OK, so sex-crazed kids post girlie pics, mods edit /lock/ban as necessary, and I ignore any thread named "Poll: Who do u think iz the HOTTest femail celebriTitty". What's the problem? The system works. Do you want a system where every post must be approved by Jordan & the gang before it goes into the forums? Do you expect teenage boys to stop thinking about sex? Best of luck to ya.
But here's the real kicker: If the postings of hormone-amped teenagers drove me to post long-winded, condescending lectures, then why would I spend a lot of time at a set of videogame-related forums??
1) I
also am smart enough to ignore any threads that are titled like that.
Duh. But as I've said multiple times above,
that doesn't help when a thread gets taken over by a bunch of lame-os in the middle of a different discussion. I
don't expect
anybody to stop thinking about sex. I just expect them to keep the majority of the idiotic discussions
off of these boards or at least in
hot-sex-topic threads here in the Rumble Strip, rather than splattered everywhere else just because they are too attention-deficient to PM somebody or to bring it here instead of going off in the middle of a real thread. Why is that too much to ask?
The whole reason I
am ranting is because I
don't want these boards to go to an approval-only status. I've been there, and done that, and if I was Jordan I'd close the boards down in a heartbeat before I went through
that again.
2) I come here to talk about GT3 (again,
duh) for the most part, and contribute to a community where the participants have something to offer each other in the way of friendship, advice, and fun. This is the best set of forums on this subject that I've found to date, with the best combination of knowledge and vitality around. So I have a big interest in
keeping them that way. Annoyance factor aside, there is a real possibility that an uptight parent combined with an unlucky underage kid looking at inappropriate stuff posted here could lead to trouble Jordan doesn't need.
My point is that there are places to see naked people, and places to discuss naked people, so those pictures and discussions don't have to happen
here at GTP where the general topic is really dedicated to something else entirely. Why is it such a problem to ask people to stay on-topic
even a little? This thread has developed an interesting subtext (pornography vs. artistic nudity) that is
entirely relevant here. Not a problem. But it
wouldn't be appropriate in a thread about, say, tuning the TVR Speed 12. If you absolutely
must post about the latest artificially-enhanced bimbo, it's just not that hard to take the extra 15 seconds and go to the Rumble Strip to start a discussion on the subject of how hot she is.
Then Robin made this brilliant contribution:
i think the point has been proven and neon_duke has had another good whine about something. whats the real point of this thread being open anymore?
as long as there are rules, people will break them. thats just the way it is.
The real point of this thread being open, Robin, is that some people who are capable of doing so are still having an intelligent discussion in it. I realize that you're not interested in any thread that stays on topic or that contains posts longer than 25 words. You know what? I don't go into threads you start anymore. Don't bother coming into mine.
People who absolutely
must break the rules just because they are the rules are total idiots. They
think they're being cool and rebellious. Big freakin deal...
By always having to break whatever rules are given, they are allowing society to dictate their lives just as badly as if they were total conformists. You listening,
mayorbill11?
On the topic of pornography itself, I don't have anything against it. The people pictured are doing so of their own free will, and in exchange for money. That's their business. People who want to find it are free to do so. That's
their business. But if you
don't like it, you shouldn't have to see it (no matter how 'soft') in a public, all-ages forum that is dedicated to a completely different subject.
