How has your time been with the GT Sport Beta?

Had an absolute blast with the beta but sadly my time was limited during the week due to the race schedule but during the weekend I was able to spend a lot more time with it.

I only ever racked up a single win on Dragon Trail but to be honest just taking part and having some real close racing at the back of the pack was more than good enough for me.

Had the great pleasure to Beta Test It & I Really enjoyed it. I looked forward to seeing what Daily Car I'd get when Logging on. I sadly never got to race as much in the Evenings when the Races were held due to work. But I'd always try be on at the Weekends. I went through 3 x T300's during the Beta so this disrupted my playing experience due to them breaking within a couple days/weeks of each other. But It's a huge step forward from the 1st Code to 1.08. I can see It's been valuable for PD to Include to stress test and for us to feedback exactly what we liked and didn't like and that feedback directly helped changed what we were going to play.

Time for a quick review.

It's by far the biggest evolution of the series. This is a new PD and it's a new direction which I must say looks promising. There were a lot of concerns that I feel are justifiable. The FFB in particular needs tweaking, and the relative smoothness of the track surface (some better than others) is a let down. The physics are more hit than miss, but still not as good as AC and probably PCARS 2. There is a sense of floatiness that still persists.

The SR/DR in my opinion works very well. This is my best online racing experience in open lobbies for racing games. So refreshing that the objective is rarely an overall win, but just climbing places from where you qualified. The format is very well thought of. You get a chance to set a time and the races are easy to join. It reminds me of GT5P which was the game I had the most fun in during the PS3 era. It is also a lot like how Driveclub handles online (just without the qualifying). The cars being arranged in groups is much better than the PP system. Some cars still need tweaking no doubt -- but overall, pretty decent.

It's visually stunning but with a few gripes. The shadow cascading issue while getting better, is still there (very apparent in Tokyo). The shadow/lod pop in of trees in some areas is jarring as well, and I'd like smoother transitions for LOD for the cars. Better AF would be great.

The new tracks are fine. Some better than others like Dragon Trail which is fantastic, and Blue Moon is so much fun. The issue is, would anyone rather have those than say Spa or whatever track gets cut? the answer is no.

The sounds are finally decent enough that your ears will stop bleeding. They've been getting better and better, and they are at the good enough stage for me.

The UI is sublime. Hoping for dynamic UI during the race like Horizon Zero Dawn.

As much fun as it is on track, this will be the best GT game off the track. Scapes look incredible and with a livery editor coming, many hours will be spent.

Overall, I'm very pleased that PD have released a beta (I stressed on the importance of this in an article) and from what I've seen -- this game could be something really special. Still some concerns but I'm so in.

Edit: 14K posts yaayyyyyy

I really enjoyed taking part on the whole. I think the SR system is a good thing but it needs to be refined a lot. There are still lots of people who either cant drive or deliberately drive dirty and I think the SR system needs to be better at determining who is at fault and applying fair penalties.

Some things I think need to be addressed are:
- both cars are penalised by way of a lowering of the SR when a side swipe style collision takes place, this is even if one car is driving on the edge of the track around a fast corner and the other car is alongside but gives no racing room and deliberately side swipes the first car off the track. There seems to be no concept of a requirement to give racing room at all.
- time penalties and lowering of SR seem to be given out for unsafe rejoins which is fair enough but there have been plenty of times when I have been almost up to racing speed (following a mistake) and have come back onto the racing line only to be hit by some other car not willing to go around or wait - and then I am hit with a penalty.
- swerving constantly and changing lines multiple times under braking before the turn in point should also be penalised just llike in F1.

Overall though great fun and works well. The problems definitely diminish as your SR goes up and you get to race others with a B rating.

"Are we racing or playing ping pong?"

That is my thoughts from the Beta after playing online and with the ratings system ...

Also disappointed on Physics side, tyre model, damage model, recycled world tracks... No dynamic time or climate...

Interesting. Connections were an issue at first, but it wasn't the case by the end. Were you able to test it the last few weeks?

Yup, for sure! And in the complete duration of the beta i don't get much clean races.
The rating system can't show a driver to have a good behaviour and racing etiquette...

The times I've seen making people in front of me doing zigzag so you can't pass them...(make one or two defence movement is OK, but if one is faster, let him pass, and try to follow and study your opponents..), lot's of divebomers..

So You get a good amount of negative rating just cause the fault of others.

I still prefer private lobbies and race with people that loves simracing, and knows racing etiquette..
Much cleaner races than the GT sport beta races..

Lets see how PD improve the online rating system and penalties for the final realese, but like I've said... That Don't gonna show people having a good racing etiquette...

And rating system will only work in Sport mode as PD said in the beta forum.. in normal Online we will be able only to put an minimum driver level requirement but the rating system don't gonna give or rest your points..

So,GT Sport for me is quite disappointing and Don't give me any reason to purchase the final realese...
Other sims incoming have more tracks, same amount of cars, better physics, damage model, tyre model, an online rating system in all online lobbies, personalised online championship mode and a huge career offline mode.
My choice is clear this time.

But i really would like to see a GT3 & GT4 in new gen with an online mode.

This incoming GT has lost to much of his "identity" for me sadly

I have fun with it. What I dont like is the car feels like floating when online races. I am sore loser so I always set TCS 2 while race online.

I unfortunately wasn't able to ply the beta, seeing as I don't have a PS4 and paying to play online is ridiculous.

GTS CBT wasnt requiring you a Plus subscription.

A lot of people misunderstood by the paying while playing online. And those people who suck about pay for playing online, they dont understand the value. What they know is only paying to play online, end of story.

That's fine but online mode will not be for me by contrast solo and photo mode make me wait for the final version of the game 👍

I was more like that than not. A much more solo experience for me. That said, I wasn't interested in being competitive. Seeing how online is structured, I'm more attracted to the idea of competing week-in, week-out.

I was thinking like that for the first months after its reveal. As more information released, the more optimistic I became. Sorry that isn't the case for you. Maybe some things will change after it releases.

I was far from impressed, I honestly found it to be a mix of very boring and pointless.

The driver rating system was flawed from the beginning.
The balance of performance was terrible and frustrating at the best of times.
The sounds while better than previous games are still a long way from being great

I honestly could not be bothered after the first week of getting an invite, Each subsequent update barely grabbed my attention enough to merit me trying it again, It did however cement my decision to buy PCars 2 as soon as possible 👍

Firstly I would like to say i love the series and I think this game will be more successful than it's predesscor however there is some features that others Sims all have that this game should have too but PD have made the right choice by trying to get feedback from the community look at PC 2 they listened to community and the second game is looking very good so I'm sure this game will be better when released. I have found that people have changed at the beginning their we're a lot more dirty driving than there was at the end not because of the SR rating because believe me there are dirty drivers in all classes but I noticed more clean driving. I will purchase this game even just to test it

I have some, but to you, what are some examples of features and content GTS should have? I like that notion. It's like they don't budge but have grown to be more open. I find it very admirable and frustrating. PD are the beez-neez.

Overall disappointed, the physics honestly seem to have gone backwards from the Copper Box, the car list is padded with a large number of varients on the same model, the track list is small and I'm not a fan of the fantasy tracks. Tracks may have been laser scanned, but they seem to have forgotten the track surface, the locked hand of God is appalling and the force feedback poor and innacurate.

The only area right now I see it as being ahead of the rest of the market is in terms of visuals.

I'm also of the opinion that it's not even a massive step ahead of DC in that regard, GTS may be 60fps (and it doesn't hit that consistently even on the PS4 Pro). DC may be 30fps, but it also manages dynamic time of day and weather, with far more detailed environments (note I am only comparing visuals here, before anyone sulks because I mentioned DC).

I'd take 60 fps over dynamic time and weather easily. I think 30fps is almost unplayable for a serious driving game. No matter how pretty it looks, DC is absolutely awful IMO

30fps games are far.. very far, from unplayable. They play just fine, and better than GT has in most instances. A game that has a fluctuating FPS is always going to play worse than a game that is locked, be it 30fps or 60fps.

You must of hated GT 5 then.
lol no I didnt, GT5 ran at unstable FPS but usually was far more than 30 fps, and on a much older and weaker machine. On the other hand DC runs on PS4, perfectly capable of doing 1080/60 without much trouble.

Goal posts on the move I see, and it was often high 30 when the pack got busy, with a frame rate that fluctuated from under 30 to 60. Hell PD patched out a load of trackside detail on a number of tracks to try and boost it.

Gran Turismo 5 isn't 1080p or 60fps

Oh and GTS doesn't keep a stable 60fps either, not even on a PS4 Pro, but you keep that head in the sand.

You can always go the PC route and turn your resolution way down to buff your FPS if that's all that matters to you, Bear in mind the higher the resolution the lower the FPS its a balancing act, Would you rather take a game at a stable 30FPS with all the features time/weather etc or a stable 60FPS with those features cut? AKA a pretty game but only half a game....

Will you still have to in the final release?

I only played the closed beta to try out the new cars and physics, so it was Arcade Mode only for me, and I tried a few Sport Mode races and screwed up badly.

What's also notable was there was this one race in Arcade Mode where I drove a Ford Mustang Gr. 4 and won the race, only to have me see my stalker's name in the race, as her digital version finished in seventh place and she drove an Alfa Romeo 4C Gr. 4.
