This is great. I can pick and choose those who will have the same kind of trouble when they grow up and buy a house for themself.

The difference here is we're comparing a discriminatory law that carries the authority of the government and the police with a contract that the parents voluntarily signed. It is not even remotely the same thing.

Do you not live in a country voluntarily?

I didn't reach the age of majority and sign a contract when I was born and continued living in Canada.

It's not the same thing, a private group like a HOA is free to place these sorts of restrictions on the property but it's immoral when we're talking about government's who use the courts and have the power to throw you in jail.

I really don't see how they're comparable. Laws vs. rules that you signed a contract and agreed to.

Family is at fault. Best case they can try for is to make a valid argument why the HoA's rulings are outdated and come to a peaceful agreement if they are voted down.

Since the kid is playing the victim card very well (setting up a page that doesn't tell the full story REALLY helps people want to listen to you), the eventual loss of the truck may push him to be more responsible with his decisions later on in life.

Don't blame the HoA. If you signed up without reading the rules and then decided to disobey them and call them communists or whatever that's on you. It's funny, a lot of the same thing happens on this very website you are posting this article on.

HOA are awful, my parents had all sorts of issues with the one in the neighborhood behind them. Despite them never signing a contract, anything being in the deed, and the fact they lived on a county road, they tried to force them the join and even threatened to put a lean on the property. They fought it, and obviously won because there was no basis for the HOA's claim, but still it was a huge pain.

About the topic at hand though, I wouldn't want to live next to a bunch of pick-ups. One in the driveway is fine as long as it isn't a clunker, but still I'd rather not have a bunch of work vehicles next to my house. Our neighbor has a Chevy truck that probably ran him $50k plus and looks nicer than some of the houses on the street, so I'm OK with that, but I wouldn't want to look at some 1970's rust bucket. Also they probably should have read the rules before buying anything, it's the parent's and kid's fault they bought something that broke the rules they agreed to.

Sucks for the kid but the HOA isn't in the wrong. They gave him ample time to do something with the truck and he didn't do anything so they're enforcing the rules that the neighborhood wants. His parents either need to let him park the truck in their garage, he could see if they'll allow (if they have room) a secondary garage or car port, he can move out or he can get rid of the truck.

I absolutely despise HOA though, my Aunt and Uncle live in a neighborhood with a fairly strict one and it is absolutely awful. I could never live in a place where someone tells me what I can and can't do with my own property, especially if I paid close to a million smackers for it. When I was looking for houses I passed over a pretty nice house specifically because the neighborhood had an HOA.

Look at the house across the street. Now look at the kid's truck and that bogus-ass lawn he's parked it on.

It looks like KidHousehold is dramatically lowering the quality of the surrounding properties and affecting real estate values. We don't allow commercial vehicles on our property. Screw that kid.

I don't know how it works in his neighborhood but in my Aunt and Uncle's neighborhood the HOA is responsible for the patch of grass between the sidewalk and street, which is extremely goofy but that is what they've decided to spend money on.

Also, the people in that neighborhood would have a heart attack if they saw my parents house when my brothers and I all lived there. We had 4 Cummins Turbo Diesel trucks (my '91 dually, two '97 2500's and an '03 2500) as well a a '66 Chevy stepside truck. All the diesels have 4" straight pipe exhausts too and all of them, except the '66, were parked outside.
