Heath Ledger... Dead.

I often wondered if he was on drugs because he seems to have gotten this, I don't know, dirty (doesn't seem like the right word) look lately.

I wonder what this does for the Batman movie.

This is a great shame, he had his whole career ahead of him. He was a brilliant actor.

My condolences to his family.

I thought they had finished filming the new Batman movie. I'm sure I saw a leaked trailer with him in it.

Yeah, his participation in the new Batman movie was completed already. A good actor, gone too soon.

That's sad, seems like he overdosed on sleeping pills. I can't imagine why he would, he didn't seem like a depressive and he was a decent actor and had a family.

Ugh, my first thought was about Batman too! So sad that he has died, leaving his kids and wife behind... The world won't be the same...

Way too young to go. Will he get the same kind of fame that James Dean got after he died? Who knows..

He dies on the 'most depressing' day of the year, according to mental health experts. Coincident only?

All that fame, fortune, talent and work and it still ain't enough? Shame.

I thought Monday was the most depressing day of the year statistically?

I don't really have any sympathy for drug addicts, especially not for infinitely wealthy actors who are drug addicts, but i guess he was young.

Actors are really not even top tier in terms of wealth. Actor wealthy is at least an order of magnitude below CEO wealthy. I wonder why CEOs keep going to work instead of ending up dead in a pool of their own vomit....

Like so many who have posted in this thread, my first concern was for myself - ie: how does this affect that Batman movie. I think my concern for Heath may have been greater if I'd been a big fan (which I might be after the Batman movie), or if I'd really followed his work etc. etc.

RIP Heath. I feel like we barely got to know you.

Oh wow.... just wow. Only yesterday Danny and I were discussing Heath Ledger and the various Joker's in the Batman universe and now this.

Tragic news. I liked how he played Sir William in A Knights Tale and was looking forward to seeing how he portrayed the Joker in Dark Knight.

R.I.P Heath Ledger

...And the cinema just got a brilliant Dark Knight poster with him on it. Damn.

Gone way too soon, R.I.P

I liked him. He wasn't the world's greatest actor, but he wasn't the worst be quite a big margin. It's really too bad that he went like this.

That is really too bad, I always remember watching A Knight's Tale on the US TBS (now Peachtree) many a saturday afternoon's. I actually liked most of his movies, however, I never saw Broke Back Mountain (thank god)

If Dark Knight is in post-production, will he still be in it as the Joker or would they refilm his parts?

He was an ok actor, at best; The Dark Night will be his pinnacle for sure. I am saddened, but only slightly.
I also thought he was an mediocre actor at best. Never really cared for any of the films he's done. But I really thought the new Batman movie was going to change that. I really did. He looked very impressive in the trailer.

Rock stars and actors probably party a lot harder than CEOs.

Agreed. May his soul rest in peace.

Hey folks, Harry here... There's a lot of rumors swirling around right now in regards to Heath and where his involvement with THE DARK KNIGHT was. I got it confirmed from a source involved in Post-Production on THE DARK KNIGHT. Heath's post work was complete. He had indeed finished it, as to not interfere with the production of the film he was doing with Gilliam. We're now working to find out what's going to happen there. The last known photo of Heath was as a clown in that film. Will Terry re-cast? What will happen? We'll try to find out for all of you. But there will be no-dubbing on Heath in THE DARK KNIGHT - his performance was finished.

Harry

Hope that answers everyone's questions. The AICN lines have lit-up with some negative postings about this news being shared on the same day as his death, but that being said, it was just as important... People were concerned.

Its a damn shame, but at least he went out with a bang with The Dark Knight. I do hope that he gets a best-actor nod for 2008. If the buzz is correct, he deserves it...

Whats really unsettling for me is he was my age. Puts life into an interesting perspective. This is exactly one GREAT reason not to use narcotics--I don't touch the stuff and this is one reason why among others. I truely feel for his family. I'm sure he had some great work ahead of him that we will never see. Who knows..?

However, I really don't want to sound callous but, play with fire and you get burned. Maybe this might make young people think about their choices in life...you can die making bad choices as evidenced by this. But I digress...

*edit*
Oh, and I was REALLY looking forward to this: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1054606/ :(

I actually thought it was a joke when I first heard, I couldn't believe it. While not an astounding actor, he was pretty good (just some bad choices of movies, really). Really thought Dark Knight would be a high point of his career; now that's basically garuanteed. I didn't really peg him as someone who would do this, either, and 28 is just too young to go. I think it's funny that some people around here assume that because they're celebrities with money, that they can't possibly have stress or issues they fight with like normal people. Not that I agree with suicide, because I don't, but celebrities have to deal with the stress of the crazed media on a regular basis.

On the topic of Dark Knight, apparently he was to have a fairly substantial role in the third film though, so this could cause a problem there.

RIP Heath.

It was just sleeping pills right?(from all what I have heard) Apparently he had real trouble sleeping lately, sounds like he overdone it.

RIP fellow Australian Heath.
