It's not always stupidity it can be desperation. In Heaths case he was an insomniac and the pills wern't getting him to sleep for more than an hour or two. If you've been suffering insomnia and haven't had a proper sleep in say a week then use your certainly not going to be thinking straight. That coupled with taking pills that are having a minimum effect could very easilly lead to an accidental overdose that is caused more out of desperation than stupidity.

But McLaren is right it is suicide either way, accidental suicide is still suicide, you still caused your own death.

That's awefull, things as disrespectful as that should be policed. It's ridiculous that they think they're right doing such things.

They are. Michigan and another state have made it illegal to picket within 400 & 500 feet of funerals. This family claims it is infringement on their right of Free Speech which is hilarious in it's self as they claim America is hated by God, yet tries to use the constitution made by American founders as their defense.

They're nothing more than a family full of hypocrisy though. If this thread was about them, I'd enjoy showing the hypocrisy of their statements against 9/11 & Islam.

It's just another form of religous extremism, unfortunately thier actions harm peoples view of religion rather than encourage them to consider it.

I'm not saying this was Ledger's case, but I do believe that sometimes the stress of the fans & the paparrazzi can be a bit much as well.
I do hear that. But I'd think you'd agree that the drugs will only make things worse. I'm not trying to judge the man or anything, but if you are counting on drugs to relieve your stress......

Here's something that really ticked me off when I read it. Those sick people, the Phelps' have said they will be picketing Ledger's funeral because he portrayed a gay man.

I hope Ledger family, friends & fans will drive these people away for good.
Gah, the Westboro Baptist Church. Spend an afternoon with them and you'll probably be convinced that there truly is a hell...

These people have taken it too far. They clearly have never known who this man really was, or even his philosophy for Brkeback Mountain ("It's just like kissing another human being". It's his job, so he did it to get on with the filming of the movie.)

Now John Gibson! Sheesh!

If he wasn't depressed then how in gods name do you overdose by accident? It's simple, you read the instructions, you stick to the instructions.

Because it wasn't working. So he tried something stronger. Most instructions are so far from lethal that you can completely ignore them without (much) consequence—he ignored them so much he accidentally offed himself.

In other news, it seems the far right has got something to say about his death:

John Gibson Mocks ‘Weirdo’ Heath Ledger’s Death: ‘He Found Out How To Quit You’

johngibson1.jpgOpening his radio show with funeral music yesterday, Fox News host John Gibson callously mocked the death of actor Heath Ledger, calling him a “weirdo” with a “serious drug problem.”

honestly. My first reaction was, "Well that's what you get for making a movie about gay cowboys", then when I saw it ALL OVER the damn TV, I was thinking "who effing cares?"

I cant stand this tabloid media.

Why would someone who's made a movie about gay cowboys deserve to die?

I don't care who you are, you're as bad as the Phelps if that's what you think.👎

You guys crack me up. It was a joke to myself. I honestly dont give to hoots about gays as long as they leave me alone. I think it's wrong, yes. But they should have the same freedoms as straight people.

I don't think any of us really saw it as a joke. And though I want to say your 2nd sentence still sounds wrong, I'm going to assume you mean it by some other way.

Obviously none of you saw it as a joke. And I have to say, if you would have put me and the phelps wackos in the same category, it would be very hard not to physically fight you in person. I signed an oath to defend the Constitution of United States, with my life if required. And I will uphold that gladly. Even if my personal feelings tell me that homosexuality is unnatural/wrong, and the phelps should be killed slowly and cruelly for what they do, the constitution protects them*, and I'll defend that with my life.

*as long as they dont violate the rights of others

I'm getting a little tired of people coming into threads like this and making stupid comments only to claim later it was a "joke". things like this shouldn't be joked about in the first place, if it was a joke in the first place. keep it to yourself
