I've recently spent quite a lot of money on this one game, despite the initially modest initial investment of *looks up eBay records* of $58 AUD.

Ignoring the $400-$500 bucks I spent on the console in the first place (I'm not sure if this can be counted as part of the cost of this 'one game' so I've excluded it, besides, I can't recall what I spent since I traded in a 360 for a PS3) I've spent an additional;

$058 - Gran Turismo 5
$125 - Logitech Driving Force GT (Like New)
$021 - DLC
$381 - Racing Office Chair + 5 Locking Castor Wheels
$084 - 320GB 7200rpm 2.5 HDD

$669 AUD

That's a fair chunk, for some peripherals, a console upgrade, and a bit of DLC for the game, and I know people have spent much more on full on cockpits, and more expensive wheels, and even separate shifters, ect, so I was curious to see if we could discover what the average person here has spent on items specifically designed to improve the performance of Gran Turismo 5.

I think it'll be about $1000. I don't think it'll be easy to use multiple currencies in a poll, so let's all convert to USD based on today's value (see http://www.xe.com/ucc/ ).

So I spent $723 USD at time of writing.

So how much have you spent? Probably best to include any plans you have for immediate purchases when you vote (and hopefully post as well).

In Aussie Dollars...
GT5 = $77
Logitech G25 = $380
PS3 160GB Slim = $420
DIY Racing Rig = $200
DLC = $40

$1177!!! wow.

Let's see..
105 collectors edition.
400 for g27 wheel.
40 for GT5 XL to replace game in collectors edition box.
30 for DLC.

So I think 575$ unless you want to add on the extra ps3 I had to buy after mine crapped out from playing so much, and the huge tv and surround sound setup I bought to totally seclude myself in the world of GT5! That would bring me up too 1675$ but I don't think the second half REALLY counts, lol.

£50 - GT5 CE.
£250 - new PS3 after my old one YLOD'd after 3 hours of GT5 on the day of release...
£30 - New DFP because I felt like it
£20 - MX-5 seat
£25 - timber to mount said seat on.

In a week or two I'm going to be buying a load of aluminium extrusion to build a cockpit, too, primarily for GT5 but also for the multitude of PC sims and games I've got, but that won't be too cheap.

In summary, I've spent quite a bit so far with more to come, I'd guess and say it'll come to £500. A mate of mine, though, bought a new £1,000 PC because he wanted to play Minecraft and his laptop couldn't handle it...

40 on the game
210 on replacement PS3
10 on first DLC
30 to replaced scratched disc
4.** on 2nd car pack
6.** on 3rd car pack and speed test track

Roughly 300 quid.

€85 - GT5 CE
€400 - Fatty PS3
€820 - Philips 42' led TV
€35 - DLC
€60 - PS3 Headset
€220 - Yamaha Home Cinema System

Total of: €1620... More than I thought... :P

FFS! Do you have no self-control?:yuck:

That's a ludicrous amount of money to spend, theoretically, on a game.:ill:

I'm going to use Danish currency just to get really high numbers :).

650DKK on the Collectors edition.
2000DKK on a Logitech G27.
4000DKK on a Playseat WRC + gearshift holder. Add to that another 500 for shipping and currency conversion.
200DKK on all the DLC's I believe.

So 7350DKK in total :scared:. That's 1.331 US dollars.

I won't include the money I spend on my Phillips 42 inch Full HD TV, My Sony 5.1 Surround and my PS3.

Too much, :D If I divided total # of hours played by cost it justifies itself.

^snap!

although with the exception of my steering wheel, everything else was justified and paid for with other games whilst waiting for GT5 to be released.

GT5 has cost me:
€360 G27
€360 32" HD TV and HD cable
€100 home made driving rig
€360 PS3
€60 GT5
€20 usb back-up thumbstick
€50 petrol for the car while shopping for all the stuff
Plus some money for upgrade to my broadband.

So over €1300. Bargain.
Cheaper than ten trackdays, half the price of a trip to the 'ring with a rented track car.

I dont bought my PS3, TV, etc only for GT5 so i will Not count it. I use them for movies, etc. Too

But i bought the Forza Motorsport CSR Elite Wheel for Forza, GT and a New Racing Seat.
And some other stuff...

I votet 1000$-2500$

yeah guys, please try to remember to convert it to USD currency please? euros and pounds are all well and good, but to get a feel for it, its best to have everyone on USD.

xe.com/ucc - thats all you need

$105 - GT5 (later to be replaced by the SE)
$325 - GT5 Signature Edition
$580 - G27 wheel
$35+ - DLC (bought multiple paint DLC, and 1 of the others)
$450 - Z906 surround system (because GT5 with a normal TV sound is awful)
$35 - Optical cable for the Z906 to the PS3
$110 - New HDMI cable, as the old one couldn't handle it

Yes, Norway is expensive!!!

So a total of $1640 +++ :crazy:

And I agree with this:
Too much, :D If I divided total # of hours played by cost it justifies itself.

In Japanese yen converted to American dollars the result will be like this below. let's see...

GT5 = $93(7,500 JP yen)
GT force(wheel) = $50(4,000)
(Haven't got any of the exclusive DLCs for GT5 or other extra equipments)

total amount = $143.(11,500)

Despite quite a large expense on a single game, it looks like my spending is far less than other people who also made a purchase of all the downloading contents, cable and more quality wheels etc.

2x4's: $10
2 sheet's of MDF: $20
1 sheet of Plywood:$20

Playstation 3: $299

Countless hours playing GT5: PRICELESS!!!!

If GT5 was complete when it was released (only 20% of the cars were premium) then I would have actually purchased the game for $59.99. But since it wasnt.... GT5 ended up being a christmas gift from my mother in law. At this point I have spent $0.00 on GT5. 👍

Yeah, a huge amount of enjoyment in exchange of painful cost is indeed irreplaceable. ;) Now you've already got a set to have fun without difficulty or patience.

PS3 buy'ed for GT5 - 490 Euros (brand new in my country 4 years ago)
GT5 - 50 Euros (in my country, brand new)
G27 - 160 Euros (in my country, brand new)
Tools and stuff for home made cockpit - 20 Euros

Total - 670 Euros! wow...

If it would be 671 I wouldn't do it! :)

I forgot to mention I buy new HD TV because of PS3, and PS3 because of GT5.. damn this game means to me so much..

GT5 £40
Logitech DFGT £80
Wheelstand Pro £90
Xrocker Gaming Chair £100
47" LG 3D led TV (so I could play this game in 3d!) £899
Just started off with the game and it went on from there, all I know is I have spent far too much. Is it worth it, Hell Yeah!!

Fat PS3 + GT5 Prologue + Logitech Driving Force Pro + HDMI cable.

Then GT5 came out. (bought another HDMI cable because old one wouldn't work with 1080p)

Then my fat PS3's optical drive went belly up. -> New PS3

Then my wheel gave up (down-shift switch wouldn't work anymore after countless hours/days/months/years of playing) -> New Driving Force GT

All DLC.

I think I'm just below €1.000.

All prices in Australian Shekels

1x Signature Edition = $295
1x Regular Edition (second hand) = $30
1x 22" LED TV = $225
1x DFGT = $119
1x Second PS3 = $200
1x Supplies Purchase for recent 24hr online= $85
3x DLC = $45 (I think)

Plus PS3 expenses:

1x Upgrade to 750gb + Clean = $275
1x Repair after laser died = $300

Total = $1,574 :crazy:

This does not include the $1,000.00 I paid for my release day "fatty"...

Aye! Although I bought a PS3 specifically to play GT5 Prologue then when the full game came out I spent a grand or so on a 37" Sony LCD that did 1080p which probably adds up to the best part of £1500:ouch:
