No, you don't own a Dodge Viper. No, that doesn't look like a Ferrari Enzo in your garage. I'd like to say that's a Lamborghini Murcielago, but I don't see anything there. People love sports cars, but don't have sports car money. Those are dream cars to many a GT fan. Gran Turismo 4 featured a wonderful array of automobiles, especially among daily drivers and non performance-oriented people. Who would have thought a Honda Odyssey or Honda Element be in GT4? How about a Dodge Ram 1500? You can say all you want about "get rid of these (car class)/(manufacturer) (model) and put in more sports cars." But at the end of the day, don't you want to ride in something that isn't so much of a pure racing machine? I claim to be driven by inspiration, so this thread comes up from inspirations from "Enthusia Professional Racing." This game has a HUGE number of cars ranging from everyday drivers to pure racing machines. EPR even features machines not found in GT4. Judging upon your thinking, this can mean "boring, insignificant, and otherwise boring cars" or "forshame on PD for passing this car up!" This was a GT4 discussion, now I'm asking the same question in a different way.

Just to give you an idea about everyday drivers and certain sports cars not found in GT4, here are a list of Free Run cars I've unlocked in my rental Enthusia:

Citroen Charleston* (think of the Classic Citroen in GT4.)
Subaru Young SS (think of the Subaru 360 in GT4.)
Austin Healey Sprite
Mitsubishi EK Wagon
Nissan Moco
Smart fortwo cabrio
Honda Civic RS* (think of the Classic Honda Civic 1500 3door 25i.)
Morris Mini Cooper 1275S MK1
Honda Mobilio
MG MGB
Toyota FunCargo
Toyota ist (think of the Scion xA.)
Toyota bB (think of the Scion xB.)
Mazda Savanna AP GT (think of the Mazda RX-3. Not in GT4.)
Opel Vita GSi
Alfa Romeo Alfa Spider Quadrifoglio Verde
Citroen DS 23 Pallas
Toyota Estima Hybrid
Fiat ABARTH 131 Rally
Toyota Land Cruiser 100

* = actually in GT4, but different name

Just to give you an idea about everyday drivers and certain sports cars not found in GT4, here are a list of Enthusia Life cars I've unlocked in Enthusia:

DeTomaso Pantera GTS^
Chevrolet Astro
Ford Mustang Mach 1^
Land Rover Range Rover
Toyota Alphard V
Toyota Corolla 1.8 Luxel (actually, a nicer-looking Corolla than what we get in the States.)

* = actually in GT4, but different name
^ = not found in GT4, not a daily driver

To many people, a combination of sports cars and daily drivers worked pretty well in GT4. If this trend continues, we may see many more automobiles of different kinds. All this will do is frustrate the ones looking for more sports cars. But for some others, it's a wonderful oppurtunity to ride the car of his/her dreams and come back to a daily driver in GT5 when they are done playing. Isn't that what we do anyways in GT4 or any other recent game? Only exception is probably games based on illegal street racing, since many of the cars are compacts many of us drive in real life and hop them up into dream cars. People usually tell me that they may never get to have sports cars in real life, so video games are the best portal to them. What about daily drivers? There are some daily drivers some people don't even want to get next to in real life. Doesn't stop some people from modding them up. GT has mostly been about general appreciation of cars whether you like them or not.

People just want daily drivers (and maybe some weekend toys) in a GT game, much less any other. How do you think the daily driver aspect should be in GT5 compared to GT4?

I dont think it should change too much, because some of the appeal of gran turismo is the fact that alot of the cars in the game you can relate to because you see them everyday and maybe own them yourself.

My philosiphy is as many DIFFERENT cars as possible. some i'd ike to see...

Chevrolet Beretta
Toyota Corolla/Sprinter/Chevrolet Nova AE82 Sedan (I own one.)
Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z (The REAL IROC-Z, not the concept) and Fox-body 5.0 Mustang
Chevrolet Caprice Pursuit
Ford Police Interceptor (Crown Vic)

While PD picked a number of interesting daily driver cars many of them were unrealistic for an american to buy. Also, they were not available in the USED car Garage were most economy cars would be. Why do people buy economy cars new? The warranty and good gas milage. Neither of those are very important in GT as of yet.

