GTPLMS S2 Round 3 Qualifying - Bridgestone Streets of New York *RESULTS POSTED*

The AI are such a pain around here.
I just saw the biggest crash ive ever seen on gt4.
It was down the start finish straight and the Nissan GT-R was drafting the Ford GT spec II. It pulled out to overtake, and drove straight into the wall that sticks out on the right near the finish line. It then skidded across and rammed the Ford into the barriers on the otherside of the track. Then the 350Z and the Zonda who were both following closely, slammed into the GT-R.
Leaving me to take some serious evasive action.

I would LOVE to see the video of that...anything that gives the AI it's just desserts!.

Chris is pretty much on the ball where that's concerned.
If he's gonna be late, he tells us in advance!
👍 👍

Neil

which reminds me, results might be a bit late this week...i'm going to be out of town sunday. I thought about making the deadline Sunday, but I might just cut a different qualifying session short in the future...no worries, you'll have 7 full days to complete the race.

@Neil - No problems w/ the track here, maybe you're just going too fast. well, maybe not that. But NY is a particularly difficult track to begin with, as the brake markers are non-existant here, you have to rely on scenery. My luck is that the shadows don't move in GT4, so I use them on 75% of the corners. the hardest braking point I have is the 90 degree right after the carosel (which isn't my favorite part of the track either), turn 7. And yes, i do realize that i labeled the corners in the wrong direction, i'm going to live with it.
But I digress, anyway, this turn is my hardest because the only brake point I found were the tents on the left side...there are some breaks in the tents you can use. Problem is I have to take my eyes off the road, either I plow into the corner, a car, or i brake WAY too early. idears?

It takes about 40 odd laps to get used to the visual differences on this track .. i'm relying on the paint , white and yellow on the road surface for my braking markers , though for some corners instinct will do { after 140+ laps }
Initially Del was too wary of hitting the walls coming into the corners , so gave them too much space .. i'm now taking them a lot earlier than at 1st and using the paint as a guide to proper entry . 'Engine' braking too .

The corner after the 'carosel' is the easiest on the track ! ... tents ? what tents ? .. never noticed them .. Dels eyes are glued to the road .. if Christina Aquilera and her five identical sisters were standing somewhere .. naked .. i wouldn't notice :guilty: though i'd probably reverse back if the news came from my pitt crew :)

For several years I never paid any attention to the blinking gear light for braking, but recently have found it quite useful. It's not always perfect, like some corners I'll count quickly to two or three before braking once the light starts flashing, and some corners you'd better hit the brakes the moment it starts flashing, but it can be a helpful tool once you figure it out for each track and car.

Hey Chris,
as for braking points in this track, for me at least, I found a rythum and gearing in JGTC. Picking my turn points using one eye, while tracking my path to it with the other. (old sniper trick) then shifting my focus to my entry in the corner while feeling the weight of the car and the tires take the corner. It's the same thing going in either direction. Use the buildings, the corner of them where they define the upcoming corner, a spot on the wall coming thru the S's. Also, I find that each class of car requires and adjustment. The GT 3 class goes in much deeper than the 4, so on up the ladder. You're running what ? 4 classes personaly ? Each one the horsepower goes up and the braking distances increase to compensate for the added speed.

just my .02 worth there buddy

p.s. any thought as to my admission to the series ?
If not, I'm cool to run as a ghost :)
Just miss being around the board and pushing the tin around

Submitted my final time for the week. .116 away from a HUGE barrier I'd love to crack...D'OH! Laters!

Jerome

Hey,oldphart!
Welcome back,mate!

Time submitted.I cracked the time limit, what I thought possible for me and my car,so I am happy with my result.I like NY much more in this direction.👍

Hey GTX,I was in the hospital on our shared birthday, so Happy Belated Birthday young man!!!

Oh yeah, you're in. I've been under the weather the last 2 days, so have been neglecting GT4. I'm better today and should have everything up and running.

For now, run the CUSCO at standard stats 285(-8) @ 1100kg (0)

Still not really touched this, been busy today and will be again tomorrow till the evening.
Only done some gearingtesting and general siting laps.:guilty:

Hopefully all my woe's with the track's visability will be cured by then, but if not I'll just have to struggle on over the weekend and do the best I can.

It's frustrating, this direction here and Hong Kong in general, are the only tracks I have these problems at.:indiff:

Expect a good showing in the race proper tho!

Neil

Oh and Laszlo, mate!

Go to the driver's snug for my comments on the match.

