All hail George Poteet for actually driving the cars that he has built for him.

All hail indeed, some know what having such a huge honor is and use their custom cars to their fullest abilities.

"Welcome to the Big Wheels Meet! Stock size? We laugh in the face of that."

It was the 70s. Everyone wanted their street cars setup like pro stock drag cars

That car gets driven, too. The cars owner (George Poteet) will not have a car built for him with a sole emphasis on being a show car. Everything that he owns gets driven on the street (his Bonnevile LSR cars are the exception), and he demands that even his high end cars such as this Torino are built so that they can reliably put miles on the pavement.

Yep most of his cars have also done the long haul of the HRM power tour even with it was a the pre '02 Cross country route.

It's amazing they let that piece of trash enter the dragstrip, let alone run.
Have you seen what they have taken to the track on Roadkill before? That thing would be mint in comparison lol. Basically took a junkyard Cuda, put tires on it, got it running and then threw a 150 shot at it and ran it haha.

Holy Mother of Jesus.

And for last, which might not eb best, I know some of you will be baffled or not knowing I post stupid **** but I wasn't aware of this till now, back in 2008, this was in SEMA. The paintjob is not really all that good but really, a SSR, turned into this beast?

Come on, you gotta give credit. The SSR wasn't a very good car to begin with but this made me happier. Only if the acr was more cleaner, without those flames and the round sticker on the doors, I would with pleasure see this thing in action.

That's the joy of drag racing. Those guys will race anything that they can make fast, and for most, it's future value be damned. This Camaro below is a real deal 1967 Z/28 that has been drag raced since new. It is also owned by two brothers who both raced it. Think that they care about this car's rarity from a numbers perspective? They sure as hell don't. In fact, they still campaign this car to this day. Although, to be fair, this Z would be out of place at any place else than a drag strip, but I approve of this bad boy being used rather than being a mere conversation piece.

I don't think there's a single real SSR element in that thing. All fiberglass.

Some just take the "race" part in the "vintage racecar" to the most literal level. I understand that feeling; when you hear about the car's past on the dragstrip, why wouldn't you campaign it? Especially when racing runs in your blood, seeing a car like that standing still almost feels like an insult. And it's whay you said, a Z who saw nothing more than strip cannot feel right anywhere else... May they enjoy their car to the fullest of its capabillities.

It's one thing to hack up a real Camaro Z/28 these days. Back then it was just what people did . No different than people taking a new 5.0 and building them.

This absolutely. If the car has been racing since new, back then it was, well, juyst another Camaro.

Tell your dad I want to hug him. Really.
"Hey dad, some internet dude wants to hug you."

Eh, screw the hug. Tell your father I want to be his lost-in-Mexico son. Got damn.

The Monte Carlo looks absolutely, impossibly kick ass with the Vette wheels.

Dude, specs, times, whatever! Don't leave us just like this!

LOL.

It was in one of the big mags in the 80s. I think dad was wearing white pants and aviators, super drug dealer look.

I'll see what I can dig up. He didn't take many pictures back then.

If you can find more pics, that would awesomesauce. If not, just tell us what´s under each car!

Hell, if you can dig out the feature or the car, it would be amazing.
