Things have been kind of slow with pre-orders, but this week a handful came in.

Anthrax - Persistence of Time 30th Anniversary Edition
Haken - Virus
Morse/Portnoy/George - Cov3r to Cov3r
L.A. Witch - Play With Fire
Fantastic Negrito - Have You Lost Your Mind Yet?
Billy Joel - The Stranger (not a pre-order, I just wanted this album in my collection)

I also had to order another bundle of outer sleeves, still haven't made my way to Ikea yet though.

Well yesterday I spend a fortune on three albums. But they were worth it.

All audiophile pressings and sound superb.

And it’s Record Store Day. Did anyone go to their local store? I did and picked up two I really wanted. There are another two but my shop didn’t get one of them and the other one sold as they only had one copy.

I picked up these two gems.

As you can see the top one is the daughter of the gent from the album below. Yes that is George Harrison from the Beatles. Also Anoushka Shankar is the half sister to Nora Jones.

Just broken the 30k high value of the collection. Also passed1300 records & CDs too! I think I have issues

Soundgarden - Superunknown
Metallica - S&M 2

My collection is a whole 252! Granted that's mostly because I sold all my CD's once I decided to get into vinyl, had I continued doing both I would probably be around 1,000 total though as I had about 600 CD's at the time I sold them and that was 5 years ago.

I think I have around 300 CDs. I still buy them as some are getting rare and becoming worth quite a bit. The last one I picked up is a good example. I paid £4 and it goes on Discogs for around £15 minimum.

The item I have which sells for the highest price is a CD collection too so I don’t think I’ll give up on the format just yet. I just spent £100 on two Johann Johannsson CD sets.

I need to buy some Soundgarden too. I remember watching them live years back when I was a kid. Really enjoyed them. They were supporting Guns N Roses along with Faith No More. Guns were horrific and got booed by the audience but the other two bands were excellent.

I had a few that had increased in value as well, nothing crazy but it made it feel like building the collection wasn't completely pointless. Really the only reason I stopped buying them and sold the ones I had was because I just didn't have the room to properly store everything back than.

Guns were horrific and got booed by the audience

Why am I not surprised?

More Jazz records from Switzerland. Ryo Fukui “Letters From Slow Boat” & “Live in New York” all half speed masters and really nice pressings. Also a shot of these two with the others from the same label by Ryo.

After yesterday’s Jazz records, another arrived today but this time it’s some excellent Synth music. Recommended for those who play D&D type games or read a lot of fantasy. Great background music for that sort of thing.

second is a white label single from Trees Speak. Only 100 pressed and its epic 60s vibe Krautrock.

Joe Bonamassa - A New Day Now. Instead of simply remastering his debut album to celebrate it's 20th anniversary he decided to completely record it.
Havok - Conformicide. They're re-releasing their first albums which have been out of print so I figured I would get this one so I'm caught up once those release (and Century Media decides to ship their latest).
Zakk Sabbath - Vertigo. Zakk Wylde has a Black Sabbath tribute band and they decided to do a full album cover of their debut. They did a very good job of staying faithful to the source material but still putting their own spin on it.
Metallica - Kill Em All & Master of Puppets. Recently I've been trying to focus more on completing my collection of artists instead of just buying random albums, first was Mastodon and now I've moved onto Metallica.

@Northstar you maybe interested in this album from Sacred Bones.

What Is This That Stands Before Me

I’ve got a copy in the post on its way. Quite an interesting take on some Sabbath Songs.

A few more records have arrived.

First is a triple LP from On The Corner Records. Packed full of jazzy electronica. Fantastic stuff

D269FE2C-4836-411B-AB67-70393D42E49E.jpeg

next is a Japanese repress of a sort after Jazz album. OG copies go for really silly money and are rare in complete and good condition.

last is a spiritual jazz album I’ve been after for a while and this is an audiophile pressing so very happy to grab this.

This weeks additions:

Metallica - ...And Justice for All. I also ordered the black album, but for some reason it was shipped in a plastic bag which offered no protection, unsurprisingly the slipcover is trashed and the vinyl itself is badly warped. Hopefully the replacement is packaged better.

Gojira - From Mars to Sirius and The Way of All Flesh. I wasn't planning on getting either of these albums, but I couldn't pass them up as neither are exactly easy to find in vinyl form stateside for a decent price.

New album arrived today. Like the other two from Library Of The Occult it’s horror synth heaven. Timothy Fife is on point with this LP.

next is a record which if you want a OG copy your going to need to fork out at least £1000 ish for a complete one. Less for ones without an Obi strip. Just check out that lineup.

Death Valley Girls - Under the Spell of Joy: This bad is label mates with another band I recently found (L.A. Witch) and quite enjoy their sound.
Black Sabbath - Paranoid Super Deluxe Edition: I usually don't go for Super Deluxe versions of albums but this one was pretty reasonable price wise.
Maggot Heart - Mercy Machine: I actually pre-ordered this some time ago but due to ordering from the band's Bandcamp page and them being located in Germany which wasn't shipping to the U.S. I only received it now.
Metallica - The Black Album (non-mangled edition!): As I said in my previous post the first time I tried ordering this album went terribly. Thankfully the second time worked out better.
Blue Oyster Cult - The Symbol Remains

3 more Metallica albums came in today. I now only have 3 albums left before my Metallica collection is up to date, after that I'm not sure what artist I will focus on apart from the fact they won't be metal.

Question for anyone that may be able to help:

I've been getting into purchasing Vinyls lately and was wondering if anyone can recommend a "budget" speaker set up? I'm not looking for anything thats going to break the bank but also not trying to get too cheap either. My player has RCA connections, but I do also have a 3.5MM adapter. Which also leads to a second question, would it be better to strictly stick to the RCA plugs to retain quality, or does that not matter? I'm all completely new to this.

just to double check, I’m guessing you need an amp too or is it just speakers?

I’ve found John Darko to be a good source of info on budget HiFi. He leans more towards digital but does play records too so has some good advice. While he has reviewed high cost HiFi he’s also an advocate for cheaper but sound conscious equipment too.

Well I'm assuming that would depend on the direction I'm going? The current set up does not have one so it must be built in. I'm open to be pointed in any direction really.

Well you could go...

1. TT > Phonostage > Amp > Speakers
2. TT > Amp (with built in Phonostage) > Speakers
3. TT > Phonostage > Active Speakers

A TT will need some form of Phonostage either as a separate box or built in. I personally use a Graham Slee Gram Amp 2 which I Paid £150 for. The Schitt Audio one is supposed to be good for the money too.

Active Speakers can be expensive but remember they also contain the amplification. One pair which get good marks are the Kef LS50 Wirless. However they are quite expensive.

An amp with a built in Phonostage can keep costs down but don’t always sound the best. It all depends on what you want to spend.

my whole system is considered a cheap system but it cost new about about £2300.

if I were buying on a budget and considering you’re in the states.

possibly Elac Debut $300 speaker with the Schitt Audio Mani Phono $130. You can then use an amp you have now. You could get something like the Marantz PM6007 and this has a Phonostage built in. Albeit a Moving Magnet one.

I use some pretty cheap Sony speakers and a simple Lepei amp, nothing that will blow anyone away but decent enough to not sound like crap. I do plan on getting a completely new setup in the next few months, but my $300 one has served me well for 5 years.

New records in this past couple of weeks.
