sorry guys for missing the race last night! me and my daughters went out to fill their bags with goodies last night.

It sounds like you had a great time!

I've channeled my inner Clarkson and have done a write-up on last night. But it would be better with photos, so I must take some first!

The event overall was awesome, I had a blast. Definitely more too gear events in the future, even if the track is gone!

If the Ascari Race Resort is in the game, it has a skid pad and is pretty much like a good test track.

all i know is that they are celebrating GT6 Launch there, so there is a possibility of that showing up

In the news article, it says that PD took like 86,000 photos and scanned the track, so I'm pretty sure it will be in.

Tonight on Top Gear: jaydoc gives out some candy...

Roy has an accident...

Derp wears a safety vest...

and Randy makes dirty faces at a Scion...

Hello and a Welcome to a Top Gear Special.
Large Image.jpg

Tonight, we see who can buy the best 4 door car for under $16,500. Using various tests and scientific experiments that include maths, we find out which is best.

Jaydoc, as always, eager to start shows up first, and it looks like he brought a pixelated Mazda2. He must feel lucky.
The Top Gear Test Track_9.jpg

Derp shows up next, and it looks as if he's put some thought into this, with his blue Nissan March. He's fitted yellow spoked wheels to it, I think he thinks it's a race car.
The Top Gear Test Track.jpg

Next to arrive is Roy, and he seems to have purchased a color shifting toaster, err, I mean Toyota bB. Bold choice.
The Top Gear Test Track_3.jpg

Last to arrive was Randy, and we really can't tell what he's driving, because it's painted Orange Chrome and looking at it burns our retinas.
The Top Gear Test Track_2.jpg

Ah, the first challenge has arrived. Jay Kay, from Jamiroquai, (this bloke) set a time of 1:45.830. You'll get 10 points for every second you can get around the top gear test track faster than his time, and lose a point for every second slower.

First up is Roy, setting an impressive time of 1:44.6, only getting a little off track in the second to last corner. Not bad for a toaster, err Toyota bB.
The Top Gear Test Track_6.jpg

Derp runs next and makes an impressive go, keeps it on the track and manages a1:42.191. Those yellow wheels must be adding to the horsepowers.

Randy runs next, and his car does some things we think are witchcraft, and gets a 1:41.925 even considering a major off course in the second to last turn and through Gambon. We are going to need to resod.

But not yet, the king of off road is up next, jaydoc. Impressed we all were to see him keep it in the lines, and on course, up until, you guessed it, second to last turn, killing what was left of the grass. He did manage a 1:41.960.

That gives 39 points to jaydoc and Randy, 36 Points to Derp, and 12 points to Roy.

For the next challenge, since these turtles can't stay out of the grass, let's make it a little more easy. A good old fashion drag race. Heading out to the end of the runway and lining up was easy enough, let's see what they can do.
The Top Gear Test Track_8.jpg

The cars launched from the line, and jaydoc and randy pulled away! Derp stayed close by, but unfortunately Roy was blinded by Randy's car and mis shifted.
The Top Gear Test Track_5.jpg

So 100 pts to Randy, 90 to jaydoc, 80 to Derp and 70 to Roy.

Since they were on the track already, they divised another race. 0 to 75 to 0, the shortest distance wins. And wouldn't you know it, the results were the same. 100 to randy, 90 to jaydoc, 80 to Derp, and poor Roy with another 70.

Another challenge, whoever has the most purple car wins. Roy! No that's not it...
Large Image-1.jpg

A 5 lap "dirty race" on the top gear track, heavy damage, strong penalty, false start check. Immediately off the line jaydoc and Derp start trading paint, and before turn 1 Derp has spun and both have damage.
The Top Gear Test Track_12.jpg The Top Gear Test Track_11.jpg

But, overall, we find out that even a dirty race is pretty clean (mostly) when turtles are running, and the results, jaydoc 100, randy 90, Derp 80 and Roy, yep, 70.
The Top Gear Test Track_13.jpg

Let's head back to the studio!

Ok, so given the 16500 budget, we will now get .1 pt per 1 credit under budget. Jaydoc starts us off, he spent 14500, and grabs 200 pts, not bad! Randy us next with a budget busting 16300, leaving him with only 20 pts, someone's got a frowny face... Derp, wow, he spent only 10950 on his March, good deal, walking away with 555 pts! And lastly, is Roy. How much did that Xb set you back? What, only 15780, that's not too bad... So 72 pts for Roy.

After the races, since an affordable car is typically a first car, each of the racers had to sell their car for the final challenge. Randy, with the newest car, glowing like the sun, sold for 4890, netting him 489 pts. Roy's Scion was next to sell, at an impressive 4734, so 473 pts to Roy. Jaydoc sold his ghostly Mazda for 4350, getting 435pts. And Derp got 3285 for his March, I think the yellow wheels hindered his sale potential...

