This is for discussing the heavy weight cars in GT4.

Specifically, I would like to hear discussion regarding cars weighing over 1500KG.

Personally, I don't think 1500kg is heavy enough to be a heavy weight, 1600kg is more like the minimum in my opinion. However, to keep discussion alive and to allow the fanboy-tastic Skyline into this thread 1500kg will do just fine.

Use other cars of lighter weights as comparisons if you wish but always keep the focus on the heavy cars. 👍

To kick things off I would like to mention two of my favorite cars in the game (regardless of weight).

1768KG Mercedes SLR McLaren

1710KG Aston Martin DB9

Both of those are awesome cars with amazing potential.
They are definately perfect examples of what a good heavy-weight should be. :mischievous:

The SL65 is a great car to mention in this thread.
I love the torque it produces and I love the character of the car once it's been reduced in weight (which even at stage 3 leaves it as a heavy car).

Suprisingly, I preffer the SL55 to the SL65. :odd:
The gear shifts on the 55 are so much faster that it is amazing and something you must experience to believe.

Well,
Thanks for contributing GT4_Rule.

And to think... Here I was thinking that no one cared about heavy cars. :dopey:

But Kent, "Light is Right"

Of the heavyweights, the SLR is a standout, but I dislike its gear ratios in standard form, I think it's geared for about 300mph! Vanquish is a storming car, and the M3 sneaks in there at 1570kg. Superbird is a hoot, too, as are many of the old school yank tanks. The builders' wheelbarrows shouldn't be in the game, though (IMO):yuck:

Audi S4!!!!
I love this car, pfft, i don't cae how heavy it is, this car moves.
It can go around corners just as good as a GTR, if not better.
Lower this cars waeight, slap somes R3's on it, and a small turbo, for some little power. And this car will take most other road cars on in the game.

Some more -

300C
M5
And virtually any American classic

I love driving the Chevelle, etc. They truly challenge your skill and to control the cars since they hardly turn!

Kinda of why i only do that to test there 1/4 times. Other then that, i onlt drive them for a race (if i HAVE to) or for pics...
But if i want to race them, i slap a Racing Soft on, and pray to god :D

In its stock form I ahve so many problems controlling the SLR....I tried using it for the Supercar Festival (granted, i'm not the best racer but i'd consider myself at least average) and I could only use it to win 2 races, the other 3 saw me getting frustrating and settling for 2rd or 3rd and by quite a time difference. The redeeming factor is that my black SLR has really nice black rims, and it looks really stealthy which should go nicely with the 4 black cars i'll be buying in 30 days :D.

The M5, however is a great but somewhat heavy ride. Not to mention that it looks awesome. The Lotus Carlton is a great car too, and for Ford GT is also a heavyweight IIRC.

Light is right?

I don't know about all that. ;)
In fact, that's why I started this thread... I wanted to get an honest discussion about the worth of some heavy cars in this game.

For example...
There is a little spot race in the spot race forum where the premise is "production cars, stock, N2 tires, no oil change."

Well in that thread we have all been racing and racing for a good bit of time now and guess what... Until recently the fastest car on the board was the Zonda 7.3.

Weighing in at 1250kg and having nearly 560hp, it was obvious that this car deserved the top spot on the board.
However, for the sake of testing out some new stuff, I ran a car I hadn't used in that specific challenge- the SLR.

With 1760kg and 625hp I didn't expect too much (maybe 7'30 or so). Suprisingly it ran straight down to the fastest lap time posted (7'17.605 is my current best).
I was shocked to see the SLR and all that weight go flying around the Ring so much faster than the Zonda and with so much more stability none the less (I could only manage high 7'20s in the zonda).

So right there is a perfect example of how Light isn't always right.
Heavy weight cars can be right as well.

Whatever the case, thanks for contributing everyone.
Looking forward to seeing some good posts in the near future. 👍

Tank Car :D and also Land Rover Range Stormer are heavy-weights. The Pikes Peak is a good one too (I don't know the exact weight but I supose it's more then 1600 kg :P).

and don't forget Mitsu 3000GT! weighing 1710 kg ( 1680kg for MR model ) it's surprisingly nimble and quick car.

