Honda NSX, really?

I've gotta ask this question, I've been putting it off for a couple of weeks now, but I just cant stand it anymore. This is something that has bugged me since I first played GT3. :ouch:

Why are the earlier NSX cars under the Honda name? It's like anything pre-1998 is a Honda. As best I can tell (and remember) the NSX has always worn the Acura badge. At least thats the case here in the States. Is it different elsewhere?

It's strange, that all the detail that PD paid attention to in this series, that they would screw this up. I just doesn't make sense.

If this has been asked and answered a million times, please feel free to lock it, and let it get buried in the forum somewhere.

It's always been known as the Honda NSX in Japan and other global markets. In the States it's always been sold under the Acura name. If you go into the Acura and Honda new car showrooms, you'll see NSXs in both.

All of the Japanese NSXs( steering wheel on right ) are Hondas and all the American ones( steering wheel on left ) are Acuras. I've found a couple Acuras that are earlier than 98'.

Honda NSX in Japan.

Acura NSX in the States and elsewhere.

Too bad they have halted the production of the NSX. 15 years of glory and dominance is now over. I'm awaiting for what the replacement will be, hoping it'll come with a V8/V10 Supercharged motor, but I doubt it since Honda is Cylinder Allergic.

Not quite

Acura NSX in the States

Honda NSX elsewere

As the Acura website itself says "The performance luxury division of the American Honda Motor Company".

I'd buy it, then rape some higher priced cars with more power on some road course. :) :sly:

Exactly. By the way, I've heard that Honda's beancounters have killed the NSX for good, because there is supposedly no profit in making the NSX. The Dualnote and HSC concept cars were supposed to be the future of the NSX, but this could be the end of this amazing supercar. I have a bad feeling the death of the S2000 isn't far off... it seems as if Honda is heading down the path taken by Toyota, slowly killing off its performance cars until we are left with a lineup of boring family sedans. All I can hope is that Honda will stay true to its motorsports roots and reconsider before we lose two of the world's best performance cars.

P.S. We need the Type-R's over here in the States, Honda. Same goes for you, Nissan, I want the darn Skyline GT-R. American import enthusiasts have waited long enough.

Ok, I'm done.

Really? Seems like there are a LOT faster cars for $90k. And dominance? Dominance of what? Not to rag on the NSX, as it is a great looking car and a pretty good performer, but $90k? I'll save my money for something better, thank you :) I'd pay no more than $70k for it, and even then I have a hard time shelling out almost $12k per cylinder :ill:

In the same press release that said they were killing the NSX they said that they were developing a sucessor to it.

There's a lot more to a car than numbers on paper. The NSX was made to have few compromises, to be pretty fast and great handling, while still having a comfortable ride and being suitable as a daily driver. Not to mention how it's made, for example each engine is hand-built by a single technician. Its build quality surpasses many cars that cost even more.

I won't argue with that, but how does that equate to dominance? Personally I see it more of a luxury semi-supercar. If it had about 100 more horsepower it would be up there with the best of them, but as it is I'll take speed over creature comforts any day :) Nothing wrong with the handling or MR configuration though, it's just overpriced in my opinion :)

I'd agree with that, over here in the UK it was known as the poor mans Ferrari, it never sold in great numbers and doesn't justify the dominant tag.

THere's Acura in Europe too, i believe. I don't live there, but I heard the TSX (or Honda Accord w/ I4 engine trim) is designed for European market, then into the North American markets.

Well, the NSX is a superb handling car, but I agree, if I had 90k, I wouldnt buy it. There are tons of cars out there much faster and exotic than the NSX. I think its overpriced. I'd rather buy a Dodge Viper, or a Lotus Esprit for roughly around the same price, hell its even more expensive than a Corvette.

But its still a great car though.

Is this the one you're talking about? :)

And even the Integra Type R was a Honda here, so no Acuras for us.

Acura only exists in US, elsewhere known as Honda. They are like lexury division of Honda here in US. Just like Lexus (from Toyota) and Infinity (from Nissan)

But I wouldn't pay $90k for a 15-year old design that "holds it's own" Why not just get a year-old ferrari?

i wasnt suggesting that it was good buying at $90k

i myself am a big honda fan, but would agree that there much better cars than the NSX regardless of the price

what i was trying convey, was that it was a good car in its day, and its only in the last 5 years or so that its starting to look badly outdated - most definately time for a new one

Yea, of course there are cars out there at are a lot faster than the NSX for the price of 90k. Dominance, it can take out cars that put out more power than the NSX itself does. It can hold its own on a road course, but going straight it'll probably get owned. Although, the technology and comfort of what goes into the NSX is pretty worth the 90k. Just in my opinion of course.

The HSC/Dualnote still has chances of coming back as the successor of the NSX/R.

in GT4 the BEST BANG FOR YOUR BUCK IS THE PROTO MOTORS SPIRRA,

or the 86... with super charger and ECU and SEMI racing exhaust,.

The NSX is basically an old car now. Time to replace it. Let's hope Honda can improve on such an old design, considering how much they must have learned. Only question is, will they?

Relax...NSX is worth it...Come on, how many cars looks that great, rides comportably, rev so freely, and relatively fuel efficient(Vtec)? The chassis on that car is AMAZING! Hard work from Honda engineerers. Last and staying competitive with an 10 year old chassis...you got give them kudos for that! The only downfall is that low-power... At least give us 300 horsepower!!!