I think in many cases the daily drivers that do end up in GT are ones that the manufactuers are trying to push to the young crowds. Without adding ridiculus slow cars, there are many decent performing compacts, sedans, etc...

Mustang GT '95
Grand Prix
Cavalier RS
Fiero GT
Probe GT
Cougar
Marauder
Saturn SC2

Just a few of the cars I feel up to listing. This is not a wish list. Just examples of popular awesome not so super cars that were missing from GT4. If they are going to add daily drivers then I highly suggest they get the physics as correct as possible. It's one thing to have physics off when they are cars that you will never drive. It's abit different when people are able to compare the cars directly with what they own.

i'd rather have a 4-door '70 ford torino 302 than a ford gt or saleen s7, still sports cars are cool and all, but i want more vans too, ford windstar, dodge caravan (imagine driving one of those around the 'ring), not silly honda life step vans (no offense) and such.

That's all i Have To Say,

From,
The Wall...Runner!

I don't think the formula should change too much, as much as I love sports cars, I'd like to buy an Odyssey in GT4 to see how much I can tune it. Those daily drivers can stay, all I ask of PD (and I'm begging them) DO NOT FORCE ME TO RACE THEM. I've HAD IT with the majority of one-make races, I'll race the Speedster Cup or the Race of the Red Emblem, but I don't want to race a Subaru 360 very much. I have to be in the right mood to enjoy those < 100HP cars, and forcing them upon me for completion doesn't get me in a good mood. But the main appeal of the daily drivers is that we can take the cars that we have driven, and that we might even own to see how the can perform in track conditions and against other cars. It's a way to connect with the game, they've included cars that we are actually familiar with, not just ones we've dreamt of.

I definately agree. It's fun to tune more normal cars because there is more to personalize. Ford GTs and Ferraris are already super and there is nothing to do to them. It's also fun to tune them in photoshop as well, but like I said, Faster cars are harder to tune.

-> I think supercars and exotics are fun in a certain way, but I found that everyday production cars are far more fun than cars that costs USD$60,000 and above. I see on the previous post regarding cars that are less than 100hp, I don't mind about super-slow cars in GT, as long they have to recategorize cars by classes (like Class E, D, C, B, A, S, SS, and R). Or restrict cars that are lower than 50hp on large or high elevation tracks (like Nurb, Cita De Aria, and Grand Valley) to prevent cars (like the 1898 Daimler car) from going backwards while you're stepping on the gas pedal. (:

3-Wheel Drive
Well, I still prefer sports cars and supercars, but I will always have a place for a few daily drivers in my garages.
Yep, we still have to have faster cars, because isn't the point of a simulation to do what you couldn't normally do? I just think games like PGR3 are definately too focused on supercars to pass for a GT game.

GT is on the right way.

One day I'll want to drive a 600HP
Other day I'll want to spend 20 minutes in nurb with an economical vehicle.

I like it.

More cars, please.

More daily driver sports cars, please, indeed. I love taking a Tiburon or Celica around the track, or the Supra, 240SX, or RX-7. Unmodified, lightly modded, or horsepower boosted almost 100bhp. I love to take sports cars as they are and see how they compare and compete.

I would probably say that many seemed a bit flustered that cars like the Nissan Altima, Nissan Maxima, and such were missing in GT4. I applaud each of you for your comments here. This is the attitude I'm trying to convey. Sports cars are fun, but it's okay to dial things down once in a while. Even I B-Specced the Midget D-Type race event. I probably fear that I'd lose too easily. I think I remember my high-speed in GT2 with those was 76 mph with a lot of tuning. It was the slowest race in history and from my GT experience. But at least you aren't forced to race stuff like Nürburgring Nordschleife with these cars (imagine how many people would groan over this). For those of you to have a PS2, pick up "Enthusia Professional Racing" or rent it from a game store. I suggest clearing as many Driving Revolution events so you can unlock every "E" and "D" class vehicle. You get to see what this game has to offer in terms of daily drivers available for competitive racing. Some incredibly lack power while others are pretty top-heavy and not very sporty. I was sort of impressed with the Toyota Estima Hybrid as I was able to win in a hybrid car race in Enthusia. Another Toyota was the Alphard V. It was pretty big and not bad at handling. Maybe the coolest van (and most unusual was the Chevrolet Astro). That's right. All 350hp of all-American van. Spike TV show "Horsepower TV" did a show when they hopped up an Astro van to pump some good power. It was white, so they informally called it a refridgerator. Ha!

