Curses.... Now I'm eyeing the higher end stuff. $62 for this Norev Citroen GT.

That is an impressive collection. I've been wanting to take a group photo of my collection like this, but man is it annoying to move all the cars around. 👍
Isn't that the truth! Most of my Lamborghinis are in my display cabinet so moving them didn't take too long. I have just as many Porsches and Ferraris, if not more, in my collection but many of them are still in their packaging so I don't know if I can find the time to open them all for a photo shoot.

Formidable engine

Look at all the barrels and colourful nick nack tubes!

And that Porsche 917. Formidable car! I passed on that for a Norev 917K (with the fancy winglets).

Formidable post, my friend.

Well if your collection of Ferraris and Porsches is as good as those Lambos, I'd love to see them if you ever have a chance to bring them out. I collect primarily Porsches (1/18 scale), I have 25 cars and I thought that was a lot!

Ugh, I'm never gonna hear the end of my formidable puns :indiff:

I took a quick count of my collections and counted around 40 Porsches and 50 Ferraris and another 40 or so other manufacturers. I've been photographing them all year but to have them all out at once is a huge undertaking.

Here is a link to my FlickR account if you or anyone wants to check them out.

That model looks familiar (the guy with the coffee cup) What scale is he? Do you have more?

The autoART Ford LM II is a must. 👍 Especially for a Gran Turismo player.

The Japanese toy store that opened nearby - focused mostly on automotive scale models of every possible form and function you can imagine ( I have to look for the one that serves me coffee in bed  ) is doing very well and while they haven't taken over the store next to them yet, the shelves are starting to fill with all sorts of pick-and-buy goodies.

The Lewis Hamilton is probably my next purchase from here.

Some other stuff on the shelves to drool over:

is that wide arch supra 1/43?

IIRC, it was a 1:24. I will go back there soon - I have decided to get Lew's F1 ( I am into 1:43s a lot, too) and I'll check for sure.
What I have shown is about 6 square feet of merchandise - I would estimate that this store has thousands of square feet of stuff - I'm talking retail space (not floor area.)

As a former Merchandising Trainer - we look at space as a cube - the only areas free should be space for traffic; staff with dollies and ladders, customers with strollers and carts, security, and emergency personal - all other space must be used. Hang things from the ceiling, plaster them on the doors, use all wall-space, crowd the counters with impulse items - and so on. this guy who runs this store has made an art of it - he just keeps filling it up.
His front facing exterior is all glass - and the open-courtyard restaurant diners ahve a great view of his 'palace'.
I spoke to him and asked his permission to take some photos - though that bit of good manners seems redundant now ; just a 'public right'.
I'll try to get more pics - and answer your questions with facts.
The prices are great - and I don't have to wait or pay postage on top of what I can afford. So I've been sneaking in here on and off.

Is that an AutoArt-branded Mustang kit?

Yup. Andy and Doc Nessy are right. Tenacious and dogged visual detectives would have noticed the same 'A' on Maisto packages. :dopey:
So, no, it's not an AUTOart.
I am sorely tempted by the Ferrari F430 - one of my favourite cars in GT.
Really thinking of getting it so I could go over to the modelling thread and brag about how I finally got the wheels on without breaking them.
After taking six months to read the instructions.
Anyone here think it would be a good buy? It's around $40.00.
Maybe I should ask in the modelling thread.
Don't hesitate to ask more questions; the store owner is actually a ten min drive from my office and I need excuses to go talk to him.

He's a 1:18 scale figurine from the GMP Garage Mechanic set. I have all four figurines.

That guy is famous - now I remember seeing him in some blog about Dioramas.
Quite nothing like a human figure beside the car to make it come to life. I am looking around for 1:64 figurines right now - extremely hard to get - and the few that come up on the internet are always the same ones.

Who would have thought that I'll end up buying this McLaren, where in truth I am a big Porsche fan. So naturally I'd go for the 918 Spyder, right?

Well, you see, I've been aiming for the Minichamps 1:43 scale of the 918 Spyder Weissach Package. That white model with the Martini livery was indeed an eye candy. But then I watched Chris Harris' video of him reviewing the three hyper hybrids. While the ending of the video ended in a rather vague manner as to which truly won, the lap times suggested otherwise (SPOILER ALERT!), with the McLaren P1 being the fastest around the race track. But in the three-way battle, you can clearly see the McLaren dominating the other two. Hence, that car also captured my interest, but I then set that aside in my mind and pick it up if I have spare money.

With that video watched, and as well as having a trip to Hong Kong, off I go in search for the Porsche first. When I arrived, I immediately started my search, and to my disappointment, the Porsche I'm looking for was nowhere to be found, not even in the showroom itself. However, I did not let it go over my head and ruin the trip. So I set my sights next on the McLaren, having proven its worth, and being a 1:43 collector, I was pleased by the fact that AUTOart makes one in that scale too.

Then I have successfully found the new location of the AUTOart store in Hong Kong (the one in Gloucester Road, Wan Chai is closed off) now located in Causeway Bay, but still accessible via the MTR. Upon entering the store, I immediately picked this shiny, Ice Silver colored P1.

Why? This is where my review shall start. First, the silver color along with its glittery "Metalflake" effect is my favorite in terms of durability. While the other colors share the same effect, they show imperfections on the panel gaps, particularly on the yellow one. The silver is just... perfect.

The carbon fiber weave is also perfectly executed for the scale. AUTOart quality at its very best.

23410839766_16f862bef0_c.jpg

However, the biggest deal breaker is the price. AUTOart 1:43s have gotten massively more expensive. This P1 even belongs in the basic lineup of 1:43 scale models, yet is priced at around 2700 pesos (converted from 440 HKD I spent for this). I'm not sure if this is the cheapest one you can get for the scale, and if it is, it might deter me from buying 1:43s from high end brands.

Though is it worth the price? Yes it is. And this car saved me from my disappointment for the entire trip.

Well, that's quite the backstory, I can tell that the P1 is one of your all-time favorites in the hypercar classes, and that you had clear intentions of purchasing one of its scale models in HK, any one... The only real issue I see, the one you pointed out, is the price; AUTOart has boosted its quality over the past few years, but at the same time their prices shot skywards in the process of this "quality improvement". That is why I have yet to buy any AUTOart; I understand that represent some of the best scale models in the market, but they are not easy purchases to do even with a full wallet.

Nevertheless, a cool review, not usual to see that around these parts. 👍

@AOS- As hot as that R32 is, I do think the R32 looks a bit odd on 18" wheels lol
Like, they are one size too large or something.

To my surprise, while I don't normally like wheels that sit under the edge of the fender, it was this very feature that sold me on an Ignition over an Autoart. When I think about it, I like what they did here because it doesn't go too far up the fender.

But I totally get where you're coming from... except I'm a sucker for modified Japanese cars. I actually can't stand the stock look of an NA1 NSX for instance. After being spoiled on bigger wheels, thick tires and small wheels after a while loses appeal for me.

Fair enough. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.
If the car functions better IRL with that configuration, then some objectivity thrown in too. :dopey:
