New records,

A new Vangelis for the ever growing discography. This time on famous Classical label Deutsche Grammophon. Second Hand of course, the sleeve clearly warn a little bit the record is fresh and lovely.

Quite a more ambient and laidback affair from the maestro.

Next is a new release from Jazz group Bad Bad Not Good. Known for their off kilter Jazzy beats etc. I’ve yet to listen to this new album but I’m assured the group are taking a different line with their music and this shakes up the norm.

Limited White pressing. The outer sleeve is going to wear badly over time due to the way the text is printed on to the PVC sleeve. I can see it rubbing off quite quickly. Also the record was sealed by the blue sticker you see, the only way in is to peel it or cut it. I decided on the latter as I didn’t want to risk getting glue and mess all over the white printed text.

Got quite a few slabs of wax in recent weeks. Been one of 'those' periods when I keep finding stuff and can't bear to not have it. However, these photos are from a fellow enthusiast on Reddit s1m_0n3. Based on these images I went straight to Subbase and blitzed my budget for the month. @Sprite thought you might appreciate it too. Link below.

Well, life has a habit of getting in the way sometimes and so it goes, this record landed over a week ago. The latest drop from Library Of The Occult. Baroque synth score goodness from Missionary Work. It’s a re-score of an old 70s UK TV film “The Ash Tree”

The second one just arrived today (about 20 minutes ago) and one I’ve been anticipating for a long time since I pre-ordered it. Arthur Russell - Another Thought. Technically a compilation, however as these are a collection of his more accessible songs it makes for a great album.

This is a reissue and eagle eyes may spot the sleeve is slightly different to the original. This is because the original photo is lost so Be With Records contacted the photographer and got permission to use another from the same shoot. It also had Arthur’s partners liner notes from the original CD and lyrics on an insert. Overall it’s a brilliant record.

New additions. They’ve been on order for a little while.

First is the new double LP from Trees Speak.

I also pre-ordered the vinyl version of Tool's Fear Inoculum because I have no self control.

What’s up guys! Went to a local antique store this morning that I had never been to and surprisingly, I found more than expected! :dopey: Was browsing around and eventually found a box full of records and found this:

And here's the back.

Although I only know 4 of the artists on there and haven't heard of the rest. Either way, that's 25 new songs I didn't have before and it was only $3 and they were offering a 25% discount, so why the heck not?! :D

And later on, I spotted this:

Got quite a kick listening to my mother's records from Kenny Rogers during quarantine back in 2020 and lately, I've wanted to listen to him again. So it was natural I would take interest in this one, especially since it was only $1 and the aforementioned discount applied to this as well.

Haven't listened to either yet, but I am going to eventually. I really need to get a record player that I can use to digitize all the ones I have at my house.

Howdy guys! Got another one today! This one is from a little-known rap group known as The Crime Family who is native to my home state. This one is pretty special to me because not only have I been wanting to get my hands on it for a while now and only recently found it, but theirs an interesting backstory behind why I care so much about it too.

It goes back to 2010, I can remember my cousin used to live near me at the time and he let me borrow his old MP3 player so I could copy the songs from it. (ironically around this time of the year) Had quite a few interesting things on it, but the song "Carolina's My Home" by this group caught my attention because I had never heard of it before until then and I found it interesting since it was talking about my home state. Eventually, the song grew on me a bit and I began to like it more, especially given its obscurity. Although I did go a long time without listening to it again after purging many songs from my music library in 2011, I recently recovered that old file from our old desktop PC before it died and have become reacquainted with it once again despite my distaste for this style of music. As a result, it encouraged me to track down a physical copy of the song, which eventually led me to finding this.

And here it is!

Not only do I now have the aforementioned song on hand, but it even has an instrumental of it as well, which is great! Even better, the song "Dreamlover" is yet another one I've never heard before, and curiously, I can't find any other way of listening to it, not even on one of the band members' Soundcloud.

While it’s in good condition and I am undoubtedly happy to have this record, this story doesn't exactly have a happy ending, unfortunately. :indiff: For whatever reason, upon playing the record, it’s skipping constantly at a fairly consistent rate and I am not 100% sure why, but I have a strong feeling my cheap record player simply can’t play it correctly.

I’ll have a detailed post explaining the problem later and hopefully y’all can help me determine the cause for this.

So where my mom works, they apparently were giving away some stuff they no longer had a use for on Thursday and this was something she got because she knew I'd want it. So now it's mine! :D

That slot below the handle has the cord for it, so I plugged it in to test it and it works! :) Seems to work better than that cheap one I have in my basement and even has more settings than it.

Fair question. I’ve put more than half my life into record players. Probably half my net worth is in record players and cartridges and records. What happens after the new toy syndrome wears off, and you either still care or not, comes down to, constant speed, and simplicity. Heavy, or light, but simple. And sadly, that means sort of expensive.

If what you have makes you happy then keep going. 👍

I get where you're coming from, this can applied to just about any hobby. Being in the Nerf hobby for years has certainly changed my perspective on some of the products I used to think were good. Nowadays I can look at a blaster and know what to expect without even using it in most cases.

Well, it seems to play records better than the cheap one I got at Aldi years ago and while I want to get a decent one someday, this is about the best I can do for the time being.

Well that’s the main thing really with any form of physical media.

You get somthing, it’s better than the last and you enjoy it. Eventually the itch and funds allow an upgrade of some kind and that then sounds/looks better.

And round & round you go, to the point of diminishing returns.