Care to continue? You can.

well, I certainly don't want more minivans. and I don't really want more SUV's. and I don't want to have to race them.(this why I suggest more OPEN race series') but I want my car. and you want your car. he wants his car. we deserve our cars (and vans & suvs)
Hell, I want your car, and his car, and I wanna race them, so I can see if my car is faster.
Bring on the maximas, grand prixs, fieros, cobalts, corollas, 320s, altimas, grand ams(duh) and the whole lot of 'em!

I seel a lot of the complaints are about the tiny two-strokers. Let's think about this. We're complaining about cars that are...well, they make up less then 5% of the game. and, to tell the truth, I do like the little guys, myself, if I can modify them. (especially if that modification includes a racing transmision.) I love the little (WR Blue for me) Subaru 360, which is a challenge to handle with unusual drifting habits. (Which is accurate...Consumer Reports bashed the little guy for that.)

There are many other "K"-class cars, with less than 100 starting HP, but can be modifeid into the high 100s, and blast around 225-275hp sports coupes. I love it when I blast down a straight in a Suzukisport Alto Works, and halfway down the backstretch is a bone-stock Subaru STI SpecC.

Still, I think the American and European used markets need a bit more representation. GT4 was a step in the right direction, but getting rid of a few JDM Skyline, RX-7 and Civic re-dos (HINT: one SiRII will do, thanks) might make a bit more room for a '98 Grand Prix GTP, or a Fiero GT, or a Probe GT, or Beretta Z26, or AE82 Nova. (I'm gonna push for that last one with everything i've got.)

I want to be a fox!! :D

Anyway, you don't need to get rid of anything. Just keep adding stuff in. I have to say that I'm one of the guys who does have a bias towards cars which will actually go when I mash the pedal. But true cars. The Probe GT, MX-5, Fiero GT. Not trucks, minivans, SUVs, pocket cars like the 360.

But like I say, don't take those guys out. I'll still race them. I won't enjoy it at all, but if Kaz-sama and the team think it's worth their time to include it, I'll honor them at least by taking them around the track.

I'd love the car selection in GT5 to be even broader than GT4. Add more historical cars, more muscle cars, more of everything. Nothing should be taken away, except maybe a few R34 Skylines.

I find that thrashing the most out of a reasonably fast daily driver like a 350Z or BMW is more satisfying than driving a race tuned car.

-> I think to get more of those types of cars, I think PD should have a sattelite offices in Europe, US, Brazil, Austrailia and Asia to conjure up most of this cars and test this type of cars in sequence while developing of future GT's.

i really like the way PD has mixed the cars in the game. with such everyday cars you can relate and you get a better feeling of the speed and power as you change from your 100PS vehicle to a 800PS gt-car.

It's not so much get rid of them as it is add more sports cars. One could argue that sports cars are not realistic cars to have, as many people couldn't afford them... However this goes hand in hand with adding performance upgrades to all of these daily drivers. The point of reality is valid if the cars are kept stock, but once you've spent 50 000+ on a stage 4 turbo kit and racing suspenssion that goes right out the window. As your 20 000 Tiburon has now just become a 70 000+ beast and nbot very realistic. One could also argue that the reality issue also goes out the window when we consider that sheer number of cars in most people's garages. 100+ cars of any pedegree is not very realistic for anyone either. The fact of the matter is that this is a game made to play on people's fantasies. Like chubby women, these cars may appeal to some, but in the end most people will be fantasizing about the Carmen Electras. Further more, until there are more races in place, or the ability to make spot races, most of the smaller cars have little or no place in a game that features so many cars and races that can and do easily overwhelm these cars.

In order to get people into these cars, PD must do four simple things:

1. Have more races that feature them.
2. Have spot races allowing you to make your own racing grids.
3. Have full racing mods to get these cars up to a decent competitive level.
4. Bring back HP restrictions allowing these cars to compete on an even field.

