In the early days of drag racing, and specially when the NHRA banned the use of nitromethane, several builders came up with twin engined dragsters to make up for the loss of power by having to run gasoline instead of nitro:

There were also tandem-mounted twins:

When the nitro ban was lifted in the late 60s, the twin-engine craze of the past few years led to exhibition cars like Tomy Ivo's Wagon Master, with 4 Buick engines and 4-wheel-drive, which made full-track, 4-wheel burnouts:

And yes, there have been attempts to do stuff like this on street cars:

It is basically a roadster version of the Way 2 Fast, since the HW car is a 32 Ford tudor sedan and the one in trhe pic is a 32 ford roadster.

also, I'm deep into Hot Wheels myself, if I come across the first edition of the Way 2 Fast, I'll let you know.
