Always like to supports local artists.
Both of these are from Melbourne.

My godness are clear records trippy to watch spin.

With apposing grooves on the back and front it's a little weird when spinning. If you have any records which have deep kicks or bass lines which repeat and they catch a similar track on the reverse it certainly looks odd.

A few more LPs for the collection added yesterday. I was supposed to head to the city for drinks with my fiancées work colleagues but they were taking a long time to get in (they were doing a pub crawl called "The Otley Run") so we couldn't wait any longer and did a little shopping. Picked up these two.

Edit-

Another couple I picked up.

I'll add a disclaimer that the Autographs on the Bill Nelson record and fake. It looks like the original owner of the record bought it from a disreputable eBay seller at some point in the past who has since seen a lot of court cases in the USA over the sale of signed goods which were forged.

Edit-

A few more added...

Well I've been editing the above post all week so I avoid a double post. But needs must.

New arrivals in the last two days (a few more too but no pics yet)

The War On Drugs new LP is great and worth a listen if you like soft melodic/prog rock stuff.

This isn't out till next week end of next month but Young Turks sent it early for some reason. I picked up both a CD and LP and with delivery it was cheaper than most LPs.

Seriously amazing Jazz coming from this record.

Edit

These arrived a few days ago but I didn't get a chance to take pics. Anyway some quality 90s techno by B12.

A few more I picked up.

First is something my fiancée wanted.

Next up is an LP I've been waiting on for some time.

I wanted to say something about Matador Records. Got the new Queens of The Stone Age last week. For the most part the pressing was fine but occasionally it had a lot of swooshing surface noise. Mind you I'm listening with an Audio Technica AT440MLa cart that certainly digs down deep into the grooves and through headphones which reveal quite a lot of information. If it's a constant surface noise, that's fine. If it's here and there, in varying levels, it bugs me. I like QOTSA quite a lot and the noise is very apparent in the quiet bits. So hey, why not Email Matador and see if I could swap a new one with them. Nope, we'll just send another.

Awesome.

A few more picked up...

&

I'm slowing down on the new records and next year I'm going to be concentrating on Jazz records along with MoFi records. Will this work out and happen the way I want? Of course it won't and I'll still end up buying more stuff.

I think I've got all my pre-orders done this year.

Hold on to your hats, this is going to be a big post.

Well it’s been a while since I last visited. (Or it feels that way)

I’ve bought a few new and used records over the last few weeks.

This is my latest. It’s a 7” lathe cut (not pressed but actually cut) on acetate not vinyl and plays from the inside rather than outside. Limited to 111 copies and my copy is No. 6 with some fantastic electronic in a double A Side.

Sorry peeps but yet some more!!!

Managed to pick up a decent copy of this Vangelis LP. It’s quite a weird one to place in the many records he produced. However it’s got one of my favourite tracks “Memories In Green” which is longer than the version on the “Bladerunner” soundtrack.

The muti coloured and extended score for Alien. Released by Mondo it’s a thing of beauty and took from April to December to be issued and delivered. While it looks great and the art from Tyler Stout is great, the records are not the best pressed.

The last two shots are a liner note booklet and a screen printed handbill which was random to which you got with your order. It also has an Obi Strip which wasn’t shown here.

A truly wonderful Boxset and made with such care and love. The whole thing screams class. 3 Records and all the backs of the sleeves combine for the shot of Voyager. The booklet it’s a beaut and has some fantastic photos.

It also came with a slipmat, pin badge & goldfoil print.

There are a few more records due in this month so I’ll try and remember to post them.

That's nice @Sprite, the collection must be getting pretty impressive now. 👍

I’m trying to slow down a tad but it’s a hard habit to break. It’s a pretty healthy stash of wax but there are always more records I need to complete an artist or just because.

I may do a total headcount when I move but at this time I genuinely have no clue as to numbers. I’ve got another 2 LPs on order and an EP. Also this Sunday sees the release of a 5” single limited to 99 copies from Polytechnic Youth with a chance of getting a clear copy which there is only 1 in the world.

