Japan being a technological country may end up seeing guns, but they will be made from plastic.

Bullets on the other hand are another question.
I really don't see that, but even if they did, I'd be shocked if it contributed to increased gun crimes in Japan.

Not that the gun will last long due to the pressures that occur during firing.

That's progress. Tests have been done, weaknesses have been found, improvements will be made. Anyone can buy a 3D printer and anyone will be able to have access to data that will allow them to fabricate major weapon components.

I don't see how that really relates to this thread though...

Alarming incident for sure, but I also think it's more heightened awareness by the public, and also on gtplanet.

This.
Shootings like this happen everyday, somewhere in the US. The difference is most people never hear about it because the nation isn't on edge like it is now.

Why would one want a gun in Japan when you can have a kickass Samurai sword?

That said, I wonder if the dead guy in 'Bama got inspired to do this after learning about that school shooting a few days ago.

Yet not, as I discovered, alcohol at one particular Wal-Mart I went to. Because it was near a school, I was told. But guns, absolutely.

I don't think letting kids have access to guns is a bad thing. Let them learn how to use them, and learn to respect them.

The firing range I used to go to had kids under 10 shooting. Never had any kind of accident. I'd wager most of them respect guns more than people who've never fired. Can't rule out that some fraction might try gloating about their experience and doing something stupid though.

Surely then the same could be said for alcohol? All I knew is I wanted to buy some beer and couldn't because there was a school nearby :D

I did forget the second half of that story though: We eventually found beer at the local gas station. Naturally, it makes more sense buying alcohol there than it does with your groceries at the supermarket.

Indeed, this guys kids learn't the respecting the gun thing, he accidentally put his thumb in front of the barrel, whilst showing his kids how to shoot safely... shot his thumb off.

Yes, I think respecting your firearm's huge, and never get too comfortable around them.

I've also seen that idiot injure himself on the Doomsday Preppers, but that show also have plenty of other idiots to feature. "I've invested $20,000 in supplies, but I don't own a gun", "I've built my secret whatever here, they'll never know", then they broadcast who the person is, where they keep their stash, and where their hidden bunker's located!

Yes, that never struck me as a great idea for a program.

"This guy's prepared - we all know who to rob when the crap hits the fan!"

I agree on the alcohol bit too, but honestly out of the two, I'd be less worried about a gun shop near a school unless the only security there was a cheap glass case. I've never seen guns at Walmart, but I assume they're secure?

You can buy guns at Wal-Mart.

'Merica.

America isn't the only country where owning guns is easy, but its pretty much the only country with a weekly shooting spree.

To solve a problem you first need to know what causes the problem, trying to cure the symptoms never works. What I'm trying to say is that having easy access to guns is NOT the problem.

The ones where I have seen guns just have display models in the cases, someone has to go to the back to get the actual gun(can't say how secure they are back there as I haven't been back there).

Sort of like War on Drugs. You can ban something, people will just work around it.

Shooting an officer when confronted is not the same as going into a building with the intent to massacre people you have no history with. Let's not jump to conclusions. People shoot each other all the time, this is not the same kind of crime as the elementary school or the oregon mall.

You're hearing about these more because the media is reporting it more.

Actually prepping in my opinion is a huge waste of effort especially if the said supply is not easily mobile in case of property evacuation.👎

For some reason I feel that there will be more shootings in the coming weeks.

Last thing you want is a extreme religious person going on a shooting rampage and claiming he is doing gods work.

The intent does not really matter as they had the same outcome of intention to kill and therefore they should be treated with equal seriousness.

I find this comment extremely disrespectful to the people impacted by the Sandy Hook shootings.

Yes, people were killed. Yes it's horrible. No it's not the same thing.

You can only do that at certain Wal-Marts, I think.

Exactly, not all. Usually more so in rural areas, although older stores in urban/suburban areas will sell 'em by the outdoor supplies. So if you can't deal with the waiting period, or there's a line, just grab a couple of tent stakes and a mallet, or just go ape with a golf club.

Then again, you need a certain mental toughness just to deal with a Wal-Mart, and not go insane...

So, you are saying, that buying it at Wal-Mart is actually the psychological test?

So what is your point?
You are not from around here, sorry about that.

War on Drugs was a failed attempt by the United States to crack down on drug trades.

They banned drugs, but it was absolutely no use, because as long as there was a demand, supplies always found ways to the drug abusers.

The point I was making was that ban will not work until we can discourage the perpetrators.