I think a certain weight is a good thing on the Nurb to just resist the bumps and all. The zonda is just too easy to shake off the track.

My favourite would have to be the 1,800KG 1973 Jensen Healey Interceptor. I haven't gone far enough through the game to drive the better cars though. My one says its got an FR-drivetrain. To me, it feels much more like an FF car. I've never succeeded in trying to make it oversteer or spin out, no matter how hard I tried. Luckily, it doesn't oversteer that much either. That's the only real downside.

The Audi Pike's Peak quattro is lethally fast. It's 1530kg, so kind of in, kind of out of the heavyweight club, but my Bob, Pestilence, got it round Trial Mountain faster that the SLR, Jaguar XJ220 and Ford GT, and only a fraction of a second off the Tommy kaira ZZII...

Most of these have been mentioned but the Nuvolari quattro is one of my favorite road cars, the M5 is my #4 favorite car, the DB9 is pretty sweet, the Charger Super Bee is so much fun to dirve

Thats all that I can think of :indiff:

He calls his "Bob" Pestilence... figures!

And @Kent, I agree with Niels, a certain amount of weight is good on the Nurb, to ensure high-speed stability. Just got done doing a fully modified comparison between a Viper and an SL65 on the ring, and the big Merc does itself proud.

As for Heavyweights, hands down, the M5 "feels" the most natural. Not as much outright grip or pace as the SLR, but it's got the right balance of grip and poise.

The Jaguar S-Type R is another cool heavyweight.

And who can discount the Dodge Ram? AWD and more inertia than the Rock of Gibraltar? Slow mo-fo and clumsy handler, even fully modified, but a heap of giggles.

Careful... :P
If you want, I could ballast one of my R33s to 1600kg and still come close to 0.5bhp/kg :sly:

I've never driven the SLR (almost called it the 'Hairdryer' there on account of it's engine whine rather than engine note, shame PD screwed that up - In real life, this car is glorious to hear, I've been passed by one and it sounds like a Spitfire flying at twenty feet!), largely because I'm too lazy to buy one, and my experience in Mission 34 put me off it a bit: although I completed it after three tries, the handling was evil throughout, and I know the car in the Mission is badly messed with but even so.
I didn't want to buy the car after that. So actually, despite writing all that, I have no opinion on the SLR
Except for saying that I beat it in the Legends of the Silver Arrow in an SL350 that had had a Racing Chip and Racing Exhaust, but was otherwise stock. Much cheaper!

As for the DB9, I bought one to do the Aston cup - and was awarded with another, nnnnnngh! :ouch:
But it's actually very nice to drive, it oversteers when pushed but is neutral when you want it to be, like a sports/GT car should be, and the noise is very Aston :dopey:
It's geared quite suitably, but possibly the only problem I had with it was the way it got to it's gears, the flappy-paddle automatic doesn't work as well in the game as it perhaps should, I was waiting some time to get out of first gear.

(A test I usually do with slow gearboxes, when taking them up out of first and waiting for second to engage, if I can flick the number on the HUD up to 3rd and back to 2nd before it the engine re-engages at all, then it's too slow! And I can do that in the DB9, just about. Nothing that a semi-racing flywheel and twin clutch won't sort, though.)

Despite my obvious (righteous :D) Skyline bias, I'm not a huge fan of heavy cars on the whole, I think being able to use so much less power so much more effectively makes the car better to drive - like, say, an S2000.

But, I digress (as usual :P), this thread isn't for saying whether you like heavy cars and why, so I will say that you can have a lot of fun intertia drifting a heavy car, with more control than a lightweight too.
I've yet to drive an M5 in GT Mode, but I have heard nothing but good about it - I'll have to give it a go.

I would say that's my $0.02, but it's more like my life legacy (so £5  )

The 3000GT has a very high top speed, considering its weight. Tuned properly it goes fast.

But I do like the DB9. It is very nice.

The Mercedes Benz SL's are good. I really prefer the SL500 and SL55 more than that of the SL600 and SL65.

Heavy cars aren't all that bad. They are still good.

I LOOOOOVE heavyweights, 'specially the V8 Supercar-class sedans (Included non-Austrailian cars,)) and American Muscle. It's fun to just outrun guys in your big, heavy sedan.
