How much longer until Blockbuster goes out of business?

Er... I'm aware of the news that happened today that caused this thread to get bumped from 2010.

I use Netflix for stream & older releases, Red Box for new releases.

Same here. My family abuses Netflix streaming and there are at least two Redboxes within 2 miles of my house that you can check the inventory of online before you go. 👍

The one store near me closed earlier in the year after going into administration. And until now it still appeared to be shut, when in fact it's been open for business again for at least a few months. Turned out it was one of 264 stores in the UK that were bought by a restructuring firm back in March.

I can't remember the last time myself or anyone I know used their service in town. More than a decade at least.

Me too. The local store folded up years ago.

Not surprised, seemed like a terrible company. I had a friend that worked there during college. Long hours and low pay. The company was quite stingy too, on the rare occasion he did get a raise, it would be like 3 cents an hour.

I remember the last time I was there, the guy at the counter was so surly and refused to let me rent a movie using my drivers license, and insisted I apply a Blockbuster card. (even though I used to rent games/movies using a speeding ticket )

After less than a year being propped up by insolvency practitioners, they're poised to pull the plug for good in the UK before then end of this month.
