I know. But it would be fun wouldn't it?
I think the best way to attack it, would be to first establish those wheel arch vents, using thin gauge modelers card, and then go about adding putty and sculpting. The rear diffuser doesn't look too hard, as it's all pretty much straight edge (again, modelers card, same for the wing).

This could work as a good basis:

I saw a while ago on HWC someone cut off that body kit and put it around a '69 Camaro. It didn't look too bad actually.

Any pics of either of those two, guys? Did you notice whether they had to adjust/chop or extend the wheelbase?
Regardless, it would indeed make a fine pre-made wide arch set. 👍

I'm excited to get started on mine. While I do plan to do quite a bit of cutting and whatnot, it won't be over the top by any means. I think tastefulness is what it's going to take to win this and that is what I am planning.

Don't know if you've seen FPR's finished cars, so here's a couple of pics:)

Please, do NOT make a custom of those cars. The livery is absolutely revolting. Probably the worst livery I've ever seen (IMO).

Great work everyone, though!

Hey guys I love reading the chatter on her regarding the Lamley custom contest. I have a handful of judges lined up, and it will be interesting to see what impresses them. Remember there will be a reader's choice prize as well...

Mine is stripped already, man. I've decided on color and deco, and what custom touches I'll be adding, as well as the wheels. Now I just need to do it  but I hope it'll be ready for the 24th.

EDIT: Oh, and Ahmed is also participating, but he was having trouble finding a base car; if he doesn't by tomorrow I'll go pick one up for him assuming I still find some at my Wal Mart.

Mine is disassembled, wheel swapped, tampos removed, and detailing started. Like I said, not going all out. Hopefully the devil is in the details. :sly:

I still need to make a decision on mine. It probably will be a smashed ride, it probably won't make sense to the judges, but I guess this will open their eyes.

I've finished filing and removind casting imperfections on most of the cars I stripped, including the M3 which had a casting defect in the front bumper, which is now gone. Only a 40 Ford woody left, but the curves on the fenders will be a lot easier to work on with the Dremel than with a file by hand.

I've found the casting on the M3 to be particularly bad. If I was repainting mine I would file it down, but since I'm not I guess I'll just have to live with it.

Mine wasn't bad at all, just that little thing in the corner of the front bumper, everything else was in fact pretty good.

I also thought about leaving it the stock silver color, but I opted for a bit more flash; 'sides, I'll also be using the color I chose for it for another car at least.

Wheelwells and windows are fine in mine; casting lines are pretty much unavoidable, but it's nowhere near as bad, you should have seen one of the 32 Fords I stripped, casting lines looked like foam!

That orange Miata I did was really bad. Not particularly casting lines, but all the panels were uneven.

Speaking of Miata's, next big project and it might be that extra Miata you sent me. :scared:

I just remembered and looked for the pics:

Which one, the loose yellow Miata? Lol if I had known you were going to rip it off I would have sent you a wasted one, I have three.

I think you just got a bad M3, all of mine look great apart from microscopic tags on the front corner casting seams of a couple.

+1 That is real cool, the base suits the AE86 real well. If it had smaller diameter rear wheels/arches to match the front, it would be perfect (imo).

The black paint used to create the front's grill, and especially the area where the signal light is.
