Perhaps Bell and team will change a few lines of code in the madness engine and Voila, new engine.

I joke of course, but then again.......

Reiza likely sublicensed it from SMS, specifically for Automobilista 2

For a new game Straight4 would presumably have to do the same, though they’d need to go to EA now
Would Ian go back to EA to subsidise what was effectively his own engine though? I recall it didn't end well between SMS and EA after Shift 2.

And it didn't end well the second time either. :P I would love to be a fly on the wall during that negotiation process if that ever happens.

I'm pretty sure he stated in a video before EA bought them he set the engine as an asset of an external company they couldn't have control of.

Genius (Ian's Engine)
If that is true then that was a brilliant move by him

It was, he told all about it when he party-crashed some dude streaming. Those were the days. He is not afraid to engage folks directly. :)

Publishing deals for risky/niche games are kind of drying up at the minute, I'm not especially shocked or worried to hear that. It's still the mid-development engine change that's a big red flag to me, especially in this era of HD video games taking half a decade+ to make.

I'm interested to see if the new name is still "GTR" or not.

I wonder which "vr friendly" engine did they use now. I doubt they are doing their own now that late in development.

Either way glad unreals getting dumped. It sounds as if that engine is just not very good at all when it comes to vr.

Probably why no ea games are supporting psvr2

I kinda liked the news about engine change, I hope it comes to PSVR2 aswell. However the same thing worries me about when this game will release? I remember statements about 2024 (it is impossible right now I think) but i hope this game won’t end up like GTR3 did…
Maybe he believes a *** ton of people will buy the PSVR2 for PC when they release their adapter in Nov. Here's hoping, even with less features than on PS5. Didn't Kunos also say they dropped UE5 for AC Evo?

I wonder who the new publisher will be? Back to Bandai Namco maybe.

I suppose GTRevival only really worked if you know about the original GTR. Time has moved on and many new SIM racers maybe wouldn't. So possibly a new publisher would want something more catchy and headline grabbing.

I'm betting on "Project GTR" ;)

Revival could kind of work if it was all 90’s and older? But yeah probably lots of good names they could come up with.

Yes true. Although, as well as having the older cars, moving away from the name could open other newer options to the car list for them which might attract a different audience. It's all about sales after all. Just as long as they don't go all GT3y on us.

At first I didn't see the LMP part so I was going to say so basically you want ACC but I will amend it to say you basically want ACC with LMPs 🤣 🤣 . Personally I would be okay with that. I just mainly want to see a diverse car and track list

Yes with ac evo. Its an in house engine from what little ive read.

I think the more people move away from Unreal, the more vr we will see.
