Yeah, if you or your spotter can't control the weight, you can mess your shoulders pretty bad. I dropped too fast and popped my shoulders. Sore for a few days.

YOU should be the one controlling the weight. Your spotter is just there for emergencies. If you're dropping weight on yourself, you need to lift lighter.

Saw a great video of a dude doing bench press. His story was basically walking into a gym. To the right is a guy of moderate build press an extreme amount of weight. To the left is a guy that is well defined, built, and ripped but he was only doing a light weight. It was then he realized that heavyweight was not synonymous to building muscle. Being a professional body building trainer, his program involves lighter weight, a slow rep to the chest where you hold it for 3 seconds, then push to the top and flex for three seconds then repeat for reps of 8-10. You want to keep your arm pits at a 90 degree, and your arms perpendicular to your torso. I damaged my left shoulder doing too heavy of reps so I have started taking this lighter approach with good results. I was hoping that someday I could return to heavier weight, but I am realizing that I may never go back to the heavy weight...

So, it's basically a lift mixed with isometrics. That's pretty cool. Does he do a plyometric explosion at the upwards push? Fast-twitch muscles are a pain in the ass to train.

Nope, steady even pushes. It's the three second count at the bottom and the 3 second flex/count at the top that destroys you. At a moderate pace, I can easily press 230 3 sets of 10. When I do this slower workout, I have to drop to 185-195 or I just can't get all the reps. I'm generally more sore and pumped from the lighter weight workout.

I see a lot of kids who struggle with the weight but go really fast.

It's like there's a small line between too much weight and too light.

I always do my lifts slow but not like that. That sounds really good though.

What do you guys incline press? I'm a lot better at inclines than benches.

i can bench 5000lbs with my 20 inch penis.
Wow, everything really is bigger in Texas.

I haven't benched anything for a while. When I was 14, I could bench about 100 pounds with my scrawny, pubescent body. I'm much stronger now, so who knows. I don't really fancy spending money to go the gym (I prefer free exercise), so I guess we'll never know :).

Ooooo Benching yea....errrr...not alot heh, I do work out with other types of machines but I realy dont like benching much.

But the most ive benched is 95...once. I'm not to good at it (like keeping the bar even). I'd rather press, were it is autimaticly even:sly:.I usualy do 10 reps of 100 lbs,and my max is 120.I know that isnt benching but ohh well, I realy dont want to bench,I heard it can stunt your height and im only 5'10"ish.

But luckily tommarow at school I get to do the weight room in gym..YAY!!:)
So i'll try and find out.

Soo...

Age-15
Height-5'10"ish
Bench-95

Still growing!!
And I know I'm stronger since the last time ive benched so I probably can do more now.:)

UPDATE:

5'7 or 5'8
215 lbs

I've been running a mile or two a day since my last post. I dropped down to about 170lbs then I started weight training along with the running.

Bench: 245lbs. I've been doing 2 sets of 20 reps. Next week back to low rep, high weight.

Squat: 460lbs. Not that much better than last time.

Hip Sled: 1100lbs... I think I did 2 reps?

Dead Lift: 360lbs.

Wow... I guess I have gone up quite a bit for 4 months of lifting Mon-Fri.

I have a goal: Over 300lbs on bench before football season and over 500lbs on squat before football season.

My best result is 70 kilos (Whatever that is in pounds?). It may not be much, but I'm pretty happy with myself, because I whey less than 70 kg... :indiff:

Hah. I forgot I said that. I think I was trying to make a point about we should take these numbers with a grain of salt seeing as it's over the internet.

But in seriousness, I bench max one time 210. I'm 6'3, 175lbs.

75-85 .lbs is way too easy for an average 16 year old. You should start with at least 100 .lbs . I can do 125 without a problem. 135 I believe is my max out.

I'm not the average 16 yr old. I'm only 5'6" 115 with my shoes on. So i'm happy with that amount. Anyway i started goin to the gym 2 weeks ago and I can bench 115 lbs on my 5th set ( 6 reps ). I plan to keep working out so it'll get better as i go along.

age - 14 (15 in like a month)/Freshman

height - 5' 6"

weight - 112-115 (usually somewhere around there)

bench - 160 got it today

if im this weight sophmore year ill take the bench record for my weight class (114) in weight training the record is like 180 now but this fez kid is probably gonna get somewhere around 190-195 next max-outs

Just to update, kind of surprised myself this week.... I pressed 295lbs for 6 reps. The first 3 were by myself and the second 3 were with 2 finger spots from my spotter. I think I could have done all 6 reps by myself had I tried that set earlier in the workout when I had more energy. Anyways, felt pretty good about it.

I have no idea were my one rep max is at right now.... I'll give it another month or so before I try that.

weight: Id guess in the 200+ range
Height: Only 5'7". I haven't grown for a while due to bad eating habits and a slow metabolism
age: 15
bench: I usually do 10 reps of 115. I don't usually try 135 but the last time i did, i could only do it twice.

I think I'm done with the heavy reps for a while, but yesterday I managed to get a 5 rep set of 300lbs. + a 6th rep with my spotters help.

I feel like a weakling now. lol

Age: 16
Weight: 130
Height: 5'7"
Bench: 6 or 7 reps of 105 lbs I haven't maxed out yet.

But, I sort of have an excuse since I just started lifting a few weeks ago. I thought i was going to be better at it than that. Anyways, I've heard building up your triceps help increase your bench weight. So, I'm currently working on that. But I love lifting, and I can't wait to get better!

Well, hard to measure growth as I haven't been documenting this routine very well, but yesterday my bench reps and weight were as follows in pounds:

20x135 (warmup)
12x225
8x275 (spot on 7&8)
2x315
7x225 (slow, stalled for 3 count reps at the top and bottom, spot on 7)
10x225

I followed this with 100lb Dumb Bell presses. 3 sets of 6-8 reps.

Needless to day, my chest feels really fatigued today.

I really want to start seeing how much I can bench (Not on chest-press machine) but my mates always chicken out of goin in the weights room :grumpy:

Press-ups it is for now.

weight: 208lbs
height: 5'7"... still :grumpy:
age: 16

I had gotten back into the bench press, jogging, and doing curls, but like always, i stopped. The last time i benched my max was 135 6 times, which made me feel pretty good, though that is very far from anything big. I definately have to start up again and atleast get to 200
