As for the name, this team was originally the Tyrrell team I think (before BAR) so why not call it Tyrrell?

Thats correct, but I don't think thats right seeing as Ken is dead (RIP). I think it would be better to start a new name - and I think they should continue the tradition of naming it after someone's surname too.
Though calling it "Fry" or "Brawn" sounds silly, lol.

The news piece linked in PeterJB's post also mentions that it is probable they keep both Button and Barrichelo. I wonder how well Rubens gets along with Brawn, considering the many things he said about what went on at Ferrari in the Schumacher era, and what role Brawn had in all that.

Funnily enough, I think Barrichello is likely to stay because of Brawn, and to be fair to Ross, he was only technical director at Ferrari - the decisions made against Rubens were no doubt more Michael and Jean's.

The Swiss newspaper Blick said of rookie Senna: “The young Brazilian will drive in the DTM championship [in 2009].”

Gah, if this happened please don't end up another Di Resta. Although with the name and sponsorship that would be a very unlikely outcome.

....Should have stuck to GP2 :guilty:

Well, it's nice to know they've been saved. Even if they don't have much in the way of a chance, I likes my grid to be as full as possible.

Rubens Barrichello has a new deal with Honda for 2009 and will be testing the car at Silverstone this week, GPUpdate.net has been informed. Chances of the popular Brazilian retaining his drive increased last week, with a management buyout of the team now looking more likely.

Barrichello's drive was put in doubt when Honda announced its withdrawal from Formula One in December, with a high possibility of sponsors' favourite Bruno Senna taking his compatriot's seat alongside Britain's Jenson Button.

However GPUpdate.net has been informed by sources close to the team this morning that Barrichello, the most experienced man in F1, has been retained for 2009 and is expected to be at Silverstone this week for a shakedown of the new car.

This news follows recent comments from Mercedes' Norbert Haug which hinted that "'a very suprising name" could be offered a drive in Germany's premier touring car series DTM this season.

It's great to hear that Barrichello's seat is confirmed. Senna really should've stuck with GP2 for another year. Hopefully the move to DTM doesn't ruin his career in anyway.

It doesn't mean Senna is going to DTM. He coud be kept on as a test driver, though given The Team Formerly Known As Honda's financial situation, I don't think they're going to be able to field one and instead rely on the more experience JB and Barrichello.

Mr Wurz seems quite confident of sticking with the team....or have we already forgotten him?
I thought the idea of bringing Senna on board was because he has a fair bit of backing...something which the team would want right now?

I think both Wurz and Senna will be helping the team but won't be doing much this year, it sounds to me like the DTM option is just to keep Senna occupied while the team sorts itself out.
Barrichello will stay another year then may move on to help (or help at the same time) USF1. Eventually Rubens will run out of places to go in F1 though, I suppose it largely depends on what he manages to do in this season.

And "Brawn Racing" does sound silly, but its better than Brackley anyday.

"Test-driver" without third-car Fridays, or in-season tests? What good is that?

In-season tests. I know testing has been limited for this year, but it would give Senna a little more experience with an F1 car before making the transition to a competitive drive.

The testing ban is a bad idea.

What happens if you get to the first race and you are 2 seconds off the pace? With testing you have the chance to claw some of that back.

Without testing you may as well not turn up for the rest of the season.

I know they will do a lot of computer development/testing but that has never produced good results in the real world.

It did - every radical aerodynamic development in the past few years is computer-designed. The McLaren's "organic" form would never have been possible otherwise - and we've seen how quick it went.

But indeed, it's a time of radical changes - someone will probably lose out and end up off-pace.

What happens if you get to the first race and you are 2 seconds off the pace? With testing you have the chance to claw some of that back.
But on the other hand, the other teams that you're behind will also be able to test, and they could easily dial that distance out again after all your hard work to rein it in.

True but the faster you are the less improvement in pace is available to you. It's teams at the back that gain the most from testing because there's more room for improvement.

The Team Formerly Known As Honda has officially unveiled its new name: Brawn GP. The team has been carried over to new team princpial Ross Brawn (bet you didn't see that one coming!) with immedate effect, and the car - known as the BGP 001 - will be powered by Mercedes Benz's FO 180W engine (as will McLaren and Force India). It will make its on-track debut at Jerez along with the STR-4 on Monday.

If they can survive their first year without trouble, this should be interesting. No more Shuei Nakamoto! I wonder who Brawn has lined up as a replacement ...

I wonder who their sponsor is going to be ... the team's official colours are white with black and yellow, but going by the Wikipedia article, a Portugese website is reporting that the cars will be blue (there's too much blue on the grid these days ... we need more yellow and green) in keeping with their major sponsor, someone who has allegedly never been involved in Formula One before (which narrows down the prospective candiates by about half a percentage point).
Fastest website build ever!
It was probably made several days ago; Brawn an everyone at Brackley has no doubt known what's going on for a while now given that they were given the order to get ready for the tests in Jerez next week. I believe the domain names were registered in the team's - or maybe just Brawn's - secreatry's name. The website only went online to co-incide with the annoucement.
Although it shows they are aiming for our support already, they seem to want to involve us a bit more than other teams.
Is that really a bad thing? The way I see it, if they want to make a Formula One team more accessible to the public, then so much the better. FOTA are pushing for mandatory driver autograph sessions as of next year, but I get the feeling Brawn Grand Prix are trying to build up an Eddie Jordan-esque image: maybe not the fastest on the circuit, but certainly one of the friendliest off it (at least, that's how I always saw EJ).

I never said it was a bad thing. Formula 1 needs more accessible teams. Jordan were probably one of the friendlier teams on the grid when they were there, but now I'd say Red Bull are by far the most fun loving team in F1. It'd be great to see it become less smoke and mirrors are more engaging, and like you said with mandatory autograph sessions and more information releases the teams are being forced to become more open.

However, as insane as it sounds, part of the appeal of F1 was the outrageous budgets and the secrecy, and I just hope these new rules dont damage F1s unique appeal.

To be fair, they are probably testing with grooved tyres because they probably didn't get much data on their 2009 aero like the other teams did last year when they were still testing with grooves.
That or they are testing their aero changes before testing with slicks.

It's a shakedown - you use whatever's closest to the car at the time. Some teams did shakedowns on Inters when the track was dry. Last year, there was a shakedown with three dry tyres and one Intermediate.

The single picture doesn't look too bad...

The front wing is very similar to the Williams I have to say.
