Now, a letter has been sent out encouraging home owners to vote no against the signature signing. Who would have though?

The kid worked his ass off for it, so why is this a big deal?

Basically, unless you park it in your garage overnight. He has said it won't fit with 2 cars in there (or by itself anyways) and he's always the first to leave/last home. They are concerned it will decrease property value. Newsflash, that truck is worth more than half of the cars on those streets.

I told him, along with several others, to park it on his front lawn with a big neon sign up that says "suck it" on it.

What, so they actually ban pickup trucks, not just box vans and rigs?

The HOA my grandma is a part of doesn't allow anything to be parked in the driveway overnight.

Homeowners Associations are a terrible thing, when I was growing up we wanted to put a playground in the back of our townhouse complex but they kept saying no. The saddest thing was that we(as in my mom and a few other parents in the complex) were willing to pay for the whole thing.

Of course @Slash posted an article about a Ford vehicle. :sly:

In all seriousness, this is ridiculous. The guy worked his butt off for the the truck, let him keep it in his driveway. The homeowners association is being unreasonable.

Someone needed to get slapped.

I actually just found out about it. Powerblock posted it on Facebook.

I fully agree.

Going by that logic, we should never try to change anything and just let people trample over us.
Why yes, if you choose to do something (like live in a Homeowner's Association) knowing in advance how much you'll be jerked around for doing so, you do forfeit the right to bitch about it when it inevitably bites you in the ass. Thank you for putting it so succinctly.

Can't decide if this is an actual issue Slash has with HOAs, or just made the thread because of a stupid Ford truck.

As Tornado rightly puts it, if you moved into a HOA, you don't have a right to cry about it. Esp. not if the board allowed a vote on it, declined to pass, & is still giving him time to change the rule.

He should have checked the HOA rules beforehand. Not doing so is his problem as his parents, and he by extension, agreed to them when they moved in.

Also, the HOA won't allow trucks but that incredibly crappy yard is alright? Property value priorities much?

The houses in the background look to have well kept lawns, so I'm assuming the yards are maintained individually.

Grow up, dude, I know you're only about as old as this kid but c'mon.

The agreement already existed, it sounds like the association have actually tried to be as accommodating as possible without breaking the existing agreement.

Nice truck kid, welcome to life. It blows sometimes.

> Complaining about an HoA after you chose to live there
He's a 17 year old kid. I don't think it was his choice.

I don't think the first thing to cross his mind was that he couldn't park a vehicle in his own driveway. I don't think that would cross anyones mind.

That's bull:censored:, not letting a couple of kids have an area to play and grow up in. Would you rather they become some drug dealing pile of trash?

Because it's a bunch of bull:censored: for anyone with any type of truck-ish vehicle, and like I said, I don't think the kid much had a choice.

If someone buys an El Camino, what then?

No, but he can either live with his parent's choice or move out.

Regardless of if he thought to look it up or not, the rule is there. It's his and his parent's fault for not looking into the contract they agreed to.

At least we aren't jumping to conclusions. Oh, wait...

True, and he's old enough now where he wouldn't have to wait long to move out anyways.

What if it applied to any vehicle left in the driveway, and not just trucks? Not one person is going to think otherwise that they can't leave a vehicle in their own driveway. I can understand if it doesn't have plates on it (we get that with the town here where they fine you) but still.

It would be different if he had room for it in the garage, because there wouldn't be an issue. It's a vehicle, no different than a car, and just because it has a bed on it, it's somehow terrible for everyone.

Then there is the issue of leaving it on the street and whatnot. It's their property, and he should be able to do what he wants with it.

It was his choice to buy a truck and put a ton of time building it without his parents checking to see whether he could.
He didn't build it, he bought it that way. In fact, it was his neighbors truck.

No HOA is going to have a rule that doesn't allow any car in the driveway; if they do, they must be rare. However, it is a common rule in Associations to not allow full-size pick-ups because they are not associated with the image HOAs strive for.

Regardless of what you can or can't park on the property, it all will still come back to not reading the contract they signed when they moved in.

The street isn't your property either, HOA or not. You can live in a regular neighborhood & still receive a fine if a car sits on the street for an extended period of time.

And he had no idea why it was never parked on the street?

Sounds like un sac de merde.

It's not uncommon for action against large, regularly-parked vehicles to be requested by local councils (they don't always win) on these grounds in the UK due to the protection of "natural" light, maybe it's as much to do with that? Just a guess.

Except his parents signed a contract stipulating that, no, he doesn't have that right.

I don't see him bitching though, I see him trying to change a rule he sees as being unjust. What it seems you are saying is that people shouldn't fight for things like gay marriage because they knew the rules before they got engaged to a person of the same sex so tough 🤬.

Extreme example much?

"Kid fights for his right to park his truck in his driveway" doesn't accidentally get spread around the internet.

Of course, you're neglecting to point out that this seems to be the most benign HoA ever (I know the one my uncle lives in would just have had thing towed the with the second fine); and that the onus was still on him to check this out before he bought the truck rather than react after the fact.

Yep. I totally hate the gays, too. True story.

Hooray for not having transportation then! No where to park it? No problem! Don't do anything with your life!

Jesus, you overreact as much as Justin with these incredible reaches against Tornado's posts. Kid has 2 options, sell the truck or move out if he can't get the rule changed.

Again, I have to wonder if you would have made this thread if it had been anything but a Ford pickup.
