How are you getting around the having tabs but no plate yet thing? I assume you didn't put the tabs on the old plate?

Also, I thought the tabs come pre-stuck on the new plate? You sure they didn't mess up and you're not actually getting a new plate?

I wasn't getting around, every day when I went to work I passed by my car all nice and shiny, then got in my mom's corolla with flower styled seat covers and drove off. It was PAINFUL not being able to drive my car. But of course the day after I went to the DOL and they said they couldn't do anything, the plates came. First thing I did? Took it for an hour long cruise with the tops off. Yep, she still runs :D

Took a video but wind noise is all you hear, how the heck does Top Gear do it...

Not much happened in the past month, still saving up for the dual exhaust. Couple small things:

Tinted side markers, IMO gives the car a 'cleaner' look.

Also went to a local car meet. Usual turnout is around 50 or so but this time there were at least 200+ cars there:

And then this showed up...

The blacked out side marker lights do look a lot better on your car.

Yeah wow that guy showing up at a local car meet with his Bugatti to steal the show. Looks much smaller than I visualized from the games and tv programs. Congrats on seeing that in person. I will probably never see one of those cars in person ever in my life. Did you get to meet the driver?

I thought the same. Was a bit smaller than I anticipated, but I barely got to see it due to the swarm of people around it.

That guy.

Which meet was that?

The Edmonds one. I would have let you know but I unexpectedly got off work early on Friday and my friend (in the White GTI) really wanted to go.

I talked to the driver for a little bit, apparently they were doing a drive across the US with a bunch of other hypercars.

He was actually gunna play a prank where his friend would pretend to scratch it and the driver would get in a 'fight' with him. But somehow word got to the cops and they broke it up before anything happened. Weird situation all the way around but then he would be, driving a car like that when he's barley out of his 20's...

I'm just honored that a Veyron drove by within 4 feet of my car :D

I love the gs stripes on fbodies, specifically a trans am.
I'm pretty sure I've seen that veyron on instagram, the young guy that owns it has some seriously nice cars, he goes by vgtorious.

Well finally something broke, if you can call it that. Got out from work into my car to find out I am locked out of reverse. Shift pattern on my car is as follows:

sm__1630056.jpg

I can go into all other gears just not into the reverse gate. My car has a reverse lockout module which prevents you going into reverse at speeds over 3mph, apparently that is faulty. No fuses are blown and no errors are thrown so tomorrow I'll jack it up and see if the module is getting any power to determine if it's a wiring issue.

Well it's getting 12V but it's not doing anything. Removed the reverse lockout solenoid for now so I can temporarily have reverse while I look for a replacement.

Did you check the ground? Does it have a control circuit also, is it supposed to read12v? If not the solenoid is probably shot.

No school or work today, first free day I've had in over a month, so I thought I'd put it to good use. Took it to Les Schwab for an alignment. Car felt much tighter after that. Then took it to a reputable local tuner shop for a dyno to see what numbers I'm putting down:

Pretty good numbers considering it has practically stock motor. Dat torque doe :P

Video coming soon...

Update Time :D

I've decided to focus on suspension instead of the the exhaust route. No use making more power if you can't put it to the pavement properly. Plan is to turn this car into a M3 eating canyon carver. So far I've ordered Koni adjustable shocks, Strano lowering springs and Founders strut tower brace. Once I get my taxes back I'll be getting strano hollow sway bars front & rear, weld in sub-frame connectors and a set of seriously sticky 275/40/17 Nitto NT05's on all 4 corners.

All this in preparation for the mini Top Gear special my friends and I are doing during spring break to find the best driving road in Washington

Pictures of install coming soon.

You realize we're best friends now, right? :)

And if you want help finding roads, Washington is just a state away from me. I'd be happy to help. :) Although I doubt my car could keep up with yours.

It's not that hard...

Sam Strano won multiple national SCCA events in his 4th gen Z28. Here's what he said when questioned about how good F-Bodies can handle:

I'd love to tell you that I can make a Camaro handle like a Corvetter, but I can't tell you that. We also mess with Vette's too, and they are just completely different cars. For instance, a C5 Z06 is about 400 pounds lighter, has 12% shorter gearing, IRS (and pretty damned good IRS) a lower Cg, better weight distribution largely due to the transaxle design, and more power.

If you consider all those things, it's not possible to get an f-body to be a Corvette.

That said, I'll also relate to autox results to give you an idea of just how good an f-body can be.

SCCA Solo Nationals 2006 (the last year I ran the Camaro, but plan on bringing it back out for '09).

Winner of ASP is Mike Johnson--a friend and customer in his Z06. Total time over the two courses of 99.825 seconds. I'll add now that Mike is a 3 time National Champion himself and beat me straight up in 2003 in F-stock in our Camaro's, he knows what he's doing. My total time in winning ESP was 101.229. That is a 1.404 second difference running the same courses in cars that run different classes, but have the same preparation rules (Street Prepared, or "SP" classes).

So after over a minute and a half of running, the difference was 1.4 seconds. I think it shows what a Camaro can do, especially when you consider the things I mentioned to start with. The F-body has NO single advantage over the Vette, but the results speak for themselves.

We might dip down into Oregon, our exact route is still under debate; though I doubt my car will keep up with your SVX in the gravel ;)

I have seen first gen Camaros out handle Ferraris. How much money are you willing to throw at it.

Have you talked to Sam at all about your goals? If not I'd really suggest it, he's always very helpful even if you don't buy anything. Im curious about the strut tower brace fit and finish too, the price is very tempting.

Gareth is rarely, if ever, going on gravel. Despite being a Subaru it's not made for it. He's too low. I have driven him a few miles on gravel and he handles beautifully. But Gareth is destined for show room quality interior / exterior. That's not gravel friendly.

If you're looking for a good canyon Hwy 84 east of Portland is pretty much the definition.

Yea, handling is relative to how deep your pockets go. In my case a starving college student doesn't have very deep pockets

But upgrading a few key suspension components can really change the dynamics of these cars. Can't wait to see how it feels after I get my shocks in...

We've communicated via PM on ls1tech. He's very knowledgeable and has the credentials to back up his claims. Pretty much everything I'm getting is something he suggested

As for the Founders STB, everyone I've talked to love their stuff. Unbelievable prices and quality seems up to par with the UMI and BMR stuff. I have their Panhard relocation bracket and that thing was solid. All the welds were clean and the finish was beautiful. I'll probably be getting their torque arm and LCA's in the future.
