With qualifying out of the way, things are looking pretty close here at Fuji. Seeing as the standings are changing after every round is this the track where someone will get on a championship run?

Please don't discuss total race times or lap times. You may discuss stategies if you wish though.

General Information and Regulations

All rules, regulations, car specifications, and races are controlled by GTPLMS sanctioning body, GTMSA. Any and all questions should be directed to GTMSA officials (ABud or oldmodelt) and officials will do their best to answer in a timely and accurate manner.

All drivers must run at the specified weights and horsepower settings provided by GTMSA for each round. Horsepower and/or weight settings are adjusted for competitive reasons each round based on finishing positions from previous rounds.

IMPORTANT
For this season the track is defined as the area between the parallel white/yellow lines (see image below). This means that rumble strips no longer count as track.

Wow, that Audi LMP car is a whole-lot of fun with hard tires. Had to try it but I am making too many mistakes to make them pay off.

LMP run done. Far from perfect. Did while I was dead tired. 3 hours of sleep the night before. Big coffee didn't help much. Improved over last year but left a lot on the track.

ran the race in my BMW in LMP. I smoked the competition, finishing a full lap ahead of everyone thanks to a 13 lap pit window. (probably could have got 14laps without much trouble, but decided against it.

Only one off at the beginning of the race. Was trying to stay out of the back of the other cars going into the chicane and ended up over shooting it and had to cut the corner. I'll accept a penalty if Abud sees fit. I thought about slowin' down and waiting for the others, but I was happy to just be out in front of them.

I am going to suggest to Abud that your penalty should be spinning your tires for 15 seconds on wet grass while screaming "GO GO GO" ! Wait.. you already did that...LOL

I'll let you off that one! Not done either of my races yet, working today again too :( May only do LMP unless time allows.

thanks, abud. :)

EDIT: All times submitted. And, for the first time, I finished first in all my races. The Pagani race was pretty fun, as I was fightin' with the Mercedes CLK-GTR for the lead throughout the race, but he pitted last. :P

Interesting to note that I race the exact same cars in GT1 and GTS. The Pagani driver just switches places with me for the GTS race.

But, let's see...I pitted every 13 laps with the BMW on Hard tires, every 9 laps with the Panoz on hard tires and every 10 laps with the Pagani except for the last stint where I stayed out an extra lap to ensure I finished first. :P

All-in-all, a good race...on to time trails for the CTC

I finished LMP a couple of days ago and GTS last night. When I did my LMP race I was having difficulty with the 4-3 downshift. It's a bit strange but it only happens in the Audi and in that one situation but it happened several times. I tried a one-stop run and ran out of fuel with 1/2 lap to go. (I have wondered, first time for that also)

In GTS I noticed as I picked up speed on the track that the front tires began to wear fasten than the rear so I ran a mixed set and was happy with the result.

good luck fellow competitors.

as tight as you and East are for the lead, it would be a shame to miss this event.

Time submitted.

Did the GT1 tire testing at Sarthe last night. Have the LMP's from last year. RL gets busy soon.

Time submitted.
Very frustrading could not do another run, kept getting the Red ring :grumpy:
Finally got to cleaning it but now is too late to re run.

Too little time left to race as usual , skipping this round.

I only just got around to completing my race, and although I wasn't very happy with my driving or my strategy, I didn't have enough time to redo it. I gambled that hard tires would be the best option, but their lifespan (seven laps) wasn't quite right for the number of laps in the race and I ended up finishing the race on two sets of medium tires, which ended up being much faster, so I wish that I had just started on them. At least it was fairly clean, although I did make AI contact and run into the grass once or twice each. I kind of expected the race to be more fun, but the Panoz just didn't feel very good on this track. At least it was short.

yeah. The good thing about Fuji is that it's nice and wide so it can accommodate at least three wide racing and occasionally four or five wide racing down the straight.

I was wondering if any of the other Audi R8 drivers experienced some shaking of the steering wheel as the car went down the front straight as the car went over 200 MPH during the Fuji round. When that happened to me, I kept a firm grip on the wheel to keep the car going straight.