Until these things are done, they're nice to have. They're fun to race with the guys... Just not as fun as the F1s, DTMs, and upper class models like the Skylines, NSXs, and various other cars of the like...

Here are a list of different companies who would have some nice daily driver models to showcase (requirement: companies with at least one appearance in a GT game):

Hyundai
Seat
Toyota
Nissan
Volkswagen
Vauxhall and Opel
Volvo
Mercedes-Benz (well, used ones from before 1996 at least)
Daihatsu
Honda
Isuzu
Suzuki
Mitsubishi
Holden
Ford Australia

These are only a few of existing companies with some models that would have some nice daily drivers. Some Utes on the Australian side would be nice suggestions, even some of Brazil's Utes. What's that Chevy you Europeans have in FIA Touring Car? Is it the Lacetti? This any good as a daily driver? We don't want to think of such cars because we all care about the pure sports-bred cars. This means everything from a Kei car to a sports sedan. I tend to think of sports sedans as some of the sportiest (no pun intended) daily drivers out there.

A number of cars not in a GT game would be nice in terms of daily drivers. In fact, I was thinking about maybe seeing Proton in the game. Proton is a Malaysian manufacturer that can be seen in the British Touring Car Championship outside of Asia. They also have a motorcycle racing program as their Proton KR (would be nice for Tourist Trophy's sequel) is a nice four-stroke motorcycle. You can read more about their motorcycle racing efforts at: { http://www.teamkr.com }.

India's debut into a GT would be made by Indian car company, Tata ( http://www.tatamotors.com/ ). One of their models is the Tata Indica V2, which sort of looks like a late 1990s Honda Civic hatchback. I heard this is a diesel-powered automobile. The Indica V2 comes in three different grades: the base Indica V2, the Indica V2 Turbo, and the top-of-the-line Indica V2 Xeta. They have the wonderful Indigo lineup which is just as refreshing of an automobile.

The stuff I've mentioned offers up more daily driver-spec cars for us and also gives us a little more international appeal. You like? You dig? Keep it moving!

That Xeta looks pretty nice... I've already seen the Proton cars, they look kind of neat as well, only that the sites never tell you that kind of drivetrain they are... I'm wishing for FR, but something make me suspect otherwise...

The thing is you see so many supercars represented in so many games, and not enough showcase the everyday vehicles. Thus, when the everyday vehicles are made in a game such as GT4, they are actually interesting because its cool to see what they would look like in video game form.

Overall, I'm mixed on the idea...

Pros:

Many American teenagers drivers learn to drive or inherit their parent's cars as their first cars. Something mundane like a 4-cylinder Toyota Camry, Ford Taurus, Chevrolet Malibus and Luminas, and other cars that are quite everyday and not engineered for track use.

My favorite aspect of GT is tuning a car that isn't an exotic car into something that can challenge some of the best cars, or racing cars. Taking a daily driver into the "fantasy world" of racing against supercars and the like is what a video game is all about. It's quite a lot of fun, and there's a lot more pride in winning a race with a car that appears to have no hope of doing so.

Diversity and change; for some of us, the sea of GT-Rs, Silvias, NSXs, RX-7s is wearing a tad thin.

Cons:

There's a lot of countries in the world that have their own versions of the "daily driver". Add everyday cars from 10 other popular GT-playing nations (save Japan...lots of different cars available in GT4), and you'll wind up with a whole lot of average, everyday cars in the game.

More people whining about that their car is still missing from the game.

In all honesty. buy the legal use of Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini and im not quite looking for older cars. nothing older than 50's machines.

the tracks are a bit long in general for slow cars.

Dont get me wrong, id love a 64' Impala with a 3xx engine.

I dont care to see a toyota carola. or solara.

but a honda civic is a staple, its been tuned and tuned well.

-> As I add more and more cars in the GT5 Wishlist, I love GT as they respect lesser cars that are less than 150hp. Who cares if people keeps on whining K-Class cars being too slow, I think PD should alieviate that by creating a lot more smaller tracks (like Autumn Ring Mini, Motorland Road Course, and Motor Sport Land). I think while adding small cars in GT5 why not add smaller tracks too. (:
