I really like what the helmet cam features present in this game.

Just out of curiosity and will to learn,

-Anyone of you uses the helmet cam and its features?
-Do you feel it makes you faster? Does it actually make you go faster?
-Do you have any motion sickness from it?
-What settings (motion/movement) you use in the helmet cam?
-Do you have any tips for it?

I know for sure that it's immersive and fun but I feel it makes me drive worse although I really want to use it and enjoy it!

I feel it's like VR in 2D! A really great neat feature!

Tonight I'm messing with the settings. But even with basic settings the movement into the corner feels more 'real' having played flightsims with TrackIR the non helmet cam is to static.

Now on the faster slower. I haven't checked if it made me faster. But I feel it made me more consistent. The problem is... It takes some getting used to. At first it feels odd like youbdon't know how to lock your turn. But once that's over it just feels better.

On the motionsickness: well this is complicated and very personal but motionsickness comes from the the disconnection between your physical body and the virtual driver. So diffrent setting will have diffrent effect on people. Standard doesn't give me motion sickness.

Last I have a friend who uses helmet to apex 100 percent as his 'brakemarker'.
Never tried this so...

Tl:dr
Yes I advice helmetview if only for immersion.

Yup love helmet cam :) In fact PCARS 2 is the first game where i feel comfortable driving in interior view thanks to helmet cam

My settings for helmet cam

Helmet Camera 93
Show Helmet NO
Helmet Field Of View YES
Helmet Look to Apex 88
Helmet Leaning 88
Camera Leaning 88
World Movement 80

Yeah I want to put more time into it! it really needs some getting used to!
I'm a guy who tried VR for the first time ever in Assetto Corsa for 1 hour! (they say make your 1st VR experience in a very subtle slow paced game! haha ) Some of my friends nearly vomited and I didn't have any motion thickness or issues with it!

I do use helmet cam a lot unless I'm in a weird car. I've always used some sort of cockpit camera so for me there's just a fear of needing to relearn tracks with a different view.

Helmet cam
No helmet visible
Primary reason, look to apex. It is really useful to have the driver's head look to the apex entering the corners, just as you would do in real life. I set it to 85. Much more than this and it can make you think the car has snapped loose.

I did turn it off during a race at Circuit of the Americas because of that back esses section - too many right, left, right combos.

Yeah after some tests, I felt dizzy with the helmet cam and something wasn't feeling right!
In the end i discovered it was the last 2 options (helmet leaning and cam leaning) that caused that! I could easily tilt my head in real life and I don't need to game to do that for me! So i turned those 2 settings to Zero!

So I raced a 2hrs race last time with a helmet cam at 100% looking at the apex only! It was nice!
But I'm sure I could have been faster in regular cockpit! Yet I wanted to enjoy the immersion!

But also that 100% causes some issues on some circuits! I think I should maybe lower that value to a less extent or maybe change it based on the track!

Yes. Without actual helmet.
Why? It helps you with braking points without using the racing line. Especially for new circuits (the head movement anticipating turn)

I am always looking for the more immersive experience. Once you tried helmet cam, there is no turning back. This view is a Godsend in the driving game.

Here are mine :

Helmet Camera 100
Show Helmet : it depends of the shape of the cockpit
Helmet Field Of View YES
Helmet Look to Apex 100
Helmet Leaning 100
Camera Leaning 100
World Movement 100

I have tweaked the view to obtain a cam which casts 2/3 dashboard and 1/3road, it gives this in image :

Nice man!
Can you please elaborate a little bit your setup?

I suppose that's on PC since you edited the cam somehow!

But what is the screen size? You distance to it and your FOV?
Isn't 100 camera leaning and helmet leaning too much?!?! It made feel dizzy! I'm a guy who tried VR and i was superfine with it!

I play on Pro. I set the helmet cam to 75 to match the same viewpoint than the cockpit view during photomode. The rest of the affair is a story of seat measurements and head height.

Now I will tell you the truth, I was used to play Pcars1 Helmet cam's FOV with a value of 50. I found that this was the best ratio to match the size of my dashboard's car IRL. My TV is a 50inches one. Sometimes, for a more immersive experience, I switch in Pcars2 with my Pcars1 settings, it gives this in image :

A 50 FOV produces way more immersion, you really have the impression to be in a car, that's so fantastic !!! But my performance is better @75 FOV. Maybe because I haven't change the settings of the control sensitivity in the first place.

Here you will find a tool that could help you to calculate your FOV :
http://www.projectimmersion.com/fov/

I just find it a few minutes ago, and I tried it, and figure out that my 50 FOV ratio was perfectly chosen, because the tool gave me the same value.

