How do you make avaters?

What programs do you guyz use? I have Flash on my comp (Mac)... will that work? Or do I have to use something else?

Well, there's a giant thread in this forum dedicated to Avatars(http://forums.gtplanet.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7134), and you can also click on any avatar on the site to get more information about them...