It's been a while since I've posted in here, and believe me my collection has grown quite a bit, but this came in today and made me want to post it in here. In the time since I last posted I built a record storage shelf and added probably 50 albums, but this one right here is something else. Not only is the music itself borderline soul touching, but the quality it is pressed on is mind blowing. I found out about these guys last week and wish it was much sooner.
20180131_164034.jpg

I played cello in middle school and i quit solely because of the teacher. There was no freedom. I wasn't allowed to do what worked for me. Watching these guys play really made me want to possibly invest time into getting back in to it, and perhaps making a song with my dad (he plays accordion). I'd have to relearn a couple things of course but i haven't necessarily forgotten a lot of stuff. Sure as heck sounds like a lot of fun. I've been jamming to music by these guys all week and when I showed him the Whole Lotta Love cover live at the Colosseum, his mouth stayed wide open the whole time. These guys really blew my mind and i've been listening to a lot of groups that are similar in concept to them. I was already a fan of Lindsey Sterling but man, these guys are really something else in my opinion. I can't wait to see them live one day.

The Polytechnic Youth 45s arrived today.

First is a French duo called Cite Lumiere and it’s a 5” lathe cut. Limited to 99 copies only.

So after listening to many many records through my current turntable I decided a bit of an upgrade wouldn't go astray.

Decided a new cartridge would be the way to go after a bit of reading. Eventually decided on an Ortofon 2m Blue.

IMG_20180202_185232.jpg

After an hour or so of installing and tweaking it I'm happy with how it's going.
Listened to 5 or so records through it now and I can without doubt hear some huge improvements over the original OM10. Highs are nicer but the mids really sing to me now.

Now I just need to stop looking at those B&W CM 8 S2's or the Focal Aria 926's :scared:.

I’ve been loving my 2M Red and I’ll wait for an upgrade myself once moved and listening room is done.

I was at a local HiFi store called Superfi in Leeds and they’re closing down and all stock must go. They have some CM 8’s in at a deep discount. I’ve yet to hear them and I’ve never had he pleasure of dealing with any pair of Focal speakers.

My dream is some ATC SCM40’s

Four more 12’s added.

2 track 12 by Clark, some excellent electronic found in this. Honey Badger Side A & Pig Side B.

It’s hard to put into words just how good this EP is. Side features Marcel Dettmann & Silent Servant with a collaboration track. Side B features 3 Pye Corner Audio tracks. Seriously great synth.

Two LPs by Berlin based synth master Helena Hauff. If you like dark and disturbing synth then this is it. The top one is a little tame compared to her more matured works. She’s up there with the IDM greats.

Another two LPs added. So far this is 100% of this artists catalogue and so far it’s pretty good. If you like Boards Of Canada then this artist maybe you bag.

And it grows bigger and bigger...!

This time some OG pressings Of Vangelis. At £3 a pop they’re an absolute bargain.

Two new Records added. Both Jazz. Top is Collocutor’s interpretation of Black Satin by Miles Davis on the LP On The Corner. Victoria Topping smashing the sleeve design again.

036A7CE0-B85E-41CB-AC15-D4D124FE8B21.jpeg

The second is another reinterpretation album. This time is an electronic artist MAST covering works by Thelonious Monk, it’s a combination of electronic and traditional jazz instruments. Plus again the sleeve art by Tokio Aoyama is beautiful.

Another find. Picked this up from Dragnet Records. He was a local store who shut up shop due to family commitments but continued online with his own site and on Discogs.

UK 1st press from ‘87 and in excellent condition.

A few more secondhand records in.

Excellent music from Popol Vuh if your not familiar then you owe it to yourself to go hunt their music down and also the solo stuff by Florian Fricke.

3AD37DF3-4197-4507-A8E3-588D96192E2F.jpeg

I also bagged this excellent Japanese pressings Of Alto Giant. Obi and insert fully intact and the record looks un-played. For a record put on shelves in 1977 this is immaculate.

FA17BBFA-E928-42FA-AFF2-2F40F4251D8A.jpeg

Last pick up is a record I’ve loved for a long time but not owned as a record. This is a repress but is an older one and using a stamper a little older still. Also this version was pressed at the infamous RTI plant. This was actually still sealed (until I got my grubby hands on it).
