Hello everyone.

The government of Ecuador is promoting an innovative initiative, The Yasuní-ITT Initiative!

With it, the government hopes to avoid the exploitation of 846 million barrels of petroleum and thus avoiding the emission of 407 million tons of carbon to the atmosphere.

The Yasuní-National Park is one of the most biodiverse areas in the whole world. One hectare of the Park contains more species of trees and bushes than all of North America.

It's also home to two of the world's last indigenous tribes in isolation, the Tagaeri and Taromenane.

Not only will governments, ONGs and large corporations be able to buy Certificates of Guarantee Yasuní, but citizens from all over the world will be able to donate to the initiative!

Help us support this pioneer initiative by downloading the iPhone App, coming soon to App Stores Worldwide.

In the meantime you may visist the Initiative's page at:

http://www.yasuni-itt.gov.ec

And join the Facebook group at:

If you like it please invite your friends and relatives to join the group as well!!!

Thanks and any questions or comments feel free to post here or on Facebook!

There must be a way to get the oil out without messing with the ecosystem.

Not really.

The Yasuní National Park is one of the most Biodiverse areas in the world. Tampering with that ecosystem could mean that some species of flora and fauna could be gone forever, not only that but two of the world's last indigenous tribes in isolation live there!

You can read more about it at the website!

That's the sort of defeatist attitude the world really needs. We need that oil, man, we have ass to haul.

You are kind of missing the whole point of this thread and the Initiative.

It's alright if you have different point of views. If you don't want to participate in the Facebook group, or inform yourself about the Initiative then no problem!

Thanks though for your comments.

What he means is he thinks we should pursue finding other ways to get the oil out without FUBARing the ecosystem.
