Someone should test this out...

I do not recommend this for VR. It more or less borked my setup. Had to reconfigure the Rift. Can no longer play Project CARS 2 in fullscreen mode. And there was certainly no performance boost.

Really? Well, it's going to install at some point whether we want it to or not, right? That sucks.

I think it may be fine. Just do not enter "Game Mode" at any point. As with most VR issues, it's usually a user setting causing the problem. I'll get it sorted. All said, I do recommend holding up on the update until there's more info on it.

This update resets a lot of your application settings. Oculus Home is asking me to redo the setup but I ignored it all is fine. But I have no issues with playing PC2 in VR. I probably should have measured framerates before and after. I don't know if there are any performance improvements.

Got an OR to borrow for a few days. Hooked up to PC2 and even with the OOTB settings it's absolutely amazing! Feeling slightly nauseous at first, but my brain adapted after a few minutes. 👍 The experience is absolutely amazing!
Friend of mine runs it on an i5 and GTX 970 with all the settings on LOW and SS at 1.0...and he absolutely loves it. If worst case PC specs provide an experience so good on what is basically first gen technology, I can't imagine anyone not being thrilled with VR. I'll never willingly go back to 2D screens again. I can't wait for the next gen of hardware. This is one of the rare cases where early adoption of a tech pays off in such a massive way it is hard to calculate. I feel like one of those guys who bought stock in Amazon in the early 2000s. The more I race, the more I love it which makes me want to race more, the more I love it...

Are you hooked into buying your own?

i ask you one thing: psvr does not work with pcars2 yet I know the vr works also like a big "big tv" on which to see pictures (like movies). Is it possible to play this way with psvr? in pcars2 you can associate keys to head movement to look around ... if you could associate viewer movements as visual commands we could then play using psvr like a big tv and move the view as you do with the track -ir???

no, PSVR does not work at all with pcars2 because PS4 is not powerful enough.

You should be able to use PSVR on PC to play Project CARS 2 through SteamVR. Someone else would need to confirm though.

I experimented with Trinus PSVR on PC. But for me it was too much hassle and the result was not that satisfying. But I've also read that others are very happy with it. Worth a try? JRae games has a lot of 'how to' on YouTube. E.g. :

The update borked all the driver related stuff (as usual). I had to reinstall nvidia, fanatec and even folding at home!!! Didn't reinstall the printers because I haven't them installed ATM otherwise I would've (did before).

To disable game mode (it's easy now... NOT)

Same issue for me. I installed after hearing the hype about an fps boost. Before this update, I haven't seen a blue screen in 5 years. Suddenly hard crashes all over the place randomly. I reverted.

I definitely would not recommend playing around with this unstable update.

So, I see the workaround for the HUD bug (where it's distorted and tilted away from you) no longer works after the update. Anyone figure out a new workaround for this? I find it basically useless now, the FFB meter and gear cluster are now outside of my vision when I'm looking straight ahead and having it distorted and up in my face like that makes it very distracting when driving.

You should be able to press NUMPAD 5 to flip it from 3D to 2D.

If go into Help Menu within the the EDIT HUD option, you can see all you can do with the HUD there.

Ah, I had no idea! Thanks pal. 👍 I didn't even know there was a Help Menu in there, I've never really been able to get anything to work in the HUD editor so I haven't explored it for a while other than to just go in there and click "save" to fix the bug.

Anyone notice performance improvements after the update? The game seemed a lot smoother for me.

I'm playing with a 1080ti/i7 6700 and it was solid before but it seemed extra smooth.

The invitational event with the Caterham's is not playable and fun. It looks like they've removed excessive puddles that made that race undrivable.

A friend of mine was complaining that SMS had promised to give PSVR support for the game but haven't delivered yet. Is this confirmed? Is there any confirmation that the game will have PlayStation VR support in the future? I haven't heard anything about it and I think the PS4 isn't powerful enough for it.

Never confirmed. Also far before launch date we knew dat PSVR support would not become available on day 1 and for the future it was/is uncertain. Also has to do with PS4 (not the pro)/PSVR capabilities and the resources neede torun PCars 2 'smooth'

There is no way the PS4 can handle full PSvr support for this game imo. That's why they only allow 2 cars in the VR mode for GT Sport.

Your friend is wrong. They have said for a very long time that the PS4 is not powerful enough and that PSVR would not be supported

Which is a shame because the Pro could handle a decent VR effort I feel but restrictions on exclusive Pro content means we will never see it.

I don't think the PRO can handle it, it really isn't that big of a jump from the OG. Pro owns just hoped it was the next gen but it isn't and never will be. Glad I saved my money and will wait for PS5 and V2 PSVR

For a reference point if playing on PC you might consider using a Windows Mixed Reality Headset. I have most things at max (supersampling 1.8 I think) and get smooth VR. Could be my video card but doubt it. Guessing that Windows MR headsets are just more hooked into the OS than rift. Anyways, here are my pc stats: 8gb ddr3200, i5-8600k (new cpu that just came out), Radeon Vega 64. I wish I could give you fps but don't know how to measure that with WMR headset and pcars2 but it's plenty smooth.

In Assetto Corsa as a reference I'm getting 55+ fps in most cases with most everything maxed (reflection update on low).

Just mention this for anyone building a new vr setup consider the WMR headsets as they are cheaper, higher resolution than occulus, and I believe likely more efficient (not that Occulus probably can't fix that). I don't have any hard evidence, just drawing that conclusion based on what I see Occulus people writing about their results. Dont' see too many using the Vega 64 though so might be that making the difference, dunno.

Just be aware that by going with a WMR headset you'll be missing out on the wonderful Oculus library of games and touch controllers which for me are a huge part of the awesome VR experience. I bought the headset specifically for racing since that's the only kind of game I played but it wasn't long before I had a pretty hefty library of awesome shooters and flyers and platformers that are just immensely entertaining. IMO it's not worth saving a few dollars and gaining a few pixels to miss out on those things. Oculus has their hat in the developer ring with their own studio and lots of support for other studios so it's probably going to be the place to be for the best titles and the largest choice of titles. Plus the new Oculus Home/Dash is pretty impressive and really has the potential to change the way you do computing.

^^ All of this.

Plus, in the UK at least, Rift+Touch is currently actually cheaper than most of the WMR options.

The only WMR headset I'd consider at the moment is the Samsung, as that offers a worthwhile resolution boost over the Rift, but that's not being sold here.

From what I've seen in my few months with VR, Oculus is likely to be the leader in this genre going forward so might as well jump on the bandwagon and get into the ecosystem now. VR is not like other gaming, resolution and pixel count don't mean the same or work the same as they do on monitors so just looking at a spec sheet isn't going to give you an accurate picture of the product. My Rift could suddenly have an update that increased resolution by 20% and not only would I likely not even notice, I probably wouldn't even care. But a software update like the new Oculus Home/Dash is mega exciting and a bit of a game-changer. It's a strange and new world that can't be accurately judged from the outside or described from the inside, it just has to be experienced and even one or two goes with it won't be enough to give you a very accurate picture of what the experience is like.
