How not to lose car?

Hello,
I am trying to find out how to "save the car" when it loses grip. It happens to me very often that I slide only a little bit but instead of stabilise the car I completely lose it. I am OK, have time, but I only see how the car goes on its own until it crashes. Instead of losing a second i lose the whole race.

Another example — someone hits me in a race a bit. Not much but i completely lose the car and the race. I feel very unsafe in races which leads to situations where I have best qualifying time but I finish the race among the last.

I simply do not know what to do when car loses stability, even just a little. Can someone explain me how to handle that?

Thanks.

There’s no one answer - I think you’re talking about oversteer though?

Number one - don’t brake. The tyres have already lost traction - locking them won’t help.

Two - off the throttle

Three - to prevent it, apply the throttle gradually or try a higher gear. You may want to use 2nd on braking and entry, but before you get to the acceleration phase of the corner, upchange to 3rd then start accelerating.

I am talking about losing traction.

"Don't brake" seems to be a good hint. I go out of gas but not sure what i am doing with breake pedal.

Prevent is OK on my side but I am usually completely lost after some slide/hit happens.

Are you using a controller or wheel?

Are you using any driver aids?

Have you turned off the in game music?

Traction is a fairly simple thing in that you are asking too much for the available grip. What this means is typically trying to do

1. Too many things at once like brake/accelerate and turn at the same time. The amount grip available is finite and you typically trade grip for speed or angle.

2. Being to aggressive with your inputs and treating them like switches and it's that sharpness trying to brake instantly full power or accelerate instantly with full throttle.

This is what the term "being smooth" really means, you'll find the car more stable if you are able to mentally slow your thinking down and try to do the different things in phases

Phase 1: car position am I in an optimal position to take a fast line through the corner? Move if you can to that position

Phase 2: braking, do I have a good marker for this corner? If I do and consistently can start braking there then try to brake a fraction earlier but less hard initially, coming off the brakes the more you start to turn in.

Phase 3: mid corner speed, are you holding a steady line, if yes then maintain that speed/coast until you see the exit opening up

Phase 4: when the track is starting top open in front of you do the reverse of the braking phase. Start to unwind the steering and feed the power in smoothly trying to feel and listed to the slightest bit of over reving, this is the wheels losing traction. Good exits are where you get continuous smooth revving up to the next gear.

Do some slower laps than you'd normally try to do practicing braking earlier to get a better line and steering angle for the exit.

Practice and do some circuit experiences if you haven't.

With regards to contact with other cars, this usually is about position and patience. The AI has very low avoidance logic and very quick counter steering reactions so you have to drive where you avoid them like the plague.

You'll find you'll make less contact generally if you pick your moments to pass rather than attacking every corner.

There is some misunderstanding.
I do not talk about prevention. I talk about moments where you lost grip for some reason. What to do THEN to minimise losses? To return to the race asap?

I'm not sure there is a lot to do on this, come off the power to try and either regain control and gently come back on to the track remembering dirty tires etc

Or to try and angle any barrier impacts to keep pointing the right way, this may mean coming of the brakes etc.

You can map reverse to a face button which might be slightly quicker than going down through the gears.

Other wise prevention is the best tip so try not to put yourself in these positions, if someone is trying to pass and they are aggressive just let them through. As you rightly say it would be better to finish 1 place lower than last.

Lift off, counter steer in the direction of travel, quickly and stay flexible...
Easier said than done, sometimes some gas to be applied during this process, in short burst but at the appropriate moment...

Verstappen, if you are around here, could you please share your tips Max ?
