How to iLINK Battle in GT3? Can't get it to work, HELP!

I did a search but didn't find the answer.

I have 2 versions of GT3 w/2 card saves, one in each machine. One box is the old fatty with the external attachment on back, the other is a slimline.

Both machines are hooked together with a cable. (Tried both types of Cat5 cables - Crossover & straight through)

Both machines say "Console ID 1"

Neither machine works when hitting "Broadcast" but work (not together) in "Compete" mode.

I didn't see any options for changing the console ID.

Please HELP!

Thanks

Problem is... to use iLink you need to use iLink. You're using network cabling.

You need two FAT machines with iLink ports in the front (beware - some newer fat PS2s don't have an iLink port), two iLink cables and an iLink hub.

Thanks Famine, I remember seeing you in the 200pt per race 100,000 challenge areas.

Did a quick search on e-bay but no iLINK hub. Is that the correct name?

Anyone have a link to someplace that sells one?

Do you use a regular cat5 cables or crossovers?

Last question. Is iLINK specific to GT3 or are there other games that can link this way?

Looking forward to getting this cleared up, 50 questions...

It is.

Neither - you use iLink cables, which is why you need PS2s with iLink ports (in the front blue panel, by the USBs)

iLink is a connection format. I'm sure other games used it, but I couldn't tell you what they are.

i Link was a good idea but the fact you needed 2 of everything made it kind of fail which is why Sony discontinued it, I only know GT3 supported it, one of my PS2's has it and the other much later model doesn't so no i Link battles for me :indiff:,

It would be interesting to see how the i Link system performed compared to ethernet... I wonder how much, if any, lag there would be or any judderyness!.... it seems like no one ever really used it...

What was that shooty game we played at Wycombe? The one where you shot me in the head. That used iLink.

Oh yes... The one where a n00b couldn't use a sniper rif... oh. :D

Err... Was it Timesplitters 2?

Totally off topic, but this appears to be a common theme from the GT Party stories. First it's shooting daan in the head with a light gun, then it's actually hitting Mark T in the head with an Air Hockey puck.
If Famine arrives at UKGTP9 with any kind of bullet/missile/rocket launcher type apparatus: Run away.
Quickly! :scared:

Back on topic. @ waldoslack I had an iLink hub & 3 cables lying around somewhere, once upon a time, I haven't seen them since we moved though, but I'll have a rummage around for them and let you know if I can find them.