I have to agree on the viz probs at NY and Hong Kong. I think Poly went a little overboard with the scenery and it just makes things too busy. That's why I love Fuji, no extraneous crap, just a ribbon of asphalt (tarmacadam :sly: ).

God I couldn't agree more man, well said 👍

Only just starting to run races proper - Now!

Been busy as hell for the last three days.
Today, the misses decided that we HAD to completely spring clean the bedroom/office! Meaning shifting every piece of furniture, completely dismantling my work/play-station in the process.
Mind you it needed it (the work-station that is) coz over the last year the wiring had turned into a complete rat's nest!

How does it do that?

You connect everything up, the wiring's nice and neat, all un-tangled etc........
Leave it for a few months......
And every single cable is entangled with at least 3-4 other's, in a total bird's nest!

How?

It must be the cable fairies!

They sneak in, in the middle of the night (drugging the dogs, so they don't bark) and start playing may-poles with the cables, just making sure that the plugs end up in the right places before they leave!

Hmm?

Neil

I know what you mean Neil 👍

When we moved it took me about 2 hours just to set up the tv,dvd,ps2,vcr,dvr,receiver and the 7 speaker surround sound. Then to find out the cabinet doesn't breath right and the receiver overheats the rest of the equipment :ouch: had to pull it out and move it and all the wiring that goes with it :grumpy: as everything goes though the damn thing !

I beat the wire fairies by using ty-wraps on the wires. Makes a nice neat coil and they stay that way until I cut them off :)

Worst yet. I don't even watch the bloody thing in there ! as I've got my set-up in my room with my "36 Wega :sly:

Tried the race a few times in the Subaru. Man, after running the JGTC with it's 500hp, it's like being in a golf cart ! But I'm shaving seconds off 👍 still not where I think the time should be, but I never did qualify well :yuck:

At least you managed it JR!

I can't seem to get past L3 without either the Merc running me into the wall in the first corner (Penalty), or the Merc running me into the wall turn 3 (penalty), or the merc running me into the wall final turn (penalty)

Not gonna be able to submit anything at all!:(
I refuse to submit a race with ANY kind of penalty in it, matter of principle.
Really bummed out!:grumpy:

Neil

👍 couldn't agree with you more mate ! I'm the same way - No Bloody Penalties ! :dopey:

I ran the race at +10, which translated into a 200pt race :(
Was going to try and see if I could get some drafting help with a lower setting, just RL wasn't working that way...sigh

Wanted to get a feel for what the Subaru wants, and with the AI on RS's, off they went like a bunch of scaled rabbits :(

Just finished watching the bikes, drinking copious amounts of Guinness and Murphy's...

Got a head 'size of an elephant' moment going on, and still haven't done quali for the LMS!👎

Neil

Hmmm, maybe Guinness isn't "Good for you" after all! And all this time I believed 'em--now I wonder if there's really a loaf of bread in the bottle either? :odd:

Chris did say he was gonna be late with the results earlier in the thread.

Neil

Anyone know where the entrance to the pit's is?

Done a few 10 lap tyre tests on mediums, started looking for the pits on lap 9, couldn't spot them. Then looked again on lap 10, and think I spotted a gap in the armco on the start/finish straight, but I'm not sure.

Are they completely camo'd with no markings, or is the entrance elswhere?

We've never done any long races here before (in this direction, that is), so no experience with these pits.

if your talking about the one on the right, thats not it. if your refering to the one on the left, thats the one. it'll be hard to spot since it doesn't have markings, so keep you eye on the left as you head towards the start/finish line.

Yeah, the one on the left is the one I'm thinking about!

It's gonna be a hard job to hit it at full tilt, without getting it wrong.

Thanks for the pointer!
(Hey, even us old-timer's don't know absolutely everything you know:sly: )

Off to pool, for a few bank holiday Guinnesses, or is that Guinnei? :)

Neil

no problem, though I wouldn't recommend full tilt as hard as that is unless you want to join the AI:sly:

The pit entrance is on the left hand side prior to the start finish line .. and the yellow painted lines will be your 'pit entrance marker' .. ive tried entry at full speed , using the paint as a guide .. if you hug the left armco too much you'll slam into the corner post at the pit entry .. but pit entry is possible at full speed :nervous:

took Neils idea and "ran" with it 👍
a little tyre testing, and trying to find the damn pit !
working on taking it flat out :dopey:
not worried about the tyres, they seem to be holding up pretty well for around 14 laps or so :) hehehe
