How to cope with the wait?

I’m 37 next month and although I’m dying for this game to come out as much as the next guy and moan about it a lot (although I’ve chilled recently) I lead such a busy life that the time literally flies buy. I’m married with a 3 year old son, am in full time employment and weeks go by like days -a sign of getting old I’m told.

Plus I’m in a fortunate position to have the funds to buy and play other games and do other stuff to help pass the time whilst we wait for the release.

When the game does come out I’ll be able to grab an hour here and there on it and perhaps some more time late on a Saturday night, I won’t live on the game as the younger people can and will do when it comes out, so to sum up - GT is not a big part of my life.

My heart goes out though to the younger members of this forum who are waiting for this game to be released, reason being……………………

When I was about 9 or 10 I saw this game in our local supermarket and lusted over it.

About a month after seeing this game it was my birthday and leading up to it every Saturday whilst out shopping with my mum I would run over to this toy and just stare at the box imagining how good this game must be to play.

On the morning on my birthday I opened up all my birthday cards and I had enough money to buy the game so off we went to the supermarket to buy the game.

When we got to the supermarket they were out of stock of the game and I was as you can imagine absolutely gutted. We spoke to the store manger who said it will be in stock in a few days time.

This was before everybody had a mobile phone, the internet etc so the manger suggested I popped in everyday to see if it had arrived.

So I did this everyday and it probably came in to stock I think about 2 weeks after but to a 9 year old boy this felt like years. I remember how disappointed I was each time I visited the store only to be told – try again tomorrow or the next day – constant high’s of expectations walking to the store followed by crushing disappointment and the long walk back home.

I remember when I was at school that a day seemed to last forever!!

When I used to save my money to by ‘CAR’ magazine I would read the magazine in one day and it seemed another year had passed until the next monthly issue arrived in the shop, nowadays the next months issues arrives before I’ve even had change to read last months and last months only felt like it got delivered last week!!

Anyway the game came into stock and I played on it for hours and hours - I imagined was in that little car I was steering blasting down the country lanes – it was magical!

So for all you younger people the above is why I’m feeling your pain, Gran Turismo must be a dream for you to play so you can imagine you are really driving a car and living out your high octane petrol head fantasies.

Its all right for use oldies who can pick up our car keys and just go outside and go for a real drive, so for those who are not old enough yet GT must be a god send.

I think when we read that KY said the game is ready and can be released at any time and now read that it could now be released by ‘fall’ its really disappointing and I guess must be gut wrenchingly awful for the younger people on here when Gran Tursimo is very much a very big part of their life.

Let’s hope Sony & PD do the right thing and bring the game out sooner rather than later.

LOLL is this thread for the sad cases??

How do I deal with the wait?

Ok,

I work, got a house, got a fiancée, got friends and always go out on weekends. That's how I cope with it :)

something a lot of you people will never enjoy lol. :P

Speak for yourself Craste. I'm 40 and I'm still as impatient as I was when I was 10. :(

It's not just with Video games, tho. If GT5 was a hot 20 year old babe I'd want her in my bedroom now, not in 6months time. Or a movie I'd been looking forward to. Or even just a new pair of shoes. Screw waiting. When you get to our age, life's to short to wait.

Also - steer-n-go totally pwnt!

@ Craste:

Post of the decade...so far ;)

I'm in a very similar position so whilst I'm looking forward to GT5 I know the time will fly by. I actually had one of those steer and go's but I remember it looking slightly different, after a bit of searching I think it was this

My most memorable and pained wait was when I saved up for a whole year at 8 years old for my first proper radio controlled car, The Tamiya Falcon. Not the most popular at the time but I've always gone for the underdog

Bearing in mind it came as a box of parts that took you weeks to put together yourself it really taught me the value of possessions and was my pride and joy. The day it got ran over by a car when the radio equipment jammed was a very dark day indeed :(

I actually brought a steer n go off e-bay a year ago to re-live my child hood again - and wow - it looks so ****e now LOL

Its boxed as good as new.

I bet that cost you a few quid off ebay. It makes me cringe when I see the price on ebay of all my old toys I threw away.

Our childhood heroes are often best left in the past but there were a few things that stood the test of time, my Tamiya Falcon would not be one of them! It was a heavy ugly hunk of s*#t then and it would be a complete disappointment now.

Did anyone else start their driving careers with radio controlled cars? I’ve been looking at the current cars you can get now and they look pretty awesome, I’m seriously considering getting one but don’t think I could pass it off as a present for my 2 year old son! It could be a good way of coping with the wait ;)

On a serious note...

Someone else mentioned rFactor, and here is why. If you have a PC and a wheel (Driving Force GT works, just d/l Logitech Gaming Software v5.08 and install), then go download rFactor from the website and pay the £25 ($40) fee for a product key. There are so many free mods for rFactor, cars and tracks (actual and fantasy) that we all keep hoping to see in GT:

Great tip thanks allot 👍 This game is awesome. With some Tracks and new cars for free its a great training until GT5 comes out. They have all the classic GT Tracks:drool:

Luckily i havnt got a ps3 yet and im getting one in a month so i will be playing gt5p for the first time which with a g27 should keep me going for a bit.:)
Plus just bought f1ce in preperation for when i get the ps3 as its so hard to find.
Its jst sitting under the tv staring at me:(

MW2 and iRacing for me, both great ways to bide your time till GT5. Just hauled an old PC out of the closet to try iRacing last week and I love it. Not cheap, but that keeps out the rifraff. Crummy graphics, great physics, and a great racing simulation.

From the looks of these online screens today it shouldn't be too hard to say goodbye to iRacing's online structure and cancel the subscription.
