Haha no, I might use it to make a box half stack though, all I need is 3 more computer speakers... Then again that head is so crap, it would probably make them sound worse :(

Just wondering....

i just bought a new bass. It was a good deal, and I needed one to play with, because we lost the crappy one that my band used. ESP LTD B-55. Also my very first 5 string.

Now, I have a question, and don't make fun of me. On a five string, is it like a standard bass, with one higher string, or with a lower string?

Here is our guitarist with his Fernandez Ravelle.

He also has this ESP guitar:

Here is a picture that I took and composed of our drummers' Schecter C1 Classic.

And here is a pic of the whole guitar:

We play through a B-52 full stack:

That plus another cabinet. 100 watt all tube.

And an ibanez solid state half stack:

Just a half stack.

I play through an SWR Working Pro 400 head and a Hartke 4x10 cabinet

Our vocalist also plays guitar and has a Gibson Les Paul that looks almost exactly like this one, but this isnt his.

Typically a 5 string is tuned BEADG but there are no rules. To can tune it EADGC if you like.

Very nice looking equipment, by the way.

@Samberto:
That Paul Reed Smith is beautiful. I had some guys in the studio a few weeks ago that brought in a brand new PRS that looked identical to yours, down to the inlays. It had a very warm and creamy tone. It recorded very well also. 👍

Well we play in drop c, sooo right now the top string is c. And, I had to tighten all the strings quite a bit to get it to that tuning. Which suprised me, because thats a very low tuning. Thanks for the quick response Pako!

But still, why B?

And why would it be EADGC? Why not EADGB, like a normal guitar?

Standard for 5 string is BEADG, but for dropped C I guess you could either use the B string as your low C, or do the opposite.

High "C" allows the bass player to 'stay in the box' by tuning all the stings in 5ths.

For Example, a 10 string bass tuned at 440 would be tuned as follows:

F# B E A D G C F A# D#

With the red notes being your standard tuning on a four string bass.

[edited]
Here are all the notes on that 10 string bass, with the bold notes being the open strings:
F# G G# A A# B C C# D D# E F F# G G# A A# B C C# D D# E F F# G G# A A# B C C# D D# E F F# G G# A A# B C C# D D#

My "first" guitar is a really basic second-hand acoustic and it's not of very good quality. In fact, it's broken: there's no bridge, and I believe there's some kind of fracture running the length of the neck as I'm getting some odd vibrations through it when I change chords. It's really only a trial thing to see if I like playing as I might get one for Christmas, so I won't post any pictures of it for now.

You sure? It sounds like something we have to see!

The new models don't come with that fracture? Mine unfortunately did.

I know for sure it's something that's not supposed to be there. A friend who's teaching me took the strings off and found one running from the very top of the neck (after removing the loose plastic guard) down towards the body of the guitar. He seemed to think it wouldn't normally be a problem, but the bridge of the guitar is missing, so the strings are much closer to the body of it than they should be, which makes it a problem. I can't get a photo of it as it's all been put back in place, but I suppose you get what you pay for. Mind you, it's not actuallymy guitar; I've borrowed it from my younger brother, who attempted to teach himself but didn't like it.

Sounds like mine. Both for guitar and younger brothers. Mine, however, was accidentally fractured by my overzealous friend; it did not come with it.

The fracture post I made was a joke, but it's good to see that you are aware of the problem of the crack.

Edit: Oh yes, and-

This is a stock picture of my guitar type.

I only noticed it because my C chord sounded out compared to the demo recording I was running. We thought it was turned to a dropped C (I'm not really sure what that means ...), but it was perfectly tuned and I was getting the vibrations through my thumb. I guess I won't be performing on that guitar any time soon. But I wouldn't bring it out if it were perfect; it's incredibly shabby.

So since all guitar experts are in here, it's a little off-topic although i'm planning on getting a guitar so i'll reserve this post for the picture. I'm planning on getting an Epiphone Les Paul for my first guitar do you guys think that is an OK beginners guitar? Is it too expensive for a first guitar? Also what's a good beginning amp just for using in my room, my rooms small. I figured for a first guitar that's too much but a friend told me he'd rather have a good guitar for a first one so it would last.