So that concludes our tests, bringing us to the best affordable 4 door car in GT5. It may not be the fastest, or have the best brakes, or best colored wheels, but it is cheap, and we like cheap.

Some say that "all your derps belong to him",
jeremy-clarkson.jpg

and that the United States Government, in America, paid him to spellcheck the Affordable Care Act. All we know, is that he's not the Stig, but the Stigs Canadian Cousin!

Congrats BionicDerp in your Nissan March!

Hope you all enjoyed this post! Please don't get offended by my inner Clarkson, I personally like the Toyota bB:lol:

Great job jay:tup:

I laughed the whole time I read it. My wife got a real kick out of the "Randy's car was so bright it burnt our retinas" part. Said she's glad to know other people give me a hard time too.

Thanks to everyone that came. It was a night to remember.

Hilarious jay*clarkson! Im surprised you could get that much for the bB, with its Flintstone brakes and steam powered engine. I never could get out of third gear even at the Ring! Somebody had to be Capt. Slow! Thanks again for an awesome night! Long live Top Gear & TRL!

Guys... My snake is ready. It's broken in, it's tuned beautifully, and it just looks cool. Can't wait to let it rip on the track.

Same here Otaku. My ford is running great. And sounds awesome. I just wish I was able to accelerate more thru some of the turns, not have to roll all the way to the apex. But it is pretty fast.

Are 1.19's possible with these wonderful cars this week?

Good Morning All!
I'm glad some of us are getting ready! My car looks great, is fully tuned, but is still DOG SLOW! I'm thinking I really messed up with my "out of the box" thinking this go round. Oh yeah, and it makes the most annoying sound at high speed, I hope my wife isn't drinking any wine while I race, it's sure to crack a glass! But it looks cool, and sometimes, that's what matters most, isn't it ?

Anyhow, I've discussed this with RacingOtaku86 already, and he will be hosting the event for me on this Thursday. I've got to go out of town on business, and will not be returning in time to start the races. Don't forget, we will also be using the brand new, HST_TrackDays Lounge, everyone should have received a PSN Friend Request. If not, please let me know and I'll send it out.

Finally, do we have any racers from the St Louis area? I'm pretty sure we don't, but I'll have some free time up there in between wrap demos if anyone wanted to grab lunch or something.

Hi j*d I've always had issues with the sound on most of the cars. It seems the only fix is to turn the treble down a little and the bass way up. It works for most of the hi pitched whiney cars but not all. I sent you an FR please accept :guilty: I haven't been to St. Louis in such a long time that arch is really something to marvel at in person. If your ever in SoCal I'd love to break bread with you. NOTE: I was trying to go to the HST_TrackDays lounge to practice with my Shelby but couldn't find the user under "COMMUNITY", have you created a GT5 game save for that profile?

I don't need to remind you guys if you violate the rules...

You'll make this girl angry. Very angry. You don't want that. Well, angrier than she is now. You STILL don't want that.

J/K, it'll be fine.

Just took some laps in a lazily tuned C12. With a fever. I'm setting mid 1:24's, but if I was on my A game, I think I could manage mid 1:23's. The car's really stable. Might spin the tires on exits, but it never goes sideways. Braking zones can be hard to judge. Beached it on the first turn more times than I'd like to admit.

Had braking zone problem myself at turn 1. It's almost like there's a bump in the track at the slight left hander heading to turn 1. Makes the car seem like it gets light.
I softened the springs, starting 2 points front and rear till problem wads gone. That helped me but I'm no tuning expert. Hope that helps.

Otaku that looks like my daughter when she loses to the AI at Motegi super speedway.:scary:

LOL. BUT, does she dress up in a penguin costume for a culture festival?

chiyo_chan_penguin_by_nickoking-d5vsr3y.png

OK, this stuff is probably better off in The General Anime Thread, but who cares? You guys are pretty well versed in the rules of the series, so it makes it easier for me and everyone else.

I can finally manage the corkscrew now that Fish showed me how to use the rumble strip and wall draft to slow my approach but that little hump is my Achilles heel. IMO MBOBB takes the best line on it. He uses the hump to accelerate down the hill from the inside to the far outside where he starts his turn from. It's tricky though if you don't enter the turn fast enough you get T-boned by the car behind you who quickens at that point because they are generally taking it tighter. I baby that entry way too much but going to the beach is even worse if you get my drift. (dbl pun intended LOL)

Thanks, Busted. It doesn't really need to be fixed. It just slips a little. It drives really well on worn tires. Kept 1:24's when they were all 1/2 gone.

Thanks for the tip randy, but I found that if you keep way left on the T1 apex, the bump doesn't affect the car as much. My springs are 11 front and 13 back (somewhat). My camber is a little high, but I can fix it later.