Yeah, that's called Lateral Terminal Velocity. It's a cool feature built into the wheel, but essentially, when the car shakes like that, it's reached it's reached the maximum velocity the body of the car can actually withstand. In a real race, if that happened, the car would essentially tear itself apart because the friction of the air is so great. This is why cars like the Bugatti Veyron are regulated. (Yes, the Veyron is regulated...it 252mph. It can actually break 300mph, but not safely...or in one piece)

This was probably the reason for the Mercedes CLK-GTR's infamous flips. Because if you go past the LTV of the car, then the air pressure will soon overcome the drag and you'll take off.

If the shaking's too much, you could always dial down the top speed. The SRT10 Viper and the GTS also have this issue when full tuned...of course when they do it, they're hitting 240mph...a little unnerving at that speed.

ya, I went 165 in a Buick on the way from LA to Vegas in the 70's. It shook a bit. We just thought the tires were falling apart!

I ended up with a quite enjoyable race in my Nissan R390 GT1.

By the end I had a decent lead over my only competition, the Mazda 787B. I may have lapped everyone one else. At least at Fuji, the AI can handle the track, so they do not spend much time driving off the track into the sand like at Suzuka, Laguna Seca, or Apricot Hill. I had no near misses, unlike in the previous races.

Turn 3 (the first sharp left hander) was always interesting. I found that it was not safe to cut the corner. If I put two of the Nissan's left-side wheels too far off the track, and on the rumble strip, I was getting major wheelspin, even in third gear! Even if the two right-side wheels were fully on the track. I bet I could induce a 360 if I tried! So I basically ended up coasting thru this turn to be safe!

I also lose time going thru the turn seven chicane. I have not yet learned how to drive thru this chicane at high-speed, so I always slow down more than necessary to make the turn completely clean.

I also lose time going thru turn one, since I generally start braking earlier than is really necessary. I guess I just don't want to run off into the sand, so I am generally too conservative in my approach to this turn.

Respectfully,
GTsail

My hurried effort definitely shows through. The track also really seems to punish understeer and wheelspin to a greater extent than I expected, and the Panoz, of course, quite strongly exhibits both of those characteristics. Nevertheless, congratulations to both CAMikaze and GTsail, and what a close finish between you two!

Thanks. :D

The hard part in the GT1 race was trying not to go full throttle into the final turn it seems as though the CLK-GTR has a bit of a tendency to be 'loose' or not turning in. Maybe downforce - or lack thereof - in the front was another major factor in why the real-life CLK-GTR's flipped over at Le Mans back then.

Great race CAMikaze!

You must have nipped me at the line!

I guess you didn't hear the radio transmission that all Mercedes race cars needed to save fuel!

I had the same issue that you mention going thru the final turn before the long straight in my Nissan R390. I had to feather the throttle a little depending upon the color of my tires and the fuel load. I would say it was due to a slight lack of front-end downforce. I wouldn't think we should be getting this much under-steer in a mid-engine race car, but we do.

This was not necessary in my GTS Dodge Viper. I normally could go full-throttle thru the final turn.

Nice racing everyone!

Something jogged my memory about this GT1 conversation. So I did a little checking. From the GTMSA, GTPLMS#4 thread , post #41 by KOW.

I think that's precisely the reason why the class didn't take off like the others did; Your dealing with near-LMP power levels with equal to LESS-than-GTS levels of downforce...In a car that (No matter which one you picked) is harder to drive and much, MUCH less forgiving than almost anything out there.

What a difference a year makes.

Unlike my initial reaction to my LMP race, I was/am very pleased with my GT1 run. Normally I run a 5 lap warmup then the race. This time I just jumped in sans warmup to see and kept going from there. One of those unfortunately rare and very good races without any mistakes and just one slight 1-2 secs off. Also because I burn tyres less I was able to go the whole race on RS's.

Congrats to the podium guys. Next race GTsail290, hold that sneeze until after the race or in a pit.