It depends, if you have the budget to get a good guitar I would say might as well because it would cost alot less to buy one really great guitar or intermediate than buying a couple lower end ones. I don't really have much experience with epiphones, only trying them in stores a few times but they have some decent guitars, its all what you think feels best for you, if it is a Christmas present, get your parents (or drive yourself) to take you to your local guitar centre or store and try out alot of guitars and make the decision on what is best for you.

As for amps, it depends if you want alot of versatility or only 1 or 2 channels, built-in effects etc... Vox AC..VT amps are pretty good, they have about 11 different channels and 11 different effects, I think they come in ranges from 30Watts to like 150.

Thing is I don't know what I want or what i'm looking for. I've only ever messed around making sounds with guitars at people's houses. But i've always been interested in actually learning them. I'll have $800 as a budget for guitar and amp...

I own an Epiphone, and even though it is the lower end, its still a nice guitar. I would definitely recommend getting an Epiphone Les Paul, they sound great, and are less than half the price as a Gibson, but still carry the name and quality. I have significantly played both les pauls, gibson and epiphone and there isnt too much of a difference. But, it really depends on what kind of music you want to play too. If you are into death metal or something like that, opt for an Ibanez, Schecter, ESP, or something along those lines. But, the Epiphone Les Paul is a very well rounded guitar, so even if you get that, you will still be able to crank out some seriously metal riffs. Oh I forgot, the Epiphone Les Paul shouldn't be very difficult to learn on. I always find that on the Les Paul type guitars the strings almost seem a little farther away from the fret board, but that can be alleviated by lowering the bridge.

As far as an amp goes, you can find a very loud combo amp, say two 10" speakers for $300 or $400. We used to have a line 6 one, and it sounded pretty good, and it had a lot of effects, that were fun to play with. It was really loud too. Something like this should suit your needs very well. http://www.zzounds.com/item--LINSPIII120

I don't necessarily need something that big just for my room and as a beginner do I?

Hell no you don't!

I'm currently still playing on what I began with, a Strat copy with amp which didn't even cost a 100 dollars...You don't need any expensive guitar to begin with, who knows it might just sit there in a corner...

I'm happy with what I got, I only need to get some new strings as the curent ones are beginning to sound rather dusty or old, whatever, and a capo so I don't need to use a pencil and some strings :dunce:

Go with something cheap, and if you like it and you're getting the hang of it, only then start thinking about an investment 👍

What are you talking about? That's perfect for bedroom practicing!

On the other hand, the price might be enough to discourage one from letting it sit in the corner, gathering dust.

But what if you thought you'd like it, but you discovered you totally suck at it and it turns out not to be such fun as you thought it would be ;)

Oh and, shut up! You own a Stratocaster, you know nothing about it!

j/k, I admit it, I'm a jealous Fender fanboy...

Well obviously if you are going to purchase an expensive guitar, make sure you really enjoy playing and learning and getting better, if not and you just want to mess around a bit, get a lower end. And ya D-P about the music styles, the guitar you needs to be able to perform your music styles well.

My guitars include an Alvarez model 5013 that I rewarded myself with after I finished nursing school, and an old Tiesco Del Ray Electric that one of my collegues gave me about ten years ago.

In the house, I've also got a "Hummingbird" knock off, a Cort electric, that has s Strat Shaped body, it's a set-neck, with Dual humbuckers (and a coil tap).
Oh and one of my sons plays a bass, but we don't talk about him much...:D
I'll try to get some pic up one of these days.

Everyone totally sucks at it when they first start. Having a nicer guitar than the $70 crap they sell at Wal-Mart provides motivation to push through the early pains.

Les Pauls are pretty flexible.

WANT PICTURES! Don't be a tease :P.

My first electric guitar, an Ibanez GRX20.

She's all I have. :)

Looking forward to purchasing a replacement probably sometime next year, strongly leaning towards an RG321MH.

Got my Taylor 414ce a few years ago, and she sounds beautiful. I kind of forget sometimes, but then it all comes back when I play another acoustic.

What you gon' do with that extra string boy? you already have six!

You don't see seven+ string guitars as often as you do five+ stringed basses, why is this?

Play awesome songs I never could before, & make up awesome riffs to blow your mind :sly:
