Finally decided that I'm going to start a 1:18 scale custom. It's not going to be an extensive custom, just mods to the wheel arches, ride height, an interior spruce up and body respray. Won't be doing any engine mods or detailing to that extent.
The subject will be a Datsun 240Z. Bought a 'Road signature' (exactly the same as the 'Maisto' cast) version, many years ago (iirc paid £20 for it at the time). It's a bit crap but the price was low and you get what you pay for..
It did look a little like this (although mine has a different livery):
Although mine has a 'BRE' knock-off livery, it still came with the same wheels, bumpers and fog lights as the version above.
Anyway, swapped out the wheels, for some off a cheap 2nd hand acquisition ('BBurago Ferrari 348') and purchased some machine screws to fix them to the hubs. Added some bluetac to get a rough idea of what I want to do.
As can be seen, it sits really high ATM but I've worked out how I'm going to lower it. I'm going to be cutting away at all the arches and making the front ones opening a bit wider (probably 5mm), to allow for a slightly better wheel turn. Due to the offset, the front wheels barely turn at the mo.
I'd like to keep the 'BRE' style colour-way, so once all the bodywork's done, I'll mask off the areas and try and replicate it. Here's a really quick crappy photoshop of how I'd like the car to sit:
That's all I've done so far and it will probably take me an age to complete, but I'll keep this thread posted on how it's turning out.
BTW
@AOS- How's it going with your custom RX-7? Any updates as yet?
