Hey all,

I was wondering how long you all practice drifting? I'm not sure if there was a thread here that already talked about this but oh well.

Nick:banghead:

That is a really good question, i was wondering my self how long did Someone like Cudaman Practiced b4 they were considered Drift gods by other members

lol... but were you godlike... everyone has room for imporovement... you are good lan evo... very good...

right now i am trying to 4 wheel in my races with lower powered cars than the comp... and that is taking me about two weeks sofar to be able to win in mr prof with speedster... and the am gt champs... but i can still go faster... i took a lil break this week from PS2 and now my drifting skills have declined a bit... so i would suggest everyday for at least an hour to get good... a couple laps around your practice track should do the trick.... more hours in the beginning of course

i have been drifting since i like.... beginning of last school year... so almost a year now... and i drift every car in my garage except my vitz and spoon civic... the only ff i have

Hey bengee how old are You? if u dont mind my asking, And you Drift in Races? wow i have so much to learn because even with a 716 hp mustang i have Cars pass me in the clubman cup ssr5 while im trying to drift, you must also be god like lol

lol me godlike... hardly... lol...

i am almost 21... you can click on my name and see what you wanna see...

well the thing is its not exhibition drift... if you wanna learn more about what i do and what another fellow pergatory does... or at least tries to do go to drift faster than grip and read up...

anyways when i want to go really fast i use t8's... but when consistency is more impotant than fast laps... t2's are what i use... or t3's... sets you back a couple of seconds each lap like 5 i think... but as long as you are not loosing more than a second a lap to the fastest car... you can win... some people might think that winning by them pitting is a loss... but i have been running the pro mr and that dam gt40 is hella fast... in my 350 hp speedster on t2's i only loose a second to it... and can only win by it pitting... but i only run the tires to yellow... so maybe i can gain few seconds by using slightly more grippy tires and then bam real win lol...

for exhibition i use either slicks or sims... i prefer sims just because they are more versatile.. i am prolly a bit rusty at them tho... havent played with my drifters for a while... working hard just to go as fast as i can...

oh an BTW i am not nearly the fastest person on GTP no way... i just started trying to get fast like this month... well i have been fooling around with the idea since i started to drift after i got bored with beating the game with really fast cars int he staights...

infact i have lowered my speedsters top speed to 150 for pro and 140 for below pro... i find that i can get faster corner times if i do this even if my overall lap will be slower...

so to make myself clear... i wish i was godlike but i have a long ways to go

sorry its so long... beginning to be a bad habit lol... i just dont wanna clean my apt...

lol ever since i got my first RX-7 FD in GT3, i started drifting. I was one of those people who thought any form of drifting is faster than grip, but i was sadly mistaken when i raced against the German touring cars lol. I kept up pretty well tho. I was a complete noob back then. Eventually i found this site and used Cuda's setup. took me like 1 day to get used to the car and the 2nd day i could drift the complex string w/o problems. =P

I've been drifting in GT3 for almost 3 years now. I have the potential to be godly, I can do anything in the car, but I always just fool around when drifting. Before I started playing Live For Speed my skills were peak, I could take anyone here I bet. Drifting in LFS threw off my dirfting in GT3

post got cut off by accident.

So drifting in LFS messed up my drifting in GT3 and I had to learn all over again. I've got my skills back now but I'm not as good as I used to be. Once I setup this new car I'm gonna start practicing alot and taking it more serious instead of just fooling around. I just restarted my GT3 game so I've had to start all over. I will be back though, and I will be the best:D

5 days is more than enough for slick tire drifting. but i don't know if i'd consider Super-Supra a "master". i don't even consider myself a master...i'm still learning...but i am better than a lot of people.

That's not what I meant. He said he's a master and it only took him 5 days. I doubt he got to be one of the best in just 5 days.

I think you understood it as I meant he was able to successfully drift with 5 days of practice.

Those who talk so big often lack in refinement. Instead of posting this forum talking about how great you are, consider that everyone here sees right through your talk. The question is, do you? Or are you in denial?

The true answer is that nobody here is a master. If they were, everyone would know it, because nobody here is even close. Me, Cuda, bengee, and all the other good drifters on this forum will admit that we have a lot to learn.