I use helmet cam the vast majority of the time, I prefer the immersion it gives.

I will post up my setting later, however it also works well with the speed sensitive POV as well, which varies the POV as a ratio based upon the cars speed. Narrowing it at lower speeds allows for more accurate corner view, and widening it at speed to allow you a better view of mirrors and also a better sense of speed.

If my calculation yields 54 deg of FOV, should I use that with the speed sensitivity?!

And what about G force effects, anyone using those?!

Ok using @Ramrod and @Scaff post i changed my helmet cam settings

Helmet Cam 92
speed sensitivity which for some reason was off :( Now set to YES
Minimum speed sensitivity 90
Maximum speed sensitivity 105
Minimum speed sensitive speed 60
Maximum speed sensitive speed 105
World Movement 90
G-Force Effect 70
Helmet Field Of View YES
Helmet Look to Apex 100
Helmet Leaning 100
Camera Leaning 100

I got dizzy for the first few laps :( But i got used to it after that :) And wow the sense of driving the GTR is even better :D

A Lap around SPA with the new settings

I’ve just started to in the last few days. Just running off the default movement settings at the moment, and have the visible helmet switched off. For the first hour or so it was giving me a slight dizzy sensation, but I’m sure I’ll get used to it.

Like others have said, I find it adds immersion and you get a bit more of a sense of speed as the head pans left or right. Also handy because it allows you to see along the inside of the approach to a turn/during the turn more, and that side of the car’s side-mirror (if you couldn’t already see it with the FOV settings you’re using) during cornering.

I played all racing games on a controller up until the day after PC2 released and since Shift 1 it drove me nuts that I couldn't get comfortable enough with helmet cam to pick it over cockpit view. I've always wanted to use helmet cam as my main view and with all the options in the game for it, that's all I use now.

This was a blast.

Here are mine.

Interesting!
Some questions I have pls:
-80 FOV: Are you that close to your monitor? Or is it that big?! I'm 39" away from my 46" TV and calculations give a FOV of 54.
-15 Helmet look to apex: Isn't that a bit too low?! I mean the head barely moves, right? Why not go for 50?!
I felt 50 gave a very good impression but wanted full immersion and went for 100. Probably gonna lower that.

The FOV is what I feel comfortable with rather than what an FOV calc says I should use, I'm sat around 40" from a 50" screen.

Still playing around with it a little, still need to be 100% happy with the balance with the speed sensitive POV.

The look to apex gives me a enough of a look to be comfortable with, I have tried higher values and just couldn't get on with it, does weird things when you oversteer.

That is the great thing about having so much control over these areas, everyone can find something that suits.

Yeah. I also tried this FOV Calculators, and end up with so ridiculous settings with totally unplayable gameplay. Maybe Because I am setting in front of 42' TV nearly 150 meters away from it? And i can't seat closer to it?

Yes this is why. (You definitely mean 1.5 meters or 150 centimeters).

Imagine it as the angle from your nose to the 2 side edges of the TV!
The bigger the TV, the bigger the angle! The smaller the TV, the smaller the angle!
The closer your are to the TV, the bigger the angle! The farther your are to the TV, the smaller the angle!

You can change one of the 2 factors! Try to find a way to get closer; if not change the TV (if possible of course).

Yeah 1.5 meters xD My mistake. I have changed FOV to "good" settings and end up with setting where there was no Dashboard completly... Very narrow etc. It wasn't comfortable to drive that way. I have set FOV something close to 90. I don't remember exactly, and have great results with it.

I can't seat closer becaouse Wheel Stand Pro doesn't let me, and can't change TV because i have more important financial plans right now ;)

Well that's what I'm driving exactly! I love cockpit view but to use my calculated FOV (54deg) in project cars for example, most of the cockpit will be hidden! A good remedy to that is to change the seating position (I assigned seat positions to my G29 wheel rotational red circle button); so take the seat position as much as possible and most of the cockpit will be shown again!

Also, sorry for interfering but I want to help, is it possible in anyway to get an offset fixation arm for your TV?! (as simple as this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0098JVROM/?tag=gtplanetuk-20)
In this way you will be able to make the TV much closer!

A question from someone who has PC1 but not yet PC2...

Looking at the pictures above by @Scaff it appears that you can now alter all these settings while on track. Is this the case? If you don't have to exit back out to the main option screen that's a great benefit. Being able to tweak them on the fly would be much easier/quicker.

Also are the view options for each individual car or an overall setting?
