old news but... hows 4.0 L v8 that makes 590 BHP sounds?

http://www.vtec.net/news/news-item?news_item_id=319284

why is it in a sedan?
honda going to try to butt heads with AMG maybe?

anywho.. pretty impressive. I love how honda engineers keep managing to squease > 100hp/ltr out of their engines.
where you could probably put a small child in the cylinders of an american V8, and still not get near 590hp out of the thing.

and what *is* honda in your opinion?

are you completely unaware that they make high quality engines of many different cylinder counts?
they have a 3.0L V10 making ~950hp @ 18,500, in the BAR F1 car... for instance. (next year it will be a V8)

so how would it be "un-honda" for them to take racing technology off the track and put it in street cars... considering this is something honda has been doing for over the last 50 years or so, i'm not sure what you mean by your statement.

a v10 is different to a v8, i wasnt talking about the number of cylindars that it had, but meerly the reputation a v8 has. People who say, v8 is simply the best engine, anything else is simply not worth anything, 4 & 6 cylinders are for pansys, petrol heads mainly dwelling with falcons commodores and overseas equivilants have put this in place. As shown by Martinmaxxx there are some very nice v8's around. Hondas have never attracted petrol heads ( the kind ive previously stated) and it would 'un honda' of them to attempt to attract them. Formula one racing is a tottaly different scheme of things, if they have to change to v8 to comply with whatever standards.... not there problem... The V10 that you mentioned being only a small engine (3L) producing comparitively high output at insane RPM, sounds very honda to me.

Guys, guys.....without the beloved NSX, Japan would have not seen its sperm-like offspring; the "Midship Amusement" master, the HONDA BEAT! Everyone knows this car rocks! Hell, im not sure but since it only has an L3, could the engine be a derivative of the V6 found in the NSX????? HMMMMMMMM, questions, questions.
bt-nsx.jpg

And correct me if im wrong but isnt that the very UN-famous TODAY G (L2 engine!!!) and the "actually-pretty-sweet" City Turbo in the background! And maybe even the Z-Act in the far background?

haha questions indeed. Although it doesnt seem like much in gt4 the beat wasnt a bad car. P.S when posting an image plz just use the thumbnail, because the poor 56k'ers sometimes struggle.

I would just like to bring attention to Honda, who has now officially anounced that there will be a successor to the current NSX. they also hinted at being a v10. this is official news retrieved from Honda spokespeople themselves and printed in the september issue of Wheels magazine.

".. since the buzz surrounding the 2007 Nissan Skyline GT-R, honda has been prompted to fight fire with fire."

"The cylinder count for the new car, due in 2008/2009 is a complez issue. Honda boss Takeo Fukui talked about an F1 link with the v10, but with the F1 rules set to see a switch to V8's from 2006, its not immediately clear how his will mesh up with the new engine proposed for the new NSX."

This new made disco dance like it twas 1975. I hope they keep the v10, but who knows with all these formula one troubles, seeing this is Hondas heritage, its goin gto be a hard decision.

honda has already confirmed that the next nsx will have a V10. ill see if i can find a link if you want.

They said that due to recent changes in formula one, that theyre not sure what to do. a v10 seems likely, but due to Hondas NSx being a close descendent of its racing heritage, it makes it hard for them. especially now that F1's are v8.

This is very old news.

This is not old news. It has only jus been CONFIRMED that theres will definantly be a successor to the NSX. There have been rumours for years, but nothing was ever based on anything but word of mouth.

Honestly, I think that all these car companies create their "new" makes because they know Americans like to dish out extrordinary amounts of money for a rebadged car they could have gotten under a different badge for less money. This is where car companies are smart....And where many americans are stupid.

Actually, Some of that is true, but also it's because of typecasting.
When Lexus or Acura first came out in the 80's, who thought a Toyota or Honda could be a "nice" car? No-one, everyone thought they were just little boxes that got you from point A to B. So they put out a luxury car under a different name and all of a sudden it's not associated with "little box" anymore. Now-a-days everyone knows that the japanese companies can make a "nice" car, but it was just easier to leave the known names in place.

Which is different from the nissan/datsun thing. That was just because Nissan didn't want to tarnish it's name with a failed company when they came to the states. As soon as they saw that their cars were liked, they brought out the Nissan name in America.

Here's the text about the replacement for the NSX. It was on the Honda world site.

< NSX successor >
We are now focused on the development of a new model to succeed the NSX for a new era. We would like to debut a new super sports car equipped with a V10 engine in 3 to 4 years. Please look forward to seeing the NSX successor.

And to respond to those who think that Honda will be pushed to put a v8 in it instead due to the F1 switch.........
There's no reason why the NSX has to switch. Just because the f1 cars now use a v8 (or will) the NSX v10 would STILL be derived from the F1 V-10. It's still keeping close to the racing "heritage" that is known of the NSX engines. It's just not This Years engine that it's derived from.

Also on the site was this. I think it's cool. 40 percent more efficient huh? Sweet!
< HondaJet >
HondaJet will make its first public demonstration flight next week, July 28, at EAA AirVenture 2005, an annual exhibition of experimental aircraft, held in OshKosh, Wisconsin. Since its maiden flight in December 2003, HondaJet has taken numerous test flights. Total flight time to date has reached 150 hours, and HondaJet has so far achieved its maximum altitude of 13,000 meters and maximum speed of 728km/h. Honda will continue its testing efforts for HondaJet which improves fuel efficiency by 40% compared to existing aircrafts in its class by combining excellent aerodynamic performance with the high fuel efficiency of Honda’s HF118 engine.