If you consider yourself a master, then you've set your sights too low, and probably don't even know true drifting. Even in real life there is only one man that everyone agrees has achieved that level. One man out of 7 billion. Who are you to call yourself a master? Sorry if this comes off harsh but, I find that sometimes it's necessary to make a point. I'm not judging you, I'm just offering my point of view.

I drifted like 10 minutes my first time, 40 minutes the second time, maybe an hour the next couple of times, then like 20 minutes a day of drifting ever since, and I can drift everything effortlessly/flawlessly EXCEPT!!!! A Stock Mr2

i'm only drifting now for 3-4 months, but i drift during any spare time in my day...anytime i'm sat in my room with nothing to do i fire up the drifters...i usually use mediums on front and slicks or sims on back...makes my lap times way faster :)

i usually drift for around 2-3 hours a day...and i think i'm getting pretty good at it, being able to pull some good lap times. when i practice i usually pick one car and one track, which is usually tokyo R246, and i stay there for like 20-30 consectutive laps...and by that time, i know the car inside and out. i'm definitely not the best on here, and that theres lots of room to improve. i started learning 4 wheel drifting almost right away, so that's pretty much all i do...exhibition drift isn't hard once you know how to 4-wheel... i can drift any mr, fr, or 4wd. ass-draggin a FF isn't near as fun so i do't do it...

here's me a month ago, drifting some of my cars...i'm much better now ;)

I started wondering this myself after watching some of pergatory's videos and a few embarrassing tries to drift myself. I think it's unbelievable hard and I respect these "Drift Gods" very very much.
I guess I have to just keep trying. A few minutes/day is better than nothing and I just might learn the technique in a year or so... :)

I've been drifting a bit since GT1, but only seriously (playing with setups etcetera) sincs a month or so. And this site is really helping me a lot

I bought the PS2 and the GT3 last christmas, I liked the "touch" of the 4WD's without ASM and TCS. Then surfing the net I saw CudaMan's vid's (february more or less), I practiced a lot with 4WD but at that time I still wasn't able to stand FR. By chance I changed the LSD of a 200SX type-X in March and I started drifting with FRs.

What?? Practice?? 4-6 hours drifting evry week and 2 more of grip racing.

me just weekends and monday coz i have no classes maybe just 2 - 5 hours will make me improve a bit and yet im drifting like te pros here in gtplanet he he he

4-5 hours... mostly just messing around on the weekends... now since i love my new car to death ( S14 ) and figured out how to get better quality video's i might start recording mass video's...

i dont pratice ethier to me its more of messing around and explorering my diffrent drifts styles i have like 6 of them.

GT3 drifting is an everyday thang for me... started drifting in July '03... I practice continuously.. there are so much to do.. busy exploting FR with sims now (i know... a bit delayed:lol: ).. but hey.. I'm loving every minute of it...

ive been drifting since GT2, but back then i didnt know what it was, my cars didnt have TCS so i just let them slide through the turns and eventually i just did that with every race.....
then i got my ps2 and GT3 and still had no idea about drifting, i remember having an ATRA NSX and i took the tcs off so i could do burnouts...i realised my car slid again, so i went with a month or so of grip racing.
then i started to e-brake my 10024hp R34 around midfield and i got pretty good at it, yet i couldnt keep the car sliding.
so i moved back to my ATRA nsx and on the huge turn before the straight on complex string i started drifting without even knowing it.. i came into the corner full speed, and back then i thought that slamming the car into reverse as i was sliding helped keep it sliding....
anyways, cut to 5 months forward and now i can drift almost anything in the game, let alone every track...
sims, slicks, normals i got it all dialed down, i can do just a good a drift with a pair of sims on a stock FD as i can with a pair of slicks on my spoon s2k.
although i know i will be doubted, and not belived untill i get some kind of video up in here....4wheel drifts are a normal thing for me, ive mastered and conquered them, in tracks like trial mountain, deep forest, midfieldII i dont even countersteer...
im getting bored of drifting in GT3 since i feel i have completed every challenge i set out for myself, so now im renting other racing games to see what they can do for me.....
untill GT4 comes out.....ill just keep on drifting the same old same old...
so to answer your question, i gues i never did practise, it was just always there...

peace
