I voted #1...
Two yeas ago we went to a Taqueria, there was a guy sitting outside asking for change. We decided to get him a burrito. When we walked out we told him we have no change but we got you some food. The guy thanked us and continued to ask if we had ordered him the burrito with salsa? As he is allergic to "the way the salsa is made" he could not eat it and declined the food!
Can't always please everyone, and even if you try your best is never enough...Whatever the situation just be happy with what you did and feel proud of your good deeds even if they go unnoticed and move on.

We should ALWAYS take care of our veterans.

Nope.

There is a point at which we have compensated them for service. Being in the armed forces for a few years does not entitle you to have the rest of your life paid for. We do a ridiculous amount for veterans, "veterans" referring to anyone who served in any capacity at any location for the military. Some of them dodged bullets, some of them dodged paperwork by playing solitaire.

That being said, it has yet to be established that this guy is a vet.

That being said, this isn't even about whether or not the government should supply this guy with an apartment (it shouldn't). This is about the fact that this particular guy is acting like he's homeless, begging for change, making people think he is starving on the streets, making people think he can't afford shoes or doesn't have them. He is panhandling, lying to passersby about his condition in hopes of gaining their sympathy so that he can get handouts.

Not only does he have shoes (and has been given shoes many times), but he's not starving, and HE'S NOT HOMELESS. As is the case with many many people who beg at street corners.

Then, to make matters worse, after giving this guy $5 or whatever they give him, people go back and vote to increase low-income housing, food stamps, welfare, etc. Those things get done, but for some reason it doesn't remove people from the street corners. The reason being? You gave the guy $5. You also gave him an apartment, but as long as appearing destitute on a street corner gets you to hand out money/clothing/food/etc. they will do it. But go on, keep voting to give them more. It won't stop them from making you think they "fell through the cracks".

That's how many would describe this guy right? "Fell through the cracks". No he did not, the government is taking care of him just like you would want. But as long as you keep giving him handouts, he'll keep making you think he "fell through the cracks".

If he is indeed a veteran and was willing to give his life for our country then I would much rather he got benefits then some crackhead that has more kids to get more welfare. I used to work in public housing projects so I saw what goes on there and how things are abused.

I'm just assuming he is a Veteran because he lives in Veteran Affairs housing. Where I come from you needed to serve your country and be discharged honorably to live in a place like that.

Oh, I agree with that. I would just also prefer that we didn't feel obligated to take care of veterans for the rest of their lives, because that isn't what we signed up for when they signed up.

You know who else risks their lives for our benefit? Cops ,firefighters, prison guards, lumberjacks, and crab fishermen.

I have a relative who served in the army during the second gulf war... served in Germany pushing papers... honorably discharged and eligible for a ridiculous amount of veteran assistance. We take very very good care of our veterans in this country.

The fact that this guy doesn't feel he's gotten enough handouts and is out tricking people into thinking that he's homeless and desperate is pathetic.

I voted for option 2. If he needed shoes, there's plenty of places like shelters and such to get some. I'm not saying he isn't really homeless and really doesn't have shoes, but this isn't what he should have done. Sorry if someone already said this, but I'm tired and probably should've went to bed an hour and a half ago. :)
