Horizon Zero DawnPS4

There probably will even be a "Windmill" section in HZD :P and Aloy must be eating loads of "hagelslag" to keep that energetic :D

pfffff...download is just done! Can't wait to get started at the end of this afternoon đź‘Ť:):)

Its soooo addictive. Thought I'd give my first playthrough on Very Hard difficulty.

Such a fun game.

This battle reminded me of Mad Max and Uncharted. As they kept coming. Yet violent like Mad Max.

Played a couple of hours yesterday and I must say the graphics are beautiful, gameplay is also very good, it's a nice mix of plan, stealth and action in the fights.
Lip-sync and facial animation of the NPC's could have been better, but the rest of the game makes up for it. (up until now)

Also I love the little detail when you play as young Aloy, that when she starts walking she starts with a little skip.
The animations are very nicely done.

Furthermore very stable framerate and no weird graphical glitches so far.
Encountered one little problem when Aloy got stuck on a bucket, luckily the game saved properly and after reloading the last save I could continue my quest.

What's the recommendation on mode usage on ps4pro for a 1080p screen ? Performance or Quality ?

As far as I know it doesn't run higher frame rates if you put it in performance mode, but even on a standard PS4 it runs a very stable frame rate, 30FPS.
So if you don't mind that I'd go for quality in this case.
Like I said earlier the game already looks stunning on a standard PS4 imho.

Also have a look at Digital Foundry's and Candyland's analysis on youtube and here http://www.playstationlifestyle.net...frame-rate-improvements-says-digital-foundry/

Very impressed by the pictures, which makes me want to join in - if the plot rationale for having mechanical dinosaurs is okay, I'll likely join you all in a month or so.

In the meantime, seeing all the pictures has got me keen to play Enslaved: Odyssey to the West again - I think it's the colour palette and some of the locations, plus of course the overgrown cities.

12+ hours in. Lost track of just how long I'd been playing.
Not many games have had me hook, line, and sinker from the intro cutscene, but... my god.

I'm on a base PS4 with a Samsung 22 inch PC monitor, and this is the most visually appealing game I have ever played. Like, I'm still being impressed with every new area I discover, what with the time and weather changes.

Combat was intuitive, but it took me until the first hunting ground trial to really figure it out. Crafting is a bit wonky, my understanding is that learning how to craft ice/shock arrows is based on what type of bow you have. Interesting enough, but a bit problematic against some of the harder robodinos.

Story is excellent, even though I'm running through so many side quests before doing main story stuff. The thematic setting really does fit with the way the game progresses.

Only a few minor problems I've noticed. Swimming is wonky, you can clip into certain rocks. Definitely not Skyrim levels of jank, but also not enough to negatively affect gameplay.

Being warned that your save file will be reloaded if you deviate from the playable area - i.e. get outside the map proper - was an interesting way of keeping players inbounds.

Not going to comment on the photo mode in this thread, other than that it's by far the best in a game I have ever used (me personally.)

This game has my (early) vote for GotY.

I think I've logged about 9 hours, I'm not enjoying it as much as in the beginning. The dialogue just seems a bit soulless despite the occasional witty lines from Aloy and traversing the map to reach an objective can be tedious as you need to find a new mount every time one gets destroyed or lost, I would have liked companions like you see in Bethesda's games as an option as well.

The robots are great though, the vulture ones might be my favourite so far, I caught one swooping down from a cliff to strip a watcher earlier and as it tried to chase me I just ropescasted it to the ground and it was flapping around in the air like an idiot as I made my escape. :)

My wife bought it to play so I'll probably check it out once my PS4 gets done with it's 17 hours of updates.

I didn't think the robot enemies would get even better but then I encountered Stalkers and a Rockbreaker, the Stalkers are those stealthy cheetah things from the trailer and the Rockbreaker is something I wouldn't want to spoil. The story behind the robots seems to be coming together nicely as well.

This isn't necessarily directed at you, but once someone here has completed the game, could they please DM me with the explanation behind the why of the dinosaur robots. I don't mind the spoiler, I just need to know why.

I think Aloy is really strong on melée. I like to use the spear 👍

This afternoon I simply wandered around in the World to level up a bit. This because so far I only followed the mainstory and paths. After 6 hours I was already on my way left top of the map. Hadn't mounted a longneck yet but that task is done. Tomorrow back to story.

You guys do what? Mainstory first of working region by region ?

Here the bit where I got stuck on the bucket.

Played about 2 hours (mostly admiring the view) but so far so good, I'm playing on normal since I'm terrible at RPGs especially when it comes to crafting etc.

Any tips I should be aware of? certain skills that are more useful?

I haven't gotten very far into the game (currently Lvl 16), but I find arrows that do Tear damage very useful against a variety of machines. However, you need to have decent aim (helps to pick the skill that slows down time when you aim) and the supplies to craft them are a little hard to find.

And for me, I would develop the Skills that promote critical hits and that skill that grants longer dodge rolls. Also the skill that increases the Medicine capacity bar.

So far my experience has boiled down to

*load game*
"wow"
*take picture*
*turn around*
"wow"
*take picture*
*turn around*
"wow"
*take picture*
*turn around*
"wow"

and repeat.

I just arrived at Meridian... holy cow, it's probably the prettiest city hubs I've ever seen yet.

I think I went for quite a number of battle and stealth stuff first.

----------

Heh, crazy some of the battles on very hard. I spent most of the time mashing the dodge while trying to watch that bloomin demon. It was so fast that if you tried to rotate it would have killed you.

I did have some fun battles with two Sawtooths, two or three Scavengers? and 3 - 4 deer looking things. That was crazy in the forrest. Wished I had saved that.

I cannot remember the names.

I really need to fine tune the hud. See what I really do not need displayed.

Finished the main quests, the writing was very good but for some reason I didn't care as much as I wanted to, I can't put my finger on what games like TLOU and TW3 did to make me care about the characters so much more.

I don't know how to feel over the ending, initially happy then sad and then angry.

TLoU is an exceptionally written tale and I think it'd be difficult to reach that level of accomplishment. Thank you once again for sending the explanation via DM - appreciate it.

Are the machines still out there after you finish the main quest or is the world empty?

Don't want to spoiler it for anyone, so is it possible to answer me with spoilertags included?
It's not really a spoiler but here
After the credits roll the game returns to a state prior to the final mission.

Like I said it's a good story with a few little twists and everything seems to make sense when you look into things in depth, it felt quite original to me as well.

No problem.

Something, anything needs to be done about the responsiveness of button input in this game. I'm trying to take down a Thunderjaw in the Zeta Cauldron and I've had it done for a number of times, only to die because Aloy refuses to pick up the disc launcher.

It's utterly frustrating, and for the love of god stop auto-adjusting the camera's POV to account for the sheer size of that damned thing when it charges me. I can't see where I am or what I'm doing and it only makes matters worse.
