The felt protectors I have are about 3-4mm thick. For some cars I can put this where the axles are and that will be sufficient. For cars with more ground clearance, I'm stacking two pieces. If I want to get very precise on closing the gap between the tires and display base, I mix in coins in the whole mess of things. It'll loosely look like the car's touching the base without actually doing so.

If you want to get extra fancy, maybe working with craft sticks (popsicle sticks) and painting/staining it for a more luxurious look will be something you'd like to explore?

I honestly have never had issues with flat spotting of tires, not even on my oldest models from around 2003. Since it never was a problem for me I never bothered elevating my models, other than a select few that had issues with tires reacting with finished wooden surfaces or plastic surfaces.

That's reassuring. I'm just paranoid as I tend not to move these things around ever.

Well, I do move my models around, due to not having enough space to display them all at once. Also random photo shoots mean I tend to move models a lot for that reason as well.

I highly doubt I would. Having little time and money (the former in particular) for these things, as well as my slow pace on anything that I do, means that I'll usually satisfice when it comes to accessories for displaying and choose the one that does the job without affecting the model car, so decorating craft sticks is probably a bit too much of a chore for me. I even chose my display case based on its cheapness and bought half a dozen of them, in spite of the facts that I don't really need that many and that there was a less tacky one available for a slightly higher price!

Who among you guys already have one of these? It totally looks awesome.

Pretty sure Evo III's were 4 stud

I've heard that Ignition cars are based off real-life cars, so chances are that this has had a five stud conversion. Pretty common installation off FTOs or GTOs.

^ That's also tempting.

There's also that Audi ABT RS5 that's tempting:

The front has many similarities to my car.

Also only 999pcs. What I'm liking less about GTS is the lack of painted separation lines. Also looks like solid grills.

Edit: Confirmed with a previous RS5 that it is solid grill. No thanks.

Really want a model of the new Alpine A110 Premiere Edition. Looking at both the $70 1/18 Norev and the $60 1/18 Solido (by Schuco). Anyone know about these two and which one would be better? Though another part of me is thinking of getting a 1/43 scale version instead, but I can't seem to find any.

@Skython went through this - paging him.

And in the end I didn't get one. :P

The Norev is better of the two, but personally I'd go for a Norev 1/43, because I think 1/18 is a bit pointless without opening parts. Though to be fair opening parts on modern cars tend to be quite dull, because there's not much to detail. I have a Celebration concept from Norev, it's quite nice and the 1/43 A110 should be the same casting, just with proper lights.

Unfortunately the only one I can find on eBay is nearly $50 with $40 shipping from France. Meanwhile there's Diecast Models Wholesale in the US that's selling the 1/18s for $80 including shipping.

Oh wow. Yeah, screw the 1/43. I'm personally going to wait and see if anyone makes a better one in the future, because I'd still love a 1/18 with opening parts. Because unluckily for me, a 1/18 is $150 after shipping, and the 1/43 $80-90. If I'm paying more than I should, I want to go all the way. :P

I was out in western New York with my brother over the weekend. He wanted to visit his old college to get some references and as an excuse to take a mini vacation. Visited a sort of flea market/consignment store and found this Maisto 1/18 McLaren F1.

The next day, we were struggling to think of stuff to do, but after some google searching, I came across a place called Adirondack Motorbooks & Collectibles. It was half an hour away from where we were and we managed to make it there an hour before closing. Interesting store, though the prices for diecast models were a little high. Plenty of automotive literature though. However, despite arriving an hour before closing, I ended up having a good conversation with the owner and we found ourselves talking two hours after the store was supposed to close. Unfortunately I forgot to get some more pictures of the place to share with you guys, but it's worth a visit if you're in the area.

Ended up taking home these two. Renault Clio V6 by Universal Hobbies and the TVR Speed 12 (concept) by Hot Wheels.

Now we know why the quality of Ignition's recent releases have been taken a hit... Apparently GT Spirit has a hand on their works too(along with a huge number of Kyosho releases of course)

I've been losing interest in GTS over time, but now that you revealed this, I'm losing a greater amount of interest in IG too.

My Supra arrived with scratched paint! How the hell do you market higher prices and not increase QC equally?! 🤬
