How to Beat the NASCAR Event Without Much Trouble

I posted this as a reply to another topic, but seeing as the info could get lost after others replied in such a big thread, I decided to make it its own topic.

I don't know if car matters, but I used the Lowe's Jimmy Johnson Impala. I really doubt that it matters since NASCAR cars are very similar, but feel free to experiment on your own.

As far as I know this ONLY works for the NASCAR races and I wouldn't recommend it for other types, but hell, it might actually work, so who knows? I figured out a strategy that works for these irritating races after losing my temper with them initially. Same HP cars, with a fool at the wheel, yeah, that's fun. :P

Step 1: Pick a driver who is in a good mood. (He has the diagonal up arrow next to his icon.)
Step 2: Tune the car up one notch to increase the top speed. (I did nothing else to the car, except oil change before the series.)
Step 3: During the countdown, tell the driver to Pace Up.
Step 4. Every time the timer runs out, tell the driver to Pace Up, even when he's maxed.
Step 5: Watch your driver fail miserably, but keep hitting Pace Up.
Step 6: Repeat Step 5.
Step 7: Watch as your BOB suddenly starts passing cars, like he's supposed to. Continue to Pace Up.
Step 8: Watch as BOB manages to get up to 4th place. Continue to Pace Up.
Step 9: Watch as BOB actually starts driving well and passes the other 3 cars.

At this point BOB will be in 1st and will actually win the race with a bit of a lead. He may initially lose the lead after gaining 1st, but will get back into 1st again. On the tracks with many curves, the non-oval tracks, you may wish to let him calm down a bit after he's gained the lead, just to be on the safe side, but I had no problems with him wiping out or driving erratically. I pushed him all the way through Laguna Seca.

I was able to actually get past the slipstream/draft zone for the oval tracks with this method, meaning that they could never catch up to me again.

I don't know why this works for the NASCAR races, but I was able to get first place in all 5 of the races without much trouble. It's almost like BOB doesn't hear you for about 5 minutes and then suddenly wakes up and says, "Ohhhh, you want me to win? No problem!" In other words, BOB will be completely craptastically for roughly half the race and then suddenly be able to drive like he should have done from the start.

Side note: Overtake will not work, I tried it and it seems to be "heard" by BOB as one of three things:

1. Slow down to let the 3 cars behind you pass by.
2. Ram into the back of the car in front of you as hard as you can.
3. Go around the car in front of you, and when you have the lead, slow down for no reason.

Let me know how this works out for you. I'm hoping that it will work for everyone the same way that it worked for me.

To help other users, it would be helpful to convey what level your Bob was at and where in the personality bar he is located, i.e full hot, 3/4 position, middle, 1/4 position or zero (super cold bob).

Also I think step 1 is not needed. Whether the arrow is up, down or straight, it has no effect on lap times or his ability to win a race.

All of my drivers are at exactly half or just slightly into the hot side of things. Although it was awhile ago that I did these races, I seem to remember them being in the level 26-30 range at the time.

I agree with you on the mood not being a factor. I'm pretty much certain, probably 99.3% that it has nothing to do with it. However, since the Bobs are kinda flaky, I thought I would included that bit, just in case it added that "little something" to the mix.

Many of my Bobs are under-trained, meaning that I didn't, for the most part, sit there and tell them how to drive. I generally gave them the most overpowered car that was allowed in the race, most of the time the Red Bull Ridiculous-Mobile.

I also put brand new Bobs in races that allowed multiple Bobs and leveled them up faster than they should have "normally". Another GTP member has told me that this results in Bobs that are not as good at driving as ones who were leveled up properly.

That said, I didn't seem to have any problems winning the Nascar events with the above strategy. It was, however, the only way that I was able to do it. Any other method seemed to result in random losses, which lost the overall Gold trophy for the series.

The method above resulted in first place wins for every single race. I was also able to repeat the series with the same results.
