Hi

My computer has been getting blue screens for a while now, i replaced the Graphics card and ran Memtest, all tests resulted with no errors. I wanted to make sure i cover all areas, so i also reformatted the computer, re-installed all drivers and the blue screens are still there, so definitely not a software problem.

Now i want to test the Hard drive just to cover all bases, I have a Maxtor 500GB SATA hard drive and have come accross Seatools, has anyone used this program before? and are there any others you would recommend?

Thanks 👍

Use speedfan to check the smart data. Also it's a maxtor drive. Pretty well known for having bad drives.

Seatools only works with Seagate Drives.

What blue screen code is it giving you?

Under technical information it says "*** STOP: xxxxxxxxxx"

What is the code it is displaying?

I've been using BlueScreenView to view the BSOD's, here is a screenhost which lists the latest BSOD's; hope this helps.

They all seem to be happening when i'm either playing a game or on the internet. Thanks 👍

You are running XP?

I'm leaning towards BIOS or Windows sys files corruption.

But, so I don't fill your thread with hyperlinks... Just Google "STOP Error 0x00000XXX" for every code you see. Go to the, primarily, first link which is a Microsoft support link and they will walk you through the steps.

Also, have you reformatted the entire drive? Meaning you re-installed Windows and no partition was left unformatted? You may have a bug in your Windows OS sys files that is either corrupted or compromised.

Run a virus scanner on any data you wish to keep, back it up, then write over your hard drive a few times, format it, and reinstall Windows.

You can also run scan reg to check your registry files.

I do not believe it is hardware related but it very well could be. Have you attempted booting up from a secondary hard drive?

Sorry I keep editing lol.

Nope running windows 7 64bit, my brother reformatted the hard drive, he removed the partition and re-installed windows 7. He did copy files back over, so i will do a virus check on these files.

Don't have a 2nd hard drive, no problem about editing, the more help the better :D

Thanks for your help :)👍

Few simple ways.

1: A S.M.A.R.T data viewer crystaldisk info is a nice one.
2: Run a CHKDSK X: /f /r /b
The chkdsk will check for any bad sectors and tell you.

If the drive is still under warranty then seagate will want the Seatools diagnostic code.

What video card drivers are you using? Your getting a lot of different bsods. Usually most people see the same one over and over.

The Hard drive is not under warranty. I currently have a Nvidia GTX 560ti, previously i had an XFX ATI 4890, with which i used to receive HIDCLASS.sys BSOD's, but they have since stopped.
