From Wikipedia, it says the Corvette was used in the 24h of Le Mans. Plus, there are 3 Corvette racing models: C5-R, C6-R GT1 Z06, and C6-R GT2 ZR1.

I'm going to guess the C5-R, although I don't think it was a prototype.

The C5.R never was one but the Vette might be it despite the 3 vettes not being too different in body styles (GM styling ).

Random guess: Panoz Esperante GTR-1 thingy? There was a GT1 and a prototype Panoz, not sure about GT2

The Panoz Esperante GTR-1(the only one ever in GT) competed in the FIA GT1 class, namely LeMans, from about 1995 to 1998 when, due to the likes of the Toyota GT-one, the class was cancelled. A LMP car, the Panoz LMP Roadster S if I remember correctly, was built to compete while the 'youngest', the Esperante GT2 race car was in the works. The GT2 car is featured in GRID, along side the Spyker C8 and the Porsche 911 GT3.

Edit to the edit: in the book I had inspiration from (the mentioned-long-ago 1000 Racecars) it says it's a 205. As the 205 is in GT that's the correct answer. And now it's given away anyway. But the event and everything was correct so I declare you winner.
