HFS's photography // Instagram, post #121

The wheels on the red Polo (not Lupo!) are from a Porsche 924S. I'm pleased they suit it, as I've been looking at Polo/SEAT Cordoba saloons to replace my car and I'd actually thought about how it might look with those exact wheels. I'd have had them polished or painted though rather than just left stock.

Whoops. >_< I was sleeping there, obviously. I was still stuck on Lupo from the interior shot. And....I can't really tell the difference between the two since we have neither of them here in Canada. ^^; Ah, I was pretty close with the wheels, close enough without looking anything up anyway...
And I would say that they do in fact look good, so if you are thinking about replacing the wheels of your future car with ones similar to those, I would say go for it.

Autumnal loveliness

Was out yesterday taking a few photos for the monthly photo competition. Finally got a bit of sun, just after a quick downpour which I thought would make for some nice photos. It did. I haven't chosen my photo for the comp yet but these are some of the ones I'm not using. I also haven't got around to the idea I'm after for the competition so I may not even have my entry just yet.

And one of DM I took before I returned to the warmth of indoors...

Thanks :) The cobbles shot was vaguely accidental, I wanted a low perspective view up the street as there were some fantastic colours on the trees at the end, but I blindly aimed the camera a little low and a little too zoomed-in and that's what resulted. I've not edited it at all.

The Mazda badge one makes me happy, though I'll re-attempt it at some point with a little more sunlight and a tripod.

The spider web and the cobble stone pathway photos are my favourite. I find spider webs just cool for some reason, although I hate spiders. I guess it's the beauty in natural thing. The cobbles picture is just cool to look at.

I could, but then the surprise factor would be removed. And I still have one more idea I want to try out if I get the time...

The first three are good (especially the first one), but the fourth one falls a bit short.

The sky is dramatic and you've captured it well, but it would totally make it better if the sun was hitting directly and the buildings. I think the darkness drags it down a bit too much.

Can't complain with the composition of any of them though 👍.

I was debating whether to put the forth one up actually because it didn't grab me. Couldn't control the sun though, it's getting very low this time of year and didn't have much of it left when I took that photo, probably only another hour or so (if that). It was a bit more of a snapshot than the others.

The first two are great shots. 👍 Love the composition in both and the lighting is good too. I'd tend to want to add a little more contrast to the shots though.... only a smidgen.

The third shot doesn't work for me at all. There is no real focal point. The last shot as 80Y said, is an almost. The sky is really brilliant and I love how the jet streams lead the eye beautifully, unfortunately the foreground is just too dark and lifeless.

I really like the 2nd shot, it tells a nice story and the first one backs it up by showing the sun breaking through the cold air which it feels like you can almost see!

The other two, however, don't grab me. They don't appear to be focused on much in particular, although they look nice enough.

Small update from last night :) Was walking back from the pub and the moon was very low in the sky, very yellow and absolutely beautiful shining through the bridge. Quickly rushed back to my flat to get my camera, rushed very carefully on the snow back down the hill and fired off a few long-exposure shots. I'll only show one here as it's the one I'm most proud of...

Data: f/10, 13s exposure, ISO 200, 18mm focal length, 3.6 aperture. As always, critique and comments encouraged 👍 It's unfortunate you can't see the detail of the moon but that's what you get with a long exposure. I forgot to bring my 200mm lens with me so no closer shots of that I'm afraid.

Incidentally, the bright "star" visible above the bridge is actually Mars :)

Wow, that's really nice, I love the smooth water too, exposure is spot on as well considering you had so many potential sources to throw it out.

That looks spectacular, the way the water has been smoothed with the long exposure really works well here as it draws your eye away from what would have otherwise been distracting reflections. Brilliant work.

Great shot dude. As mentioned before the water looks amazing. The arch is well exposed as well. You have beautifully captured your city 👍

Thanks for the comments, everyone :) Really appreciate it. I was very pleased with how it turned out, especially since I'd kind of lost interest in my photography for a while after Christmas (blame being ridiculously busy for that) and the decision to shoot down there was done on a spur of the moment. I just feel lucky to live so close to such photogenic scenery!

The image is of course available in big to anyone who requests it via PM. As are any in this thread, in fact.

I've decided to post small versions of some of the "rejects" from past Automotive Photography Competitions, as otherwise they're just sitting on my hard drive doing very little at all...

These are only meant as previews really. They've been resized with photobucket so they'll be easy to load, but probably not the best quality. If you like the look of any of them, pipe up and I can get you bigger versions :)

Most are largely unedited, so you might have to squint to have seen their potential... ;)

*Post edited as I deleted them all from photobucket...*

Nice little update, my favourite would be the old Porsche (No. 727). It's well composed, the car is sharp but the depth of field is also good and the colours are spot on. 👍

I'd quite like to re-do the first one with the car parked in between the damn lines rather than askew! I probably would have used that photo for the black and white comp were it not for that, but then the photo I actually used in the end won it, so perhaps it was fate :P

Edit: Thanks Sweetshop 👍 I quite like that photo but I think it could be improved upon, the colours have always seemed a little bland to me. I like the angle though - I have several shots from that corner and I'm quite pleased with them all. It was a good corner to photograph at.
