For some reason I was always more into street cars than full on drag stuff. I'll definitely look into him.

There actually was a Pontiac version of a Corvette in pre production stages at one point.
 
GM wouldn't let Pontiac have the Banshee since it would compete with the Corvette so it allowed Pontiac to have the Firebird instead.
 
It would be if it wasn't 5,000 pounds and still on a stock suspension. Rumors have been going around saying that AMS might be building a new engine for it with a goal of mid 9 second passes in the future.
