Well I finally got my car yesterday. Its a 1990 Prelude 2.0Si with 4 wheel steering. I have only driven it around the block as i dont have insurance until Tuesday, after that I can go whereever. It was a bargain at only $4600AU and it has only travelled 165,000km's. Normally cars like that would go for $5500+ so i am very lucky. Its maroon and i will post pictures as soon as my internet is back up to speed.

that link seems to take me nowhere.

Nice find though, your very right when you say you got a bargain, when i was looking at that model, i was looking at around 6500 for what you got. cant wait to see some pics.

Understandable,

Ive never seen the interior of them before, theyre mad, its definantly NSX style swoop dash.. Mad stuff

It certainly is quite sporty and zippy for the price I paid. One of my mates who knows nothing about cars is like, "since when were you getting a supercar?" I laughed. I cant wait untill I can drive it after tuesday, at the moment I am burning CD's for the cd player :)

The '91 Prelude is still the better design IMO , wideflat like a midshipper !

I do't know, I woulda been happy for a 90 prelude as my first car.... So I won't tell somebody how much better it could be...

Congrats to McLaren Man, you got a better first car than most of us did. I'm not a personal fan of preludes, but if you like it, it's better than most of us get, plus the 90's looked nicer than the really new ones - I for one, am happy for you!

Which year Prelude had four-wheel steering an eighties model with the same bodywork as the 1990 . It was'nt continued long but it was a parking dream I was told . . .

Yes this one has the 4 wheel steering and pulling up into the driveway is piss easy, it feels really weird cos it has a much more rotational motion while going turning at slow speeds. At higher speeds it isnt as noticeable as the variable power steering kills the power steering at higher speeds. I was actually planning on getting a 91 Integra LS for my first car, but they're rare as over here. At one stage I was even thinking of getting a Celica, glad that craze didnt last long.

As for modifying it, im not sure at the moment, we'll see what happens over the next few months, but my dad isnt to keen on modifying cars so he will strongly advise me not to. Tomorrow though I will be going to change the front tyres on it because at the moment it has re-treads on it, so after some proper tyres are fitted to it it should be all good. If I can pick up some oil I might do an oil change aswell because at the moment the oil is all right, but it could be better so I think a quick change should do the job.

well it overall looks decent. You should try to unrestrict the air flow in and out of the engine. from the looks of it factory is tiny.

Wow, the civics engine bay is like, a billion better organised, without crazy radiator hoses going everywhere lol.

Muh mums 4x4 is similar to that, leads flying everywhere. Youd think they design it better.

Not bad for a first car. Couple of my friends had those as their first car. Peppy, and with some minor mods, can be real fun to drive on the street.
Welcome to the Prelude family :)

Well, I guess I could submit my new ride for the Club's interest. First off, few comments:
1. I didn't choose those craptacular rims, the previous owner did.
2. They will be replaced as soon as I've got extra $$.
3. I'm swapping the rear brakes for some EP3 discs.
4. Tein FLEX's with the lovely EDFC are in the future. :D
5. Going to see what lip from previous gen. 'vic's I like most. I'm thinking Mugen EK9 lip in CF.
...more to come :D

looks like you have a decent ride matt.

And the air filter is pointing down and isnt in the best position, it should be up higher so it isnt as hot.

your logic is backwards here. the pic you posted looks like a decent spot for the short ram intake to be and there is nothing really wrong with this style, However these type of intakes make power by being les restrictive then factory designs not by fetching colder air. They still suck in hot under hood air being so close to the engine. You could fix this by removing the headlight on the same side but that is just silly unless we're talking full track car which I know we're not.

If you actually wanted cooler air. you would go with a "cold air" intake which actually does mount the are intake close to the ground normaly just infront of the front tire behind the lower bumper. This design does have better power potential over the short ram design as it does not suck in the hotter under hood air that the short ram does. The problem with these intakes is their slight tendency to suck in water on days with more then a light rain. Its not something I'd be overly worried about but If you might be driving on a day with a decent rain you would run the risk of hydrolock which is no fun.

amazing I can write something so long about something so simple...

A real problem with the '90 Prelude is the fact that in the past, if you wanted to add a short ram, or even a cold air intake, you would have to move the battery in order to have enough space. Basically, you had to make a '92+ intake fit under the hood, which could be done with some minor modifications. I've done it on a '90 with some ease, just wasn't a direct bolt on.

I'm pretty sure they make a short ram intake for it now, although i'm not sure what happens to the battery, or anything else thats under the hood.

The stock air intake tubing can be a pain to get out too, as it goes down behind the engine, before coming back out, if I remember correctly. Very restrictive, and the engine would benefit alot from an aftermarket piece.

I want to move the battery to the trunk anyway... There is enough room under the civics hood I just want to take weight off the front end.

Good idea. I'd do it, but unfortuantly, theres not enough room thanks to my stereo taking up the entire trunk.
Another good idea would be to run an Optimum (sp and name?) battery, due to its spill proof design.
I've seen a couple batteries explode in my life time, and i'd hate to see that happen in someones trunk.

optima make good batterys I here. Their yellow top model is tiny but its a deep cycle so it has lots of power. It costs a lot so I probably wont ever buy one but they do look cool.

Sure they cost a lot, but when you factor in the long life of them, versus buying one or two of the cheaper ones, their cost evens out.

yeah I guess thats true. I just looked it up. They say it will last up to 2 times as long and has between 500 and 800 cold cranking amps. prices are around $120-$140.

Thats not bad, considering in Canada, most new cheap batteries cost around 80-90 bux.
The battery in my car is only a couple years old, but as soon as it goes, i'll be looking into an Optima battery. Either Red or Yellow cap, depending on whether I go through with increasing my stereo wattage or not.
Also, since the Optima batteries are universal, who says ya can't take it out and put it into your next car? It'd be a good investment in those terms.

80-90$ ???? Dude what are you buying at that price ??? Are you even a Canadian ??? My battery costs 135,99$, I dunno what you're buying at that price, but stop buying it lol...
