This is why I love Sam's Club: every year for a few months they'll sell Maisto 1:18's for $14.

That and Reese's fast break 32-pack cases.

You car freaks geeks ever heard of the Ignition-Model brand?

I got notification via facebook that DaBoxToys will be carrying some of these 1/43 babies soon.

It's resin models for the most part, and you know what that means. Extremely sharp details and a super big price tag.

If i check their site, it looks a lot like they carry on where HPI left off.
Almost as if the old staff went on under another name.
Lots of the same cars, HPI used to make.

And they added a lot of variations with watanabe wheels and the sort.
If their quality is near HPI levels they should be very good.

Corgi recently released another 1/32 mosquito so had to get it to complete the collection so I now have all of them. Hate having holes in collections

My rear spoiler on the autoart was having some issues lol, And i should imagine back then the price was not nearing 300$, correct? ...ridiculous price hikes.

(Above)And never knew motormax made a 1:18 R34... that actually has decent quality..minus the engine and steering wheel placement.

Gonna lower it, throw on some BBS wheels and retrofit a Auto Art Engine/dashboard/seats/door panels into it, already did all the felt and crap, loss count of how many things got stuck to my fingers. Gonna be a fun project.

IIRC I paid $54 after taxes back when I got the model from a local hobby shop. I used to get a lot of AA's on sale for like $40 there all the time before they closed shop. This was probably a solid 10-15 years ago, as the shop still had UT models for sale.

....Oh my god.. 54$?? then again 10-15 years ago, yea i can see that price... but man these things skyrocketed.

What do you think of fonti? Looking at getting the DB9
Simple question but oh so difficult to answer.

What I think or resins
Under the proviso that I have no idea how easy / difficult it is to create resins to me they seem very expensive for what you get in parts compared to a die cast.

What I think of FA.

Very simple build compared to diecast. E.g. 11 screws hold together the MP4-12C. The wheels are nothing more than 1 metal rod with wheels attached on the ends held to the body with simple brackets and screws.
They don’t turn from side to side (for photo purposes that would be nice).

They don’t weigh much unless they’ve added extra ballast to the model.

Good – panel lines are crisp

Paint job is outstanding and for that alone it's worth investing in resins

Visible detailing is good

Bad – extortionate pricing on Resins (not just FA) even worse on Opening resins

No aftersales available from FA – no spare parts although someone on DX managed to secure a set of spare decals.

I have 3 FA models – the One 77, the McLaren and the purple Porsche – but all were from a private collector at reasonable prices.

Would I buy again – most likely, but not often and most likely 2nd hand, still have hiccups when I look at the prices they command but then the AA Huayra is very expensive too.

Would I buy FA new – hmmm it would have to be a really special model or touch a heartstring to pay in excess of Eur 299 for a closed model or the way more expensive open models. I really wanted the One 77 in white but the closed version goes for 299 euro so I pre-ordered the white AA instead @ Eur 170.

Open is nice but only for photos and once done it goes in to display cabinet never to be opened again.
Do I regret buying resins - no. I think the biggest mistake you could make is to try to compare die cast to resin.

Thanks

I remember reading a while ago it was something to do with the casts having to be scrap after so many molds and as resin is a pretty solid material it's harder to mold so more labour intensive.

Was it the guy in Australia you got them from? And did you get the wheels sorted.

No it was Mikum? Mixum? who sold his complete collection, most of it to WRH on marktplaats.nl and twice I heard from FA, they forwarded a mail to a colleague to see if they could find the master mould but that was 2 weeks ago so im not holding my breath anymore.

Well, I've been busy recently, well not really. I just bought them off the internet and sat on my arse a few times.

Firstly, I got a Norev Mercedes SLS in 1/18 scale. I thought about going Minichamps, but I couldn't find a coupe in the right colour, and I preferred the wheels that came on the Norev version. Turns out it's really good quality (though I suck at operating cameras so you can't really tell).

There's actual fabric inside the boot and in the footwells, and the interior looks great, very accurate details and they've even made parts of the underside properly like the engine and exhausts.

The best thing of all though, and this is really good. In the box also comes a screw driver that fits the screws perfectly for most models I have, and a glove designed for dusting off your model... Now that is simply epic, I was bloody stoked. I only paid $75 NZ for it. That's like... $60US.

Then awhile later I bought a couple of 1/43's.

Ixo Atalya Ferrari 250 California... Yeah, I don't display it in its case, it's like a desk ornament, hence the dust. I should have cleaned it with the cleaning glove the Norev SLS came with.

*Insert any of the various manufacturers who make this exact model here* Porsche 906.

Minichamps Porsche RS Spyder Team Dyson. I originally wanted one of the red mirror ones, but they weren't available, so I bought a yellow one anyway. And guess what, about a week or two after I got this, they started selling red mirror ones for the exact same price. :banghead:

And then just today, my newest batch arrived, a bit more interesting this time. I mean seriously, look at this crazy contraption!

Talbot Lago.jpg

I'd never heard of it to be honest, but it looks crazy with that bar thing over the bonnet and the 50's F1 like body and the complete disregard for any safety whatsoever. It looks epic! It's a Talbot Lago T26GS from Le Mans, 1951.

Stratos.jpg

Fairly self explanatory. I mean, if you like rally cars, The Stratos is most necessary.

Renault Alpine.jpg

Also picked up a Renault Alpine A110. I've always liked that livery of the Alpine, so when it was cheap I picked it up.

And I also got another 1/18 car, I finally got an SRT Viper GTS. :D

I was surprised by this actually, in images the panel gap in the bonnet by the headlights looked massive. But when I got the model it's barely there, it's all just in the shading. It's not noticeable in person. Though I do miss the idea of actual fabric in the interior. But it was $40, why am I complaining?
