H gate and sequential with TH8A and PS4

There is no need to connect to a PC to change the shifter mode - the shifter plates press a button on the shifter surface.
I am not sure if you unhook the TH8A and change it from H-pattern to Sequential then hook it back up (USB) if AC will see that or if the game needs to be restarted- I have just been lazy and always used the flappy paddles for all sequential cars. Maybe I will give it a try when I get a chance.

I think I'll give it a shot too. I dislike removing the tiny screws to replace it. But I used it on the PC version of AC with the Ferrari GT3 car and loved it. Thanks spitfire. I thought you had to reconfigure the using the Thrustmaster TH8A utility when you went between seq. and H-gate.

Naw there is no need to hook it up to PC except for the following reasons (if you use on ps4):
1. Firmware update
2. Custom H plate - can calibrate for shorter or longer throws.
3. Troubleshooting

If you are on PC they have the ability to turn on Analog mode for a fancy handbrake but it is ignored on ps4.

As for the screws.. yeah no fun. I wish it was designed with a single large ring on the outside that was easy to spin off and on. I used to use it in sequential mode for pCARS for specific cars or to use in Dirt Rally. But with AC I can't be bothered to switch it back and forth. I just want to drive and race.

I had the same problem, I found the fix. I posted it on asseto forums,

So after countless attempts, I finally got it working.

I decided to update the shifter driver, and then restarted the game with the shifter in 1st gear. Long and behold it worked, also for testing purposes I disconnected the shifter and plugged it to a hub, then to the PS4 and it worked as well.

leverything else failed before this. So try it out, if your shifter isn't working.

Important note when updating your shifter.

When you download the driver and install it it will ask you to plug in the shifter. Please note that this process does NOT update the shifter. And since you don't get a short cut to desktop you have to find program under thrustmaster, same app icon you would use to update wheel.

Find it , open it. Plug in your shifter. at which point it would show up, And give you the current firmware version of you shifter, and any new firmware available for it. Update and you are done.

After, everytime you start the game, the shifter needs to be in 1st gear. Since I found this out I haven't had a problem outside of forgetting to put it in 1st gear when starting asseto

As a further comment on this: l already went through all this (in another thread on AC problems). It was making me crazy, as sometimes the shifter worked ... & sometimes it didn't. :odd:

Putting it in gear (I'm not sure if it actually has to be 1st gear) before starting the game worked ... then it didn't. :ouch:

I then tried starting up the PS4 with the shifter in gear (&, of course, plugged into the PS4 USB port) ... it still didn't work! :banghead:

I then TURNED THE PS4 COMPLETELY OFF (ie not just power-save mode) & started the PS4 up with the shifter in gear ... IT WORKED!

I can't say if this is the definitive answer, but if you're still having issues, try this!

As a confusing side-note: the clutch on my T500 was only working erratically when playing PCars. At first I assumed it was some kind of problem with the game (the game did not register the travel of the clutch pedal in the the calibrating section of PCars). Then I couldn't get it to work at all ... so I came to the conclusion that the clutch pedal unit itself was screwed. Now, with AC, with the clutch activated in the game, the car will stall in first gear if I don't use the clutch properly, but starts up OK if I feather the clutch properly. This strongly suggests that the clutch pedal IS, in fact, working. It's all very baffling ...

OK so here's another issue I just discovered.
Yesterday my shifter was working. Just an hour ago I went to play and for some reason it wasn't working.

So, I made a note as to all the stuff a had connected to my system yesterday.

Yesterday
T500 connected to console
Second port had a USB hub
Connected to the hub was
My shifter
And my button box button ( box was on)
Shifter didn't work.
Turned off the button box, reset the game shifter worked

Today I made sure the the button box was off, but this time I plugged in my headset.
Shifter didn't work. Reset game turned off headset.
Shifter worked.

Apparently when you first turn on the game only the shifter and wheel should be connected. If I have any other device on, the shifter will not work. After confirming that the shifter works, I can go ahead and plug my headset in. Keep in mind my shifter is connected via a hub. And in all the steps I had my gear in 1st

So which one is in which now?

The th8a is in the left USB(3.0?) port and the T500RS is in the right USB(2.0?) port. Also the only other thing I did differently was choosing the 2nd option of the wheel button mapping. Hope this woodoo works for others with similar issues.

TH8A worked like a charm, and all of a sudden it doesn't. Hope the update really solves this problem!

Yeah - there seems to be a quirky element to this. My current understanding is that if you turn of the PS4 completely, insert the shifter cable directly into the USB port of the PS4, put the shifter in first gear, turn the PS4 on & then the game ... it should work.
