Hi I'm a recently displaced Turtle Racer. I was looking for a place to race and saw your thread. So I just show up on a Tuesday or Saturday?

^I guess it depends on why you were displaced? There hasn't been much activity here lately but I might be on this evening for some racing, feel free to join.

Over the past few weeks I've had at most a handful of clean shuffle races and lot's of dirty driving in 'clean' rooms. So, I think I'm done with GT5, see you guys in GT7/P-cars or whatever decent sims to come out on next-gen consoles.

Same here. Rooms are awful... This guy tried blocking me but he ended up pit'in himself... :\ Why not GT6?

Been nice racing with ya.

I'll be playing GT6 but it does seem that GT5 is pretty much done. The few times I've opened a room recently they stay mostly empty, can't even get anybody from here to join up. I plan on getting F1 2013 in a couple weeks to give me something fun to do until GT6, I know the handling will be lousy (and no triple screen support) but racing the 80's and 90's F1 cars will be fun enough to overlook those things for a couple months.

Thanks I'll try to join you. I left TRL for personal reasons that I'd rather not discuss but if it helps lay your concerns to rest I was asked to stay.

A lot of people have slowly disappeared from GT5. I hadn't done any racing since the last ORCA series until Owens' Stamina series came round. If it weren't for the fact that he organised it, and it fell on a midweek evening I would likely not be doing much with GT5 either. I also wanted to step out of my comfort zone(sprint races) and try to expand my experience with some longer enduros.

All the rooms are dirty. Seriously. Public, private, practice, leagues; they all have the potential to have one or more clowns on track. I don't even bother racing with people I don't know personally or through past leagues I've run with. I don't tolerate poor behaviour on track or lagging rooms, and I really prefer spec racing; so I have very few options these days. I have been getting most of my driving in practice rooms for other leagues and the still alive and well Nurburgring free runs. Even then I still can't avoid the riffraff entirely, and that's what the exit button is for.

I wish it wasn't so, but most of the people I used to race with aren't around here any longer.

I'm really hoping we can build some kind of organized league system in GT6 to easier attract and keep the kind of people we want to race with. It would be so much easier if we had a private group of 100-200 good quality drivers signing up for various events and series all from one central location with multiple RD's running their own series and catering to the varied interests of the group.

Although I think there will be some momentum early on, I fear GT6 may devolve quickly into what GT5 is now, a sordid mess of rooms with little quality control, mostly on RS tires. If things like a ranking system, driver rating system and better filters for lobbies are not in the mix, it's almost inevitable.

I think that, for the most part; we already know the people we want to race with. I don't see that changing much with GT6. Putting together the right series consists of the right combination of cars and tracks, with proper rules and enforcement, and making those people we want aware. I feel that will remain true regardless of the software, although the software may help with the awareness factor.

The community is largely established with these past few years of GT5 online. There are certain hosts or organisers(Brandon included) that are known well enough that if they put together a proper race people will be there, just because. Keeping those people coming back after the first race or two largely depends on the enthusiasm for the car/track combination and the names on the entry list. Most 'good' series can open to a fair sized field for the debut race, and those people are already willing to race with the given rules and layout. Keeping them there isn't a matter of format as much as it is maintaining interest. I think if someone ran even a simple series with spec triplets(or something similar) they might be able to keep a solid field for quite a while. There is a reason the group was large with the Alfa(and the Cap Cup before my time here), and I don't think that reason has changed.

I believe the new in game league feature is going to be a great help to the organizer as it should be. Creating. organizing and maintaining a league in GT5 is a huge chore. If everything gets recorded by the software and then organized by the server that would take 90% of the current work load off the organizers and they could all go back to having a life LOL. Honestly I feel sorry for them on GT5.

The lack of points, consistent format, and end of run for the game resulted in low turn out.

I think ORCA has enough interested. I also think it would be a good thing to bring back some tuning with GT6. Maybe we get lucky and can do semi spec. Marcus and I discussed some hopes for that. Not counting on PD to bring us the ability to lock certain parts of tuning or even allow one shared tune. I'll be following and looking forward to getting the group together for another dose in GT6.

Johnny,

Your post truly describes what is going on with the SNAIL group. They have a huge member base and something going every night sans Friday. Brandon you could and know Zero would welcome you to bring your expertise in series organization over and start something there. Utilize our current ORCA racer base and theirs. Be a packed field I'm sure. Something mid evening like before and Saturday afternoon are needed over there. :)

It's a good group with lot's of good policies in place but I very much doubt that something similar could be re-created for a weeknight schedule.

I have been getting most of my driving in...the still alive and well Nurburgring free runs.

This is probably what my GT5 attention will turn to. I don't know the Ring nearly as well as I should and it's a good place to spend my remaining days on the game. It seems like that track always attracts people to a room too so it should be easier to get a grid together. The spec & shuffle model can still be used, just stay at the Nord or the GP tracks.
