PSVR2 and Motion Simulators: Seeking Advice

Hi GTPlanet crew! šŸ‘‹

Iā€™ve been diving headfirst into GT7 with the PSVR2, and I have to say, the level of immersion is mind-blowing! But, as many of you VR racers might know, staying ā€œinside the play areaā€ can be a challenge, especially when you get into the heat of a race. The game pauses if you move too much, which is less than ideal when youā€™re trying to shave seconds off your lap time! šŸ˜…

Now, Iā€™m ready to take things up a notch and build my own motion simulator. Iā€™ve been researching setups like the SFX 100 and SFX 150. My initial plan is to start simple with a 4-actuator platform and then add features like surge and traction loss later on. But hereā€™s where I could really use some help from this amazing community.

Has anyone here tried combining PSVR2 with a motion rig? How well does the headset tracking hold up with all the movement?

I know GTPlanet is full of experienced racers and DIY enthusiasts, so any advice, tips, or personal experiences would be massively appreciated! Once I get everything set up, Iā€™ll be happy to share my progress and results with the community.

Thanks in advance for your help, and Iā€™ll see you on the trackā€”virtually, of course! šŸŽļøšŸ’Ø

Hi,
I am using the motion rig SR1 of simrig.se a Swedish company which does produce very good quality for decent price (starting from 3.5kā‚¬, still lots of money but much cheaper than many competitors).
Combination of PSVR2 and motion is absolutely brilliant!! I It works very well, some cars have limited interior space and if you set the motion too high (just a few days ago I started to increase it) you might see the green cage since you are ā€žoutsideā€œ the car, but this is rather the exception. I can adjust and save settings for each car, so for the few cars where this could be a bit annoying, I just lower the settings a bit.
I compete online as well and never had any issues.

DIY is way too technical for me, if you manage it, you will love it! Can highly recommend it

I've got the DOF Reality P3 (an H3 would do fine I'm sure as its their 'consumer' and cheaper model). I love my setup. I have just one suggestion if you end up selecting a DOF Reality rig, find a local welder to weld the vertical nut onto the crossbar below. The Yaw/Traction Loss puts a ton of torque on that piece and gets loose after a couple months even with Loctite.

Other than that, this setup is perfect when coupled with Sim Race Studio 2.x. I did buy a separate seat/chair and simple harness (safety first and all that) from Amazon. You don't really need it if unless you have the rig hella aggressive in every aspect.

The only other caveat when motion-sim-racing in GT7 is prepare for black screen with green bar flickering. This is something that isn't avoidable unfortunately. Anytime the game thinks your in-game head is leaving the cockpit (think, putting your head out the window), the screen will go black with green bars as you are outside the cockpit. It's not super common by and large, but if you are in the MP4/4 at the High Speed Ring or Daytona Oval you'll encounter it. What I had to do as a compromise is lessen the Sway maximum so that it doesn't tilt as much left/right to prevent it like 99.5% of the time. Some combos you just can't avoid it without having to lean inward. I wish PD would just let us extend outside this boundary, but I'm sure they will never fix this unfortunately.

These are two minor things imo, the first being an easy fix for a couple hundred bucks to never have to worry about it again (and it won't affect taking the rig apart either). The second one being a letdown, but only initially and now for me a very rare occurrence, but I also don't feel much Sway; some but not enough and this would happen no matter which rig you choose.

Again, don't let these two things stop you or make you second guess things, the pros VASTLY outweigh the cons. I just wanted to let you know ahead of time so you aren't as crushed/frustrated as I was when I found out. HTH!
